“ Brand: Argos / Type: Pedestal „
i purchased this fan from Argos. The fan is great value for money and it is free standing and can keep a good size room cool.
The benefits of this fan is its free standing and you can put it anyway and it will keep the room cool and you don't have to put it on the side of the table which the desk top fans do.
The disadvantages of the fan are. The fan is great value, however the fan does have some problems such as the stands feet are pretty long and hard to hide in the corner and can take up a lot of room. When the fan is not in use it does take up a lot of room in my home and it doesn't fold or come smaller when not in use.
However the fan had good and bad points to purchasing this fan and its the individual's choice to buy or not to buy. i brought the fan and found difficulties with the fan.
Since moving into a quite small and compact flat, my boyfriend and I have been a lot warmer than normal, especially with the weather we had not too long ago. At nights, our bedroom got extremely warm which made sleeping quite uncomfortable. Because of this, we decided to buy a large fan to cool us down at night. With few options of where to shop around here we headed to Argos and bought an Argos Value Range Oscillating Fan for £19.96.
The fan is a lot larger than a desk fan with it being on a pedestal. This means it stands up quite high and measures at 120cm in height. The fan only comes in a couple of pieces therefore, extremely easy to put together. There is very little involved and you could really put this product together without the use of any printed instructions. On the main body of the fan are four buttons which are used to make the fan work. One button turns the fan off while the other three determine the fan's speed. All buttons are easily pushed. This is also a plug in fan so there is also very little to do in order to get it to work.
For me, the best thing about this product is that it is an oscillating fan. If you haven't had one of these before it means that the fan will spin in a 90 degree arc, cooling down the whole room rather than just one area. However, there is also a little button behind the actual fan which you can press down and this will make the fan focus on one place only. We like to use this setting at night times just so the fan concentrates on us/ the bed rather than the whole room.
Another aspect of this fan that I really like is the different speed settings. The lowest speed is quite slow and only blows a small amount of air around the room. This is a nice setting for if it is not too warm and you want a little bit of air going around. Setting two is slightly stronger and does cool down a room quite quickly. The third setting is pretty powerful in comparison and can actually make a room feel cold instead of cooling it down. It is very rare that we use this setting though. Also, the highest setting is quite loud as the fan moves around quite quickly so it wouldn't be the best for while we're trying to sleep.
I am really impressed with this fan overall. For just under £20, I can't really complain. As I have said, it is easy to assemble and it cools us down really well. The fan is a bit bulky though and it takes up quite a bit of space in our bedroom so it does tend to get in the way while we aren't using it. Other than that though, I highly recommend this fan.
My bedroom faces the sun and this year with the weather being, how can I say this, fantastic, my bedroom has been like a sauna. Having the window open does very little apart from letting in bugs. I decided to get a cheap fan that would cool the bedroom for a few hours before it was time for bed. I didn't want to spend alot as it would only be used for 2 weeks of the year.
I bought this fan for just £20. I was hoping to get one for just over £10 but this was the cheapest one that I could find that did what I needed a fan to do. I did have to travel to an Argos further away from my usual store due to stock shortages but it wasn't too far away and the click and collect service was great.
The fan stands on a pedestal which is the perfect height to pass cool air around the room. It only took 5 minutes to assemble, it was really simple to put together. There are also three speed settings, I tend to put the fan on the middle speed setting as high is quite loud.
You can also set the fan to move in a semi circle, well 90 degrees. This is a good feature, but the majority of fans do this. By having the fan moving, it cools the entire room quicker rather than just in front of the fan.
We have it standing at the bottom of the bed blowing air towards the bed. It seems to work well and for the few weeks of the year that my house is unbelievably hot, it is perfect and does what it needs to do.
We are lucky that we can place it at the bottom of the bed as this passes the air around the room nicely. It does keep the room cool but another downside is the noise it makes. I can't sleep with the fan on so we have to have it running for a while before bed.
