This is my third review of the Mama Mio range after initially being given a free trial of three products including the eye serum Eye Know. I must admit this is the product out of the three that I like the least.
What does the product do?
The product is a moisturising eye serum that is meant to reduce dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. It contains 14 powerful actives including peptides and antioxidants and is meant to make you look "bright eyed and bushy tailed"
How do you use the product?
The product is a clear gel that is smoothed around the whole eye area. You are then meant to massage it around the eye area 10 times in each direction with your ring finger. I always find this a bit time consuming so don't often bother!
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a small pump. I am still using the trial version which came in a tiny 5 ml pump and this might be why I am having some issues with the product. You can purchase it both online and in retailers such as Debenhams and House of Fraser. The price is expensive at £27.50 for 15ml
I find that with the trial version when I pump the product far too much comes out and I am left with serum that I do not need (and am not able to put it back into the pump again so have to waste) This might just be a problem with the miniature pump used for the trial products. On using the serum I have found it to be quite sticky which I also don't like (although this might be because I am using too much) and it leaves a bit of a residue on my skin and does not sink in properly. I have quite dark circles under my eyes and have not noticed any difference when using this product (although to be fair I have never found a product that can really help with these!)
I love the Mama Mio range but find this eye serem too heavy and disappointing.

This is the third and final product I received as part of a ten day trial from Mama Mio. They pride themselves on producing all natural products that provide great results without harsh chemicals. Their range is not tested on animals, and promises to include everything your skin could need to be at its healthiest. With four children as you would expect it is not often I get a full night's sleep. I have to admit out of the three products I received from Mama Mio to try this was the one I was most looking forward too.
It promises to help with a range of things, from puffiness to lightening bags under the eyes, helping with wrinkles and generally leave your eyes looking brighter. It also promises to provide 24 hour moisturising, and to tighten the eye area for a wide awake look. It comes in an easy to dispense pump action bottle that makes it very easy to use. All of this sounds promising enough but it also claims to give you eyes like you have slept for 8 hours in 60 seconds! I received a 5ml bottle for my test, but for the £27 retail price you will receive the larger 15ml bottle.
Applying and results
To use you only need one pump of the eye serum. Compared to the other products I received the amount of the eye serum that comes out seems a lot. It is a gel like consistency and is clear in colour, and I have to admit it feels a little sticky to touch. You simply half this small blob of serum on to each pointing finger. Then work the serum into your eyes running clockwise over the top lids, and then back under the bottom of your eyes. They suggest to do this twenty times which seems a lot as then you have to rub anti clockwise for another 20 times. I have to admit sometimes if I am in a rush I do not do the full 40 full circles of the eyes, but for best results this is what is suggested.
Almost from the first circle of my eyes they feel refreshed and I feel a little more awake. I tend to use this is the morning as I find it is great for giving me a little wake up boost. My eyes did feel slightly more moisturised after using this, but no more than when I use a good moisturiser. ( like their mighty moisturiser from the same range)I have to admit my eyes felt less puffy to what they would usually at that time in the morning so I was impressed. While it promises to tighten the eye are I didn't feel like this helped tighten my skin at all. In my early twenties I am not yet looking into preventing wrinkles or trying to make lines less defined, but in no way did I feel it had any effect in this area anyway.
I will say appearance wise my eyes look no different. I have been using this for over two months now and to be honest there is no lightening, tightening or anything else. My eyes still look puffy despite feeling better, and I just found that the results were a little poor in this area. It is great at waking me up a little and helping me feel more refreshed, but they promise to provide 8 hours sleep in 60 seconds. While I never expected this to be true, after all this time I would have hoped for some sort of difference in appearance. It could just be that the bags under my eyes are becoming worse, as I am eight months pregnant and finding it more difficult to sleep, but in all honesty I am not sure I am getting any less sleep than I did previously with a teething little one. The moisturising properties are great. I find that I get dry areas around my eyes especially after using concelaers, but this has left my skin feeling softer and more hydrated.
While they claim this is a fragrance free product there is a slight 'planty' smell to it. This disappears almost instantly once it is absorbed into your skin, but it is apparent when you first apply it. I find that after I have completed the application process my eyes feel a little sticky. Not heavy or irritating, but enough that I have to leave it a good ten minutes before I can add anything else to my skin. It can make up stick to the area in clumps while still damp, so you do need to fully let it dry before adding make up. Another good thing is how little of the product you need. While they suggest to use one pump to split between the two eyes I sometimes feel this is a little too much. I received just a 5ml version for a day trial and two months later it is still going. I am now coming to the end of the sample but for your money you certainly get a lot of product.
