Advantages: Portable, Lightweight, Slim, SmartWare backup application
Disadvantages: Micro USB cable, Flimsy casing
I loved my old 250GB hard-drive and have decided to get myself another WD hard-drive with bigger space (500GB). Personally, I liked the old version better, but this is... not bad. It serves its purpose of allowing you to backup large amount of data - in a stylish, lightweight and even slimmer portable device, with four small rubber fleets that keeps the drive in place.
I wasn't very satisfied with the plastic cover of this new model- the old model was a glossy, harder (more durable) plastic - which comes with its disadvantages (i.e: fingerprints on the cover), but this model looked like it's made with flimsier, thinner plastic but comes with a matt finish - bidding goodbye to fingerprints but now at risk for accidental scratches.
One of the main differences in this hard-drive is the SmartWare application, which is a backup facility that saves the backup files as images, taking up lesser space but you will have to have the SmartWare application in order to retrieve the files.
What bugged me the most was the plug and play - when I plugged in the hard-drive, a pop-up window will appear asking you to make a choice between opening the folder to view files or to run the SmartWare application, hence taking a longer time to access your files after plugging it in.
This model uses a micro USB plug - unlike the usual ones that we have and doesn't connect as sturdily - a change in position of the laptop or an accidental bump will cause the hard-drive to disconnect.
Summary: Backup large amount of data in a stylish, lightweight, slim and portable way
