I was over the moon to receive this as a Christmas present because we are emigrating in a few months time and I knew that we needed to back everything up before this point. I had specifically asked for a minimum 1TB sized external hard drive and aimed the request at my tech-savvy brother in law, knowing that he would know which one was the best for us. So, what we have is a 1TB Western Digital 'My Passport' which is surprisingly small and wonderfully simple to use. In the packaging (which was also pleasently simple to get in to - one of my pet hates is those godawful shrink wrapped plastic box things) was a small black box, about the size of one and half ... I needed a large external hard drive to store my movies and music aswell as for backing up my PC. The "Western digital My Passport 1TB" HDD was exactly what I was looking for. The first thing which stood out was the size of it. It is slightly larger than a bare 2.5" SATA drive, about the size of a fist, which is considerably smaller than my non portable WD external drive. I received this My Passport WD Hard Drive as a gift around 6 months ago. At first I wasn't sure that I would use it or need it since I already had another large Hard Drive that I used for Time Machine back ups on my MacBook Pro and general backing up of data. I soon realised though that the benefit of this Hard Drive is it's extremely portable! The unit itself is deceptively small in size for a hard drive with 1 TB of storage space. My previous hard drive is at least 4 or 5 times the size and has significantly less memory. The My Passport Essential is smaller than a CD case in breadth and width, though slightly thicker in depth. It is really extremely sleek ... Read the complete review

For years I've thought that I need to purchase an external hard drive to safey store all my music and hundreds of pictures taken over the years and for the easy transfer of files as I do alot of travelling around the country, but have never known which one, how big it needed to be or which brand would be best. A member of my family purchased a Western Digital hard drive a number of years ago however I felt it was too chunky for easy transport. While I was looking for the best hard drive for me this one stood out from the rest due to its size. It fits in the palm of your hand and is small enough to fit in my handbag! There is no power source required and ... Read the complete review
