Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Eye Make Up Remover
Advantages: Effectively removed my eye make-up,
Disadvantages: Very very oily residue left after use and packaging which leads to product wasteage.
Available only from Boots' stores, No. 7 Beautiful Skin Eye Make-up Remover costs £7.75 for a 100ml bottle. I consider this to be a "middle of the road" cost for an eye make-up remover as they tend to range from about £2.99 for a high street brand to £20+ for a premium skincare brand.
I have previously used No. 7 Eye Make-up Remover in it's previous incarnation as "Clean and Care" Eye Make-up Remover however I wasn't that impressed by the results it delivered. Boots' have re-formulated and re-packaged their No. 7 range and this is what led me to try the product again.
The product claims to be a "Dual action formula" and is designed to remove all types of eye make-up (including waterproof mascara). The information on the bottle states that it is hypoallergenic and opthamologist tested, this appealed to me as I wear contact lenses and I have found that some eye make-up removers don't completely remove the product and my eyes get irritated by flecks of left-over mascara on the contact lenses.
Bright blue in colour, the product is presented in a clear bottle with a white lid. Once opened, there is a 6 month shelf-life on the product. Two distinct layers are visible in the bottle- the "dual action" formula. These layers mix together when the product is shaken. On removing the lid, I was disappointed to see that rather than a pump or nozzle, there is merely a large hole to dispense the product. Generally, I prefer a pump type device to control how much product is used each time and prevent waste.
The product is used by shaking thoroughly to mix the layers and massaging the product onto the eye area with cotton wool. Once shaken, the product needs to be used immediately as it starts to split into layers again as soon as you put it down. The consistency of the product is very oily, which I know is standard for products designed to remove waterproof mascara. I would say however that this product is even oilier than most waterproof eye make-up removers I have previously used and I found this very off-putting. I had to wipe around the eye area with a clean cotton pad after I had used the product in order to remove the oily residue- it would be very difficult to take my contact lenses out had I not done this! I also feel that applying eye-creams would be very difficult unless the eye area was wiped after using the eye make-up remover.
In terms of effectiveness, the product did thoroughly remove all of my eye make-up. I didn't find that I had any flecks of mascara under the eye area and when I woke up in the morning I didn't have the dreaded "panda eyes" look. I felt that this effectiveness was partly due to the very oily nature of the product and also because of the large quantities I was using from being unable to control the amount of product coming out of the bottle.
All in all, although an effective eye make-up remover I have decided to poorly rate this product because it is very oily and the packaging is particularly wasteful. Boot's could improve the product by bringing back the pump device previously used (even then I don't think I would buy this product again).
Summary: Way too oily for me and represents poor value for money due to the amount of product dispensed.
