A fantastic tower fan from Bionaire.

Recently my husband and I, like most people, have really been feeling the heat. As it stands I usually have a tall pedestal fan running throughout the year, apart from the days when there is snow on the ground, as I am always hot thanks to several medical conditions. Recently my Mum treated my husband and I to quite a few items for our new home and she bought us two of these Bionaire BT19 fans.

The price paid for our fans was £45.00 each I believe with companies such as Very, Littlewoods and Amazon stocking them and these were delivered within 2 days by Very or Littlewoods, I'm not sure which now.

These fan came boxed individually and within the box there was the tower fan itself, the wire with 3 pin plug that was already attached and then a circular piece loose in the box that was in two halves. It was very simple to 'build' these fans and all we had to do was slot the two semi circles together at the bottom of the fan and turn a couple of bolt type fittings in to the bottom of the fan. This was very quick, taking just a couple of minutes to do per fan, and the fan and parts were fitted securely in the box to ensure that no damage had occurred to our fans in transit. The fan stands up on its bottom, as can be seen in the photograph on this website, and it is sturdy and secure.

The fan itself is black and silver. The styling of the fan is nice and well thought out with the vents of the fan being black and the main body and stand being silver. This fits in nicely in the bedroom that the two tower fans are used in and the fan spins on its base with no problems or noise at all. At the back of the fan there is a space cut out, smoothly, which holds the remote control and another space which acts as a hand hold for me to move the fans around comfortably. There are four buttons on the top of the fan, the first controls the power levels 1, 2 and 3 and also turns the fan off. The second button controls the two different changing breeze functions which basically means the fan has either a standard coolest and less cool breeze or oscillates while the breeze changes randomly in order to allow you to really feel the breeze more. The third button controls the timer with 1 hour, 2 hour, 4 hour and 8 hour functions available after which time the fan turns off. If I remember correctly when I have used the 8 hour option the fan has gone down from power level 3 gradually to level 1 before turning off at the end of the 8 hours. This seems to work as it should although recently we've had the fans running night and day without turning them off at all. The last button, the fourth button, is the oscillation button. This simply turns on and off with a press and the fan has quite a large oscillation range where the fan spins around and the base stays still. There is no noise, or screeching as I read about prior to asking my Mum for these fans, so perhaps that was a problem with older models or even an issue with attaching the base to the fan and over tightening the bolts.

All of the buttons are functional, work as they should, and are simple to press - even when I am stretching across from the sofa or the bed to reach one of the buttons. The buttons are soft touch buttons so they are comfortable and no excess force is required to press them.

The fan has a boxed weight of around 9kg and I would say that the actual weight of the fan is somewhere between 7 and 8kg, although it feels much lighter when in use and being moved around. I do not struggle to move this fan at all thanks to the hand hold area at the back and even when the remote is in this gap I can still pick the fan up with no problem at all.

At night-time my husband and I have been using the highest power level, level 3, and this really is very quiet, particularly in comparison to my standard pedestal fan that I was using prior to receiving two of these tower fans. The sound does not bother me at all, despite me being a very disturbed sleeper who usually gets bothered by all noise. I find that the fans are quite comforting and with one on both my side and my husband's side of the bed I have no problem sleeping through the gentle breeze and the noise that they create. The fans, even if just one is running, do create a lovely breeze and I can really feel the difference between the 3 levels with level 1 just taking the edge off when I am sweating from a workout and level 3 leaving me shivering in about 20-30 minutes if I am covered in sweat. At night-time recently we have been running both fans, as I mentioned already, with both of them being on the highest level, 3, to ensure that we are kept cool all night and we are still able to sleep with a sheet covering us, which we like to do.

The remote, which does not come with 2 AAA batteries, is very functional. It works from across the room and the buttons work in the exact same way that the buttons on the top of the fan works so this does not lead to any confusion at all. We scarcely use the remote, as they are usually tucked in the slot for the remote control so if we walk over to get it we might as well just use the buttons on the top of the fan I guess. The remote does work well when we have the fans in another large room as it means we can turn the fan on from across the room, but they mainly stay in one of our bedrooms now.

Overall the fan was simple to build, lightweight enough for me to carry it around, and it has a wire with a length of approximately 1.5 metres. The wire length is more than ample for our needs and we can plug this in anywhere throughout our house and use it in the room that we want to with ease. The different levels of the fan do have a difference and the maximum level is enough to cool me and the air around me quickly and with minimal noise. The power is 50W apparently but I don't know how that compares to other fans, all I know is that the two we have are quiet and work very well. The fans are quite durable as our 4 month old kitten has managed to knock one of the fans over a couple of times by hanging on the wire along with our older cat and generally just running and launching herself at it. I have stopped this problem by hiding the wire behind my bedside cabinet on both sides of the bedroom and we've had no problems since with them doing this to us. The fans are strong, sturdy and work very well, they were reasonably priced and we've had no problems with them turning off, not being as cool or fast or screeching when they move at all. 5/5 from me!