The only thing I can mark this fan down on is the fact that it is quite difficult to store it. If this wasn't an issue, it would have got the full 5 stars.
When I bought this product
About 3 months ago I had moved my bedroom into the loft, as my bed isn't near a window I knew I would need a fan to keep me cool during any warm nights, a desk fan wouldn't have been suitable as I wouldn't have anywhere for it to stand while in use, in the end I decided on this fan as it was being sold for less than £20.
My Experience / Features
I got the product home and opened the box, the instructions weren't the best I've seen as I found them very confusing, in the end I got it assembled and used it occasionally at first as it wasn't that warm when I first bought it.
This fan has three speed settings (slow, medium and fast), which up until around June 2013 I only needed to use the slowest speed setting during the night to help keep me cool, when I got back from my holiday in July I came back to a sudden heatwave so I knew the fan would need to be used.
With this in mind I put the fan into place and switched it on to the lowest speed setting, I also had the fan oscillating as my brother was in the room, I found that the oscillation was too slow on the first setting so I increased it to the second setting which is perfect for the room we're in and only have to increase it to the third setting on really warm days.
As I mentioned above there are two people needing the benefit of the fan so I usually have it set to oscillate and position the fan so that we both get the cool air blown at us, I can easily turn the fan slightly to try and circulate more air towards me or the other person.
Height and angle
The fan has a cap just below the control mechanism that can be used to raise or lower the fan, this really comes in handy when we get a really warm day as I can direct the air closer to our faces.
The angle the fan blows air can be easily adjusted by getting hold of the actual fan housing and pulling it up or down until you get the best angle for your environment, this is handy for during the night as I like to have it blowing air towards my bed which is slightly lower than the fan.
After using this fan for a while I expected the fan to be really loud during the night when I'm trying to sleep but it's actually fairly quiet when I have it on it's lowest speed setting, on warmer nights I tend to have it on the second speed setting and even this isn't much louder.
* Keeps you cool during warm weather
* Three Speed settings
* Not too noisy
* None that I can think of
I bought this fan not expecting much for my money, however I was proved wrong as this fan is very useful for keeping me cool during warm nights and would highly recommend this fan to anyone on a budget looking for home cooling devices so I will be giving this 5 DooYoo stars
Not so hot in the bedroom
My husband and I have our bedroom in the converted attic of our property, and it does get very hot and stuffy in the warmer months. We bought this a few years back and have just rather optimistically brought it in from the shed in the vain hope of some warmer weather! So I thought now was a good time to post this review.
As you can see from the picture, this is a standard looking fan, with the difference that it is on a pedestal. It was very simple to assemble and I think just about anyone could manage to put this together with ease. It stands at 120cm tall and on the main body of the pedestal, just below the fan itself, are four buttons which are the three speed buttons and the off switch. These are simple push buttons so it's a cinch to operate. It also came complete with a plug, so it's just a case of plug in and you're ready to go!
This is an oscillating fan which means you can set it to spin in a 90 degree arc, and this really does help to cool down the room - however it's really easy to simply press the button at the back of the fan to keep this still.
Three setting to keep your cool
As mentioned, there are three speed settings but we rarely use the top speed - we put it on setting 2 if we want to cool down the room rapidly, but generally we have it on setting 1. On the rare hot nights that we have in London, we do tend to keep this on at night and just having this on setting 1 is adequate. Naturally it is a little bit noisy but it's white noise so this doesn't affect either of us sleeping.
Does the job
This fan works really well and I have no complaints about it at all. Our bedroom is quite large and this really does help us to cool it down. The only thing that does bug me a bit is that, as it is quite large, it is difficult to store when it's not in use which is why it has to go in the shed in the winter months. This has been a bit annoying this summer as we have used it so little yet it has still been taking up space in our room as we have nowhere to stash it away unless we take it back out to the shed. But this in no way is anything negative about the fan itself, which we find works really well and does the job.
Price and availability
Obviously this is an Argos product so you will only find it in Argos stores. It costs £19.96 which I think is a good price.
