      Very helpful

Great little hard drive, useful for carrying around extra media files if you travel alot.

I got this as a birthday present from my girlfriend due to the growing amount of space required by my two laptops for music, photos, videos and (legally) downloaded movies.

When i saw the size of it i was delighted, but was a bit worried about the fact that it had no fan. 500gb with no fan, i thought would mean it would be incredibly slow, crash alot, or get extremely too hot, meaning that it wouldnt last long. All of these scenarios were not the case. Toshiba claim that the deisng of it was based around a cclever heat dispersal design, not so sure myself as it just looks like a rectangle, much like any other hard drive would be. However, it never gets hot and the no fan means that it is completely silent.

And the fact that it is only powered by USB, definately does not make it slow, i consistently acheive speeds in excess of 15mb/s so my 20gb music collction was on there within a couple of minutes. So backing up is a breeze.

If your laptop does not ive it enough power, there is also the capability of plugging into 2 USB porrts too, im pressuming this is for older laptops as i have never had the needs for it even on my netbook!

So overall, this is a great little portable device, silent, quick, small, light, and cool. The only bad thing i can say about it is that the aluminium (i think) shell appears to dent easily, but you cant really complain if you drop it and it dents really.
