What they claim;
Ren Clean Skincare has been designed to give you 'healthier, more beautiful skin that looks younger for longer'. They aim to do this by focusing on creating products that contain no synthetic 'nasties' and only use ingredients derived from plant and mineral actives. Ren claim their products are innovative and effective whilst remaining pleasurable to use. The Active 7 Eye Gel claims to revive and brighten the eye area whilst reducing the appearance of puffiness and dark circles. Bold Claims.
What I say;
The product is a crystal clear gel with a very faint herbal/floral fragrance to it. The fragrance is barely detectable unless you purposefully sniff the product. I like this in an eye gel as too much fragrance can be very irritating but complete lack of fragrance can be a little boring. I like the freshness of the fragrance with this gel. It is invigorating and delicately hints towards the products natural ingredients.
The gel has a cooling and soothing effect when applied and smoothes on easily without tugging at the delicate eye area. I find that a little goes a long way and that the product spreads with ease. I do find that the area where the product has been applied can remain a little bit tacky for a few seconds after application but that is easily remedied by waiting a few moments prior to moving onto your next skincare/make up application although that may not be ideal for those in a hurry.
As with most eye gels the primary function is to cool, soothe and reduce puffiness. I find that this product achieves all of those things and generally makes my eye area appear more refreshed and makes me appear more awake. I don't find this product particularly moisturising but it certainly isn't drying. I think the main benefit of this product is it's ability to cool and soothe. I think it helps to reduce puffiness but I don't believe that it has had any noticeable effect on dark circles.
Price and Availability
The recommended retail price for the 15ml standard size is £20. You can purchase this product directly from www.renskincare.com and various online beauty stores such as www.beautyexpert.co.uk. I would recommend using caution when shopping around as there are more and more cases of premium beauty brand fakes appearing on the market. If in doubt always purchase from a reputable retailer.
Would I buy this product again?
I personally feel that the £20 price tag is justified as the product contains high quality ingredients and a little goes a long way so I do consider this product to be economical on a 'price per use' basis however. If tired eyes are something you are looking to combat then I would certainly recommend you give this gel a try.
As I get older I am aware that I need to take care of my skin and eyes and in particular the skin around my eyes as this is often where wrinkles appear first and what can really age your face. I find if I am tired, my eyes are the first to give it away and make my whole face look quite tired but with bright awake eyes my face seems to light up and I look younger. With that in mind I have been using this active eye gel from REN.
For those of you who have not heard of REN, to quote their website, "Since its launch in 2000 REN has become a cult favourite amongst beauty editors and consumers and is now available in department stores, pharmacies and spas in over 50 countries around the world. REN Clean Skincare gives you healthier, more beautiful skin that looks younger for longer.
REN's philosophy of Clean Skincare can be summed up in three words: Performance, Purity, and Pleasure. REN uses only 100% plant and mineral derived actives and is free from skin-unfriendly synthetic ingredients."
This eye gel is described as, " A light and cooling gel to treat, revive and brighten the delicate eye area, under or over makeup." I have used a lot of eye gels in my quest for tight, bright eyes and I have to say this is one of the best I have used. I think a lot of that is due to the fact that it is a natural product so it really feels like it is working with my skin and not against it. Some of ingredients are listed as: Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Glycerin as well as Vitamin P to protect the capillary network and flavonoids from Arnica to reduce puffiness.
The gel is quite thin and not as thick as some other eye gels I have used. You can tell its quite water based as it doesn't come out of the tube as gloomy as other eye gels. This means that it really soaks into my delicate eye area well and there is no stickiness or trace of product under my eye after it has dried. It has the instant effect of cooling the area to reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles and I love to use this first thing in the morning after my shower when my skin is just waking up as it really soothes it.
I generally use this before I put my make up on as I don't like to apply it over foundation or powder but you can if you wish, it will still work the same. I would say it has a faint plant like smell which is pleasant but once it is applied I can't smell anything.
The eye gel is fairly expensive, a 15ml tube will cost you £20 but as you only use tiny amounts at a time this will last for a long time and is very effective in my opinion.
I got the REN Active 7 Radiant Eye Gel as a free gift with a magazine. Though my sample was only a small 5ml one, it lasted ages (used once a day), and I have only just finished it up.
I'd never heard of the REN brand, but it packages its products in plain white with black writing. Personally I find it a bit boring, but then again it's the product that counts! It is claimed that this "light and cooling" gel, which is formulated with fig, will refresh and revive the skin around the eyes, helping with puffiness, dark circles, or tired or sore eyes.
I found the gel, which was clear and free from scent, to be refreshing and reviving as claimed; it didn't irritate my skin at all. I wasn't sure if it would make any actual difference to the skin under my eyes, but I think it did - I do suffer from puffy or sore eyes sometimes, particularly during the summer owing to hayfever, and it might be my imagination but my eyes did look better after using this.
A negative point is the price - the product costs £20 for 15ml, which is fairly expensive. However, as mentioned the product lasts ages - my 5ml tube lasted a good couple of months - so it's better value for money than the price alone would suggest. Still pretty costly though!
This is a good product, but I probably wouldn't buy it again, simply because I've tried products that do the same job but more cheaply (such as The Body Shop's Aloe eye gel). Still, I do recommend it as it does work.
I received this eye gel in a gift set from a magazine. REN make clean products that are free from skin-unfriendly ingredients including: synthetic fragrance, pore-blocking petrochemicals, sulfate detergents, synthetic colours, animal ingredients * and parabens. This eye gel aims to treat, revive and brighten the delicate eye area, and can be worn under or over makeup. REN claim that the gel cools and refreshes, reduces the appearance of puffiness and dark circles and that the eye contour looks smoother and firmer. According to the website, the gel contains; mucilages from fig refresh and revive tired eyes, wild rumex, arnica, ginseng and jiaogulan help reduce puffiness and dark circles, pectins from sea grass and natural hyaluronic acid smooth and tone the eye contour. This can be purchased direct from REN, online, or from John Lewis and Spake NK for £20.00 for 15ml.
The gel is clear and odourless, it is quite watery and has a light consistency. It is cooling and soothing when applied to the eye area and due to the consistency, it is absorbed within seconds. It feels refreshing and moisturising on the skin - without stinging, irritating or looking/feeling greasy. The under eye area looks a little brighter and more radiant after applying this. I don't feel that this cream improves dark circles and my eyes aren't hugely puffy, so I can't pass comment on this aspect of the gel.
As this is absorbed so quickly, I can apply my concealer straight away, this gel provides a nice base for make-up and my concealer glides on easily without dragging or gathering. My concealer stays in place without slipping off and my under- eyes look bright.
I don't experience any dryness under the eyes when I've used this - I have done before, with other eye creams - but this is not the case with this gel. My under-eye area is supple and smooth from using this for a 10 days.
The only thing I think this is lacking is any SPF to provide protection from UV rays. I would recommend this gel to those with normal skin who prefer light products around the eyes to refresh. I don't think that this is suitable for those with dry skin around the eyes, as although it is soothing and moisturising, I don't think it provides excessive amounts of moisture needed for dry skin. Like with all REN products, this is expensive so I don't think I will be purchasing, but all in all, it is a nice eye gel that delivers the vast majority of its claims.
