Advantages: Easy To Set Up, Reliable And Looks Nice

Disadvantages: None

Although my laptop has a fair amount of hard disk space, I prefer to store my music, movies & photos on external drives and up until recently I've got by on a couple of Western Digital Passports with 360gb each. However, I started to find that I completely filled one with movies and the other was getting on that way with my music. Worse still though... I wasn't backing any of this up.

So, I decided to invest in a two 1tb Western Digital My Books. Using one of them just for back up.

I chose Western Digital because of my previous positive experience with their passport drives and once again they have delivered on performance, reliability and in my opinion it looks pretty cool too, with it's glossy black exterior and bright blue light... very nice!

Set up is super easy, just plug and play. I didn't actually have to do anything apart from drag and drop data across. Which suits me fine! Not being a fully signed up member of the nerd herd does mean that I struggle at times with computer technology, but even I could handle this.

The unit powers up very quickly and the data transfer time seems quick from pc to drive. It is a lot slower from drive to drive but when I back up, I just leave overnight to do its thing.

Unlike the passport drives that can be powered from the pc USB hub, this unit is mains powered via the power cable provided.

In regard to size, it's 13.5 x 4.8 x 16.5 cm and although it's only the size of a substantial paperback book, I wouldn't say it's very portable. My two just sit on a shelf keeping each other company and looking cool.

I'm really impressed with this external hard drive and more than happy to recommend it. I paid £64.99 for mine but it's well worth shopping around for a bargain.

This drive is definitely compatable with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 operating systems.

I apologise if my review is a little short on technical data, but although I can't tell you how it works, I can assure you that it does the job it's intended for and it does that job well.

Thanks for reading.

Moon Out.
