I am very fortunate to have my own motorised treadmill that I like to run on most days. Running on it for up to 40 minutes at a time means that I do work up a bit of a sweat, especially as the treadmill is housed in our conservatory which can get rather warm to say the least! I was using a small desk fan perched on top of a cupboard but that wasn't really cooling me down enough so recently I have invested in a Duronic White 16 inch Oscillating Pedestal fan. It has its own stand rather than needing to stand on a surface and also with such a wide circumference generates a wonderful amount of cool air.

The fan arrives flat packed in its box so you do have to construct it. The instructions are pretty easy to follow and putting the fan together is not complicated anyway so it can be achieved in a matter of minutes. It feels reasonably stable when completed although the metal bars that form a criss cross stand at the bottom to seem a bit flimsy. I held it down with my foot whilst trying to adjust the height and realised that the bar was folding slightly. I soon stopped doing that!

As I just mentioned the height is adjustable. As I want it blowing in my face I tend to keep it as high as possible. This is actually about four foot high and because it also has an adjustable vertical tilt this is about perfect for me when I am running. It is very easy to adjust the tilt of the fan and you do this just by loosening a small screw, adjusting the tilt, and then tightening it up again. It's not difficult at all!

There are three different speeds at which you can set the fan by selecting different buttons and also it can oscillate or not just by pressing a switch. Funnily enough, I have just realised that I have been using the slowest setting when I have been running although I thought it was the fastest. This shows that it is actually very effective even when on slow and that with the fastest speed it really does create a huge amount of really cool air which is fabulous for cooling me down when I am running. This has to be due to the 16 inch diameter and the size of the blades.

It is a reasonably attractive fan in white and the safety guard is very secure. I am obsessed with this having two young daughters. Other fans we have had have lost their safety guards over time so this is always something to keep your eye on. It is also pretty quiet for a fan so it would be quite suitable to have it in a bedroom on a muggy summer night and not have a disturbed sleep.

The voltage is 240V - 50Hz and the power is 50 watts. It comes with quite a long lead too so that you can place it quite far from your socket which is also very handy. It currently costs only £16.63 from Amazon (May 2011) which I think is pretty good value.

Overall I really can't fault this fan at all and it is much better than any others we have. It is so good at cooling me down and an essential for long summer nights. At that price too it is an excellent buy and I am very pleased!

Summary: I'm very pleased
