I have been needing an external hard drive for ages now, the amount of music I have on my laptop as well as things for work that if my computer broke I'd lose in an instant. This Christmas I asked for one as it was about time I got a good sized one to hold everything and back it up, also the prices have come down on these so much that you can get a good amount of backup storage for a bargain price. I did the research on it before my mother bought me this and I had looked around but the design of this Samsung M3 as well as the price for 1 terabyte seemed too good and no others stood out for me compared to this one, it just had it all for me.
Now, this was one of the winning factors for me as the design looks great, it has a black wave effect texture on it which makes it look unique and the Samsung logo is embossed into the black plastic. It comes with a guide and a warranty as well as a USB cable and on this is the opening for the USB to click into. The dimensions of this hard drive are 11.2 x 8.2 x 2 cm and it weighs 150g so it is really light to hold which is nice and you know it is plugged in as a blue light will show on it and then it can easily be removed safely. The hard drive comes with no case so it is best to buy one to prevent it from getting scratched and some cases come with a pouch for the USB cable too.
SAMSUNG M3 1TB USB HARD DRIVE
So, to begin with my first worry when getting this was that I was using this on Windows but intending to buy a Mac and some customer comments I had read had spoken of issues with this working on my Mac. The guide does mention that this is compatible with Windows XP/Vista and 7 and for Macintosh it will work on Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later so I thought I'd test it out on my work computer an iMac first. Now, to use this you just need to plug it in and it should automatically install drivers and begin to work, it will shop up as SAMSUNG and then you can start to add files. On both Mac and Windows this worked perfectly, no problems and all files displayed accurately.
It will load up quickly when it goes into the computer, the blue light will show and you are ready to add files. This really is brilliant, I have added a lot of files, music and made sure to put them all into easy to read folders or this could get crowded. All files on here and I still have 913GB left it is amazing and 1TB is definitely the way to go as I doubt I'll ever fully fill this up but it is great to know I have so much space. It is really easy to delete files on this external hard drive and when you have finished just make sure to safely remove this device. If you don't remove with safety you run the risk of it corrupting or wiping the hard drive, it just isn't worth it.
The USB is easy to put into computers and the guide comes with some handling precautions to ensure safety. They state to always use the product on a flat surface, do not sit on the heavy object over the product and avoid blocking the vent at the bottom of the external hard drive as this could cause overheating inside. I have been using this regularly taking it in and out of computers now and so far it still works as fast as it always had, this is a reliable hard drive so far which is why I chose to invest in a well known brand like Samsung. They do larger sized hard drives but for most people I think 1TB will be suitable unless you are storing a lot of video files.
It is a great little device, easy to carry around with being small and lightweight, it isn't the thinnest of devices but this doesn't really bother me too much at all. It is great for anyone who has a lot of music or anyone with a computer related job that needs to back up things a lot of the time. I always feel things should be backed up as you never know when your computer might go and this just gives peace of mind really. It takes seconds to update and even transferring gigabytes it will only take a few minutes at most which is brilliant to me that it is so fast. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an external hard drive with adequate space.
You can buy this online, I got mine on Amazon's website where the 1TB model cost me £59.97 direct from them and it arrived quickly, the price fluctuates daily but this is reasonable to me.
The official Samsung website is http://www.samsung.com/uk/.
