I like to look after my skin, in particular the area around my eyes as I think that this can age you faster than anywhere else.
What does the product do?
The product promises to combat the appearance of skin aging symptoms such as fine lines and wrinkles. It contains naturally moisturising ingredients such as Shea Butter and Chicory which hydrate and soften the skin and this prevents new wrinkles from forming. It revitalises the skin and helps to restore its elasticity which again helps to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. It also promises to smooth the skin and to give it a healthy radiance, reflecting the light to disguise fine lines. The cream is suitable for use on all skin types.
How do you use the product?
The product should be applied to skin which has been cleanses and dried. You need to dispense some of the cream, warm it on the fingers and then apply it both above and beneath the eye. It should be gently patted into the skin working from the inside out until it has been fully absorbed. You are advised to use this in the evenings which effectively makes this a night cream for the eye area.
Packaging and Price
The eye balm comes contained within a white plastic tube which has a screw top lid. When you remove the lid, you see the pointed end of the tube which allows you to control the amount of product that you dispense. The product will cost you around £29 for 20 ml and it can be bought from department stores with a Clarins stand and also from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product is white in colour and it is easily dispensed from the tube. It has a fresh and pleasant aroma which suits the product and is too subtle to cause offence. The texture of the product is lightweight and it is lighter than I expected a balm to be. It certainly isn't like a lip balm!
The product feels very comfortable on the skin. It is quite silky and it easy glides across the skin without any pulling or dragging of the delicate area. It is light and easily absorbed, and with minimum patting, the balm has been fully absorbed. It feels very hydrating and it relieves all feelings of tightness and dryness immediately. It doesn't irritate or sting my eyes, even when I apply it whilst wearing my contact lenses.
The cream doesn't feel greasy or heavy on my skin and it doesn't make me feel unclean. It doesn't leave any residue of the skin and other than a healthy sheen, you can't see that it has been applied. It definitely moisturises the skin which will help to prevent further wrinkles and the hydrating effects stick around for hours. I can't say that it has reduced the fine lines that I already have but maybe it will in time. It does leave my skin looking brighter, conditioned and healthier.
All in all, this is a very moisturising eye balm which leaves the skin feeling softer, smooth and hydrated. It is gentle on the skin and doesn't irritate or sting the eyes. It leaves my skin feeling brighter and conditioned. Although it hasn't reduced the appearance of my fine lines so far, I do feel like it will help to prevent further ones from appearing too soon.
"This age-fighting balm minimises the look of wrinkles, fine lines and crow's feet while protecting the vulnerable skin around eyes" "moisturises, revitalises and helps restore elasticity--smoothing the delicate skin on eyelids and eye contours." clarins.co.uk (product description)
Although only in my mid-twenties, I do worry about the soon-to-become inevitable appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially as I work in a harsh environment, which sucks hydration from my skin. I have early starts, long hours, and I do not want my skin to suffer because of this. I can honestly say that I do notice a difference when I don't use this product - my eyes look 'tighter' and almost as though the skin is overstretched, with those little lines underneath. When I use the product however, the delicate skin feels softer and much less tight. There is no soreness, and no 'pull' lines. The eye contours and lids are instantly hydrated - they not only feel, but also look healthier. There is no harsh scent which can sting the eyes, and the balm itself is very soft, which adds to the moisturising feel benefits of the product.
"So lightweight and refreshing, eye make-up goes on like a dream." clarins.co.uk (product description)
I choose to use this balm at night and the gel in the morning. This is my personal preference, and I feel it works well for me, so I do not always apply make-up after using it (only when on an evening out). When I do apply it though, I do find that make up does go on very well and the balm creates a lovely base for which to apply under eye concealer and also powder on the lids. The make-up does not slip, and I actually think the powder creases a little less. Lightweight this balm definitely is; it soaks into the eye area almost instantly, and there is no oily residue left. There is just a soft and comforted feeling around the eyes, and I always feel completely soothed after a long day.
I would definitely recommend this to anybody who was considering using it. You need to use very little product, and the bottle lasts a long time. The benefits are clear when using it, and even ignoring the physical benefits of the balm, just the feeling of relaxation and comfort after using it makes it worth trying. I would also recommend using the eye contour gel, and soothing eye contour mask, but that again is personal preference - I feel the combination of products improves the effects; gel (morning), balm (evening) and mask (morning, but can be evening too!).
I am always on the hunt for an eye balm/cream that actually does what it states on the tube. I have tried many different brands over the years and was given the Clarins Contour Eye Balm as a gift for my last birthday along with some other Clarins goodies!
I followed the instructions and applied it around the contour of my eye socket. My skin felt soft and I am convinced that it has made a difference to the fine lines around my eyes due to the moisturisation, which is light and non greasy. I keep mine in the fridge as I prefer to use any creams on my face, at a lower temperature, but am sure that this is not a requirement in order for this product to make a difference.
I rarely write reviews but felt that I should let people know that this actually works!
My friends and I are always comparing products and I have had no hesitation in recommending this particular one. Now they are all trying it too !
