When looking at eye care products I normally won't even bother to try it out if it doesn't make any claims about getting rid of dark circles as this is my main concern in that area. I juggle part time work, full time study and a placement job whilst still trying to take time out for myself and maintain a social life thus I have many late nights and early mornings. Fortunately I'm one of those people who can function perfectly well off of four or five hours sleep but unfortunately my eyes never look quite as awake as the rest of me and dark circles make appearances fairly often. When I had the opportunity to test out this eye cream at a Clinique counter in a Boots store I instantly fell in love with it but at that time I couldn't justify paying £28 for 10ml of eye cream.
This is one of those products where shopping around doesn't really get you anywhere as it is more or less the same price everywhere. You may find it slightly cheaper on the odd website no one has ever heard of before but by the time you've paid P&P costs the saving isn't even worth mentioning. So I started to save up my advantage points so I could purchase myself a tube from Boots. Before I'd collected up the required amount of points my wonderful best friend presented me with a tube for my birthday and so for the last five months I've had the pleasure of using this cream regularly and it really doesn't disappoint.
The eye cream is part of Clinique's 'Even Better' range and whilst I haven't tried anything else from this range myself I've heard nothing but good things about it. If this eye cream is anything to go by it appears that whilst these products may be a little pricy they're worth every single penny! Clinique states this cream will 'brighten the appearance of the entire eye area' whilst hydrating, brightening and 'refreshing tired-looking eyes'. It's suitable for all skin types and colours and, on paper, sounds like the perfect product for eyes to me.
The cream comes in a little white tube with silver screw cap. The usual bits and bobs can be found on this tube like the Clinique logo, product name and description. Unscrewing the lid reveals a round, slanted silver tip with a little hole in the middle which releases the cream. The applicator is quite unusual looking and, whilst I've used many eye creams with weird and wonderful applicator tips, I've yet to use another one with a similar design to Clinique's.
This silver metal applicator tip actually plays quite a large role in my reasons for loving this cream so much. Firstly, it's always cool but never uncomfortably cold. Applying the cool tip to my eyes in the morning really does make them feel and look very refreshed and just more awake and alert in general. The round, slanted flat surface, about a cm wide and long, makes applying the cream really quick and easy too. The shape of the tip means all you have to do is glide the applicator across the eye area and you're done. No bizarre hand movements and no extra finger rubbing to make sure everything has been absorbed either!
The cream itself looks rather a lot like concealer. It's has a similar consistency and is a flesh colour rather than your usual white eye cream colour. Whilst the colour of the cream is what I would describe as 'olive' it adapts to the colour of the skin it is applied to so your eye area doesn't look paler or darker than the rest of your face. I'm very pale, a foundation the same colour as this cream would be far too dark for me but the cream blends in perfectly, easily and quickly making my eye area look natural.
The results this cream gives are just as lovely as the application. As mentioned, the cream blends in to my skin effortlessly. The tint in the cream completely covers my dark circles in a matter of seconds and whilst they are invisible whilst wearing this cream it doesn't look like I've applied any beauty product to cover and conceal them. Not only do my dark circles vanish but the skin around my eye just looks brighter, very alert and awake. The cream is also very moisturising and hydrating meaning my eyes don't only look better but they feel better too. With this cream I have soft, supple, bright and even toned eyes all with very little effort on my part. The difference in my eye area before and after applying this cream is instantly obvious.
In regards to long term results the cream is once again pleasing. The mentioned results of the eye cream last all day, my dark circles don't appear again by early afternoon nor does my skin start to dull or feel any less hydrated. But what pleases me most about this cream is I have definitely seen an improvement in the overall condition of my eye area since I've been using it. When I received this cream back in November my eyes were constantly puffy with looming dark bags under them. I sometimes felt like my eyes looked more like they belonged to a forty year old than a twenty year old and I'd spend ages in front of a mirror each morning trying to make them look presentable in public! Now days this isn't the case. Whilst I won't pretend all my eye worries have vanished they have at least significantly been reduced and now, rather than spending ten minutes applying twenty different products to them to 'wake them up' I simply glide this cream over them and in a matter of seconds I feel good enough to leave the house.
If the skin around your eyes is a problem for you then I really can't recommend this cream enough. It's just perfect and has had massively pleasing results on my eye area. At £28 it isn't the cheapest eye cream available but then it does last a long time, I'd say I'm only half way through my tube despite using it near enough daily for the last five months. With this is mind I do think it's affordable what with only needing to buy it very occasionally and it is completely worth its price in my opinion.
An eye cream which sticks to its promises, hydrates even my dry skin, is safe on my very sensitive skin and makes my eyes look as youthful as they should deserves nothing less than five stars!
