A couple of months ago I received a sample of L'oreal Rivitalift Double Lifting Eye Contour cream throught the post. Now, I may only be 27 but I am quite aware of fine lines and the start of wrinkles appearing in this area. My Mum has always taught me that using a cream from a young age (late teens/early twenties) stops wrinkles from appearing quite so quickly, but I've been a bit rubbish of late and hadn't been regularly applying an eye cream.
As the lines had now become visable, and my lids had started to droop (I really looked like I'd not had any sleep for months!) and I wasn't just looking for any old eye cream, I decided that I needed something that would help plump out or smooth the laughter lines AND stop any more from developing. This product sounded ideal as it boasts a moisturising anti-wrinkle cream and an intensive re-tautening gel.
~ What the cream is supposed to do ~
The box states:
Moisturising Anti-wrinkle cream - The cream, enriched with pro-retinol A forte, a known anti-wrinkle ingredient, and with stimulating caffeine, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and helps to reduce the appearance of bags under the eye.
Intensive Re-tautening gel - The re-tautening gel, enriched with Latexl, forms a flexible and resistant film on the skin to retauten and visibly "lift" the appearance of the upper eyelid.
Well... I never believe what I read on the box (the sample I received first is the only reason I went on to buy this product as I had seen the results for myself!) hence me deciding to write this review to tell you all how great it really is!!!
~ Using the product ~
The cream comes in a tall, thin container, with a push down dispenser. The container is clear(ish) and you can see two tubes on the inside, a red one (the gel) and a white one (the cream). Unfortunately, I think these are coloured tubes and its not the actual product so you can't see how much is remaining. At least, I've been using it for 3 weeks now and there is no sign of any having been gone, which I am sure there would be by now.
To dispense the cream, you simply push down the dispenser and the cream comes out... just be careful as I find there is way too much dispensed if you push it down fully. I find about half way is more than enough for both eyes. I get the cream on one finger, half of it is a red gel and the other half is the cream. I take half (gel and cream) with another finger and apply to my upper eyelid, smoothing it across and outwards, then what remains on my finger, I apply to underneath my eyes and across to the outer corners. I then apply to the other eye and leave for a few minutes to dry. I don't pat or rub in the cream any more than necessary as I think it would take away the effect of the gel.
Within a few minutes you can easily apply makeup over the top, providing that you haven't used too much otherwise you may be waiting a while for it to soak in!!
It is recommended that you apply the cream both in the morning, on thoroughly cleansed skin, then again in the evening. I have only been using the cream once a day as I am still quite young, but for more mature skin it may be better to apply more often than I do. The cream does have a scent, which is quite hard to describe but I would say it is rather pleasant, a bit like sun tan lotion although I have only noticed it by smelling it to do this review. You cannot smell the cream once it's applied.
~ So, does it work? ~
You will have guessed by now that the easy answer to this question is yes, it does work. I am very impressed. After the first time I applied the cream, I noticed an immediate effect. The lines at the outer corners of my eyes seemed plumped up. They were not anywhere near as noticeable as they were before I applied the cream. The fine lines that run under my eyes were still there, but less noticeable again, although not so amazingly. I keep getting on at the husband to pay for me to have an upper eyelift as I feel my eyes look heavy and tired, and not like they should for someone my age but after I used this product, I decided that it could hold off for a few more years yet. My eyes looked less heavy and younger. I still seemed to have a bit of a baggy top lid, if you know what I mean, but it was improved. It was ok again!! I think it's the best result I'm ever going to get without having to go through surgery and two black eyes first!
I presume all the effects I have spoke about so far are due to the re-tautening gel. After applying my eyes feel slightly streched. It's a nice feeling, like I've had a little lift. So does the anti-aging cream work? Well, that I am not sure of yet. I think using any type of cream helps to delay the aging process. When I have taken off my makeup at the end of the day, my eyes still look refreshed, just not quite so noticeably as they did when I'd first applied the cream, so I'd like to think that the cream is having some effect too.
After using the sample up over the course of about a week, I didn't have chance to go and buy a bottle so went without for a while. I noticed a really big difference and I find that this is often the best way to find out if something is working or not. You dont tend to notice as much if a cream is working over a space of time, but stop using it and you will soon notice if it did! I rushed out to my local Boots and bought a bottle, paying much more than I would have got it for online, but I was desperate!!!
~ Price and availability~
This cream is widely available both in the shops and online. I bought my bottle as I mentioned from my local Boots store. It cost me £14.99 for what looked like quite a good sized bottle, but check the packaging and you will see that it's only got 15ml inside! As eye creams go, this is a fairly good size though as you don't use much at a time and I expect my bottle to last a good few months yet. I have had a quick look on the internet and found this product available a lot cheaper on Ebay and Amazon so would recommend you have a quick look there otherwise wait for in to go on offer in store, as places like Boots have offers on these sort of products regularly. I don't mind the fact that I paid £15 though as I feel it is well worth it for the results I'm getting and its a lot cheaper than surgery!
~ Would I recommend? ~
Obviously I would recommend this eye cream. In fact, I have already recommended it to many people I know, young and old. When I told one of my friends about it just over a week ago, she managed to get a sample online, but this seems to have now been replaced with another product, so you will just have to take my word for it! I know I am only 27, so people with more mature skin may be wondering if it will work for them. If this is the case for you, I would say to give it a try. If it worked for me as dramatically as it did, I am sure that it will work on more mature skin too, although expecting to look 21 again is probably a bit much to ask for although it would be nice, eh?!
Also worth noting that I made my husband try it out (I will get him applying cream regularly if it kills me, he thinks its "girly"... I think it's taking care of yourself!) and a couple of days later a colleague (female) asked if there was something different about his eyes. Coincidence do you think? And his eyes need quite a bit of help if you ask me!! He is in his mid thirties and quite a heavy smoker who has never used any sort of creams on his face, so I would think that shows the effects it can have. Also it proves that its not just for women!
