Advantages: cooling, easy to put together & store

Disadvantages: £££

It's too hot for me at the moment. I love the sun but as I run around in the car from school, to home, to football, to play group, to home again it's a bit much. Thankfully my car has air conditioning so it's not that bad once that gets going.

Our house isn't overly hot as I've been keeping the light off during the day and haven't got all the electricals going but the baby, cats and my other half are continually complaining. I did a quick search on the internet for fans. I intended initially to just get one of those round stand-up ones you see everywhere. During my search I saw the Bionaire. It caught my attention as it was a stand-up one but not overly large and not white. Both things I was trying to avoid! I saw that it was in stock at Comet and went there after the morning school run.

They had about 10 in stock which was great as I was thinking they'd have all been bought up in this weather. It was a bit more costly then some other but it had a good review and would look good in my living room so I got it. I ended up paying £56. I could have probably shopped around and got it for less but I didn't have the time.

The box & packaging:

Very light box and was easy to pop into the car. It took me a bit of time to get the stuck-on security tape off and broke a nail (end of the world I know!). The packaging was minimal. There were four bits of Styrofoam and a sheet of bubble wrap.

Set-up:

I as always left the instructions in the box and put the bottom onto the fan bit without them. It was very easy and straight forward. Two screws in the bottom and you're done.

One thing I found that is really good is that the fan is inside an outer shell which makes it impossible for little fingers to get inside!

Plug in:

I plugged the fan in and began to get familiar with the buttons. There is of course the main on/off button in the middle, the fan speed button on the left, natural breeze button on the top, Timer on the right (2 hours, 4 hours, or 8 hours) and finally the oscillate button on the bottom. The top of the fan slides back and forth and underneath it is a slot for keeping the little round remote in. I can't say I care either way about having a remote for the fan but my other half thinks it's very cool!

I put the timer on last night to keep us cool going to bed and it was nice to know it would turn itself off.

For those who don't know the natural breeze option is basically one that changes speed randomly.

Most fans blow out air and this can be really cooling. Although this isn't an air-conditioning unit it cools the air so much it's at times too cold!

Thankfully there are no fights over who sits next to it as it covers the whole room easily.

Worth the money:

Oh yes! There are cheaper versions the work well but I know that I now have one that will last and is small enough for easy storage.

I like how this has a timer but the price is a little bit on the steep side for something I would probably only use a couple of times a year due to living in the frozen north ;-)
