Advantages: It cools a room down
Disadvantages: The sound
When I have been out visiting family they seem to have these high energy and powerful fans which feel at times like they have air conditioning. They are actually just a normal sized fan in theory and yet the power they generate is fantastic.
The last week or so I have seen some of these huge fans for sale and some which are not and they all seem to have a high price tag attached to them. The majority seem to cost around £50 or more.
I currently have got a stand-alone fan which during the warm weather has done nothing to assist me in cooling down at all. The fan seemed to have little power and just seemed to spread warm air around the various rooms which was just adding to the humidity.
I went to a local electrical store that had this Bionaire fan down in price to £29.99 and I just thought I would go for it. I picked the item up and instantly you can see how heavy it is because although it has a handle on the top it is a tough fan to move around.
The fan is built for you already and you have a wall bracket as part of the equipment which I think is there for you should you feel the urge to put this on a wall. You are told how to do this with an instruction sheet as well which comes in handy.
The fan is metal and solid and you're instantly trying to find somewhere to put it. You have two options because of how the stand is designed. You can have the fan pointing forwards or pointing in an upwards type fashion.
On the back of the fan is the speed control and you have the usual three speeds which you have on most fans. When I turned this setting to the first number the speed was fantastic.
The speed for most people is a problem because it does generate exceptional speed but the speed helps generate this cool air which spreads around a room very quickly. This was just on setting one and my living room had curtains waving up and down and even picture frames falling over.
I decided to experiment further by turning it on to full blast and within 5 minutes the room was too cold and I actually needed to turn the setting down because of how cool it was. I admit perhaps that a home might not be the best place for this but my home can get warm quickly.
There is good and bad points like with most things. The good point is that it will cool you down and the home will have a nice cool air breezing through and it goes everywhere. Stand-alone fans tend to focus on air in one area and even then it is warm air.
The second good point is that you know on setting one the fan will offer cool air and if you need it cooler then setting three will help you achieve this feat.
The bad side is that your pets act differently because of this fan. My dogs seem unaffected by the power and sound it can generate. However, my cats tend to walk past and then run because they will fly away if they didn't walk.
The sound is also perhaps a problem as it is loud but I think like me within a few hours the sound is not really a problem but if you want to watch television then it is.
The fan was a great deal reduced from £60 to £29.99 and to me it is a quality fan which does provide excellent coverage for the cool air it generates. There are issues regarding sound and how powerful it can be but for me if you wish to be cool then this is a great item to have.
The fan size is 19 inches although it does appear bigger then this when you remove it from the box

Summary: A good air circulator/fan