In all honesty for the price this serum retails at I would not recommend it. I found it to be the most disappointing of the three items I received, but I was looking forward to trying it the most. Maybe I expected too much? They have very strong claims that it will make you look like you have had 8 hours sleep in 60 seconds. While my eyes have felt more moisturised, and generally it wakes me up leaving them feel refresh appearance wise it is lacking. I just find that my eyes look no better than they did before I started using the serum. At £27 for 15ml of this product it is a little out of my usual price range, and there is nothing amazing about it to tempt me into purchasing it. I cannot deny you get a lot from a tiny amount of the serum, but as it does not deliver the promised effects, so I just could not see myself purchasing it.
Mama Mio is a company I came across in January this year when I was offered the opportunity through a magazine to try three of their products for free. The three products I tried were the Clean Slate Cleanser, the Mighty Moisture day and night moisturiser, and the Eye Know eye serum. I have already reviewed the first two products extremely favourably, so I thought it about time that I followed up with my opinion on the eye serum.
My Try Me Trio (RRP of £23) was supposed to give me enough product for ten days trial to see how my skin responded to the product. Similarly to the other two products, this has lasted me a lot longer, although I have not been as faithful in my application of this product. However, even with daily use, my 5ml sample has lasted me a long time.
The cleanser and moisturiser have both been fantastic for my skin, helping it look a lot less blemished and brighter than it has done in years. I have been so enamoured by them that I spent £60 buying full sized versions of these two products. This eye serum however has not won me over quite as much, and as such I couldn't bring myself to spend £27 on 15ml of product. It's not that the product is horrid, more that I think my skin does not really need a product like it as such, so I don't feel the need to 'waste' money on this.
My facial skin is quite dry and very prone to blemishes, but I am lucky to have reached 34 with few signs of ageing (if I ignore the white hairs I keep finding) and particularly so in my eye area. There are dark circles most of the time due to the fact I am a mum, and I do get stressed easily which effects my sleep patterns. However, there are not any wrinkles apart from those when you wake up and you've slept on your face which fade as time goes on, and I don't suffer with bags either. I'm sure this is partly down to the sheer amount of water I drink - well beyond 2 litres per day.
So for me, I only have one of three things this product is aimed at treating, and dark circles are not something that disappear easily in my opinion. I find it easy enough to cover them with make up if I want to, and I am not overly worried about it.
The product itself is cased in a little pump dispenser that works very effectively. I think the packaging is very simply designed and this matches in with the other products. There is not a lot of room for information on the packaging, but it is made clear that there are no parabens, no petrolatum products or colourants, and this product has not got any fragrance added. The cleanser and moisturiser do, but I think it quite important that there is none when you are close to your delicate eye area.
The gel itself is clear in colour, and I find that one pump from the dispenser is ample to put in a circle under my eye area on both eyes. A pump for each eye is far too much. I find that the effect of the gel is that it is cooling, and if there are any dry dehydrated patches around this area, it helps to make it look healthier. The gel takes a few seconds to dry in, and I have found if I put too much on it feels a bit odd, and my skin is a bit flakey if I rub at the area later where the product has not absorbed and just sitting on my skin. The visible effect of this product is minimal - apart from looking less dry, it has made no visible difference to any dark circles on my skin. Another eye cream I have used in the past (again a bit sporadically, but at a similar level to this one) does seem to make the dark circles less apparent after using it, so for me, this is why I cannot be persuaded to part with my cash to repurchase this one. The other product was below £10. The only thing that would persuade me is if my eyes did develop wrinkles and bags and I would be happy to give it another go, and I appreciate some people want more natural products, and this would fit the bill on that score.
The advantage to this one is the all natural components that it is made from. A full ingredient list is supplied on the Mama Mio website here: http://www.mamamio.com/uk/face-heroes/eye-know.html. The ingredients are derived from plants and yeast and algae. I also like the idea that you are buying from a British London based company, and supporting 4 mums who have built their business upon making natural products that work. I also like the holistic approach they use where they send out a booklet with every purchase of face products giving instructions on how to perform facial exercises to improve your skin at the same time as using their products.
Perhaps I am taking the wrong attitude here, and I should be using this high protein care now while my skin is still in a fairly youthful state to make sure the collagen structure doesn't degrade. I think I'm of the opinion that some ageing is going to happen, and my skin seems happier and perhaps more resilient than some so far.
I wouldn't say don't get this, but I think I would try out the smaller size within the Try Me Trio pack first to see if this was any good for you before splashing out on the full size product. I have seen the trial products on sale on ebay for around £9 rather than £23, so it is possible you could experience all 3 products at a lower price if you search around.
