Homebase Pedestal Fan
Advantages: Cheap and effective, does the job, easy to assemble
Disadvantages: As its so easily assembled it seems a bit unstable.
When things started heating up seriously over the last two weeks in my office and our air conditioning packed up (great timings ay) we needed a solution. So a few of us hot foted it down to the local homebase. It seems homebase knew things where gonna get a bit hot under the collar because these babies were cente stage as we walked in along with desk fans and all sorts of other contraptions for keeping you cool.
Weve had it for a few weeks now and we have had no problems with it. I tend to think that when you buy own brand cheapy products like this, especially electronics, they either fail in the first two weeks or keep on going for a long time and ended up being a well found buy...it looks like this fan is the latter.
You can buy it from Homebase for £18- which is reasonable when its a 12 inch blade jobby like this and when your buying it on your managers expense account. So we got 4 ! Apart from a little bit of dust build up on he blades, it still looks clean, this in itself is easily fixed as it has very simple latch on gril front, 3 latches that you can unlock without the need for tools, all by hand, so the blades can be cleaned.being white, dust shows up easily though
Its very lightweight, which is good when your putting it together and hauling it from the store, I could easily carry two of these in there boxes. Lightweight is also great when like us we have to move it around the office regularly, but this feature is also a drawback because the buffeting of the fan (the baffels) make the base (a simple four point base) sway very slightly from side to side and this creates a little bit of background noise. Not a problem in our office as we are all on the phone or arguing with each other, but in your house on a quiet day I can imagine hat this would start to bother some people. But the pedestal base is stable and not easy to tip over' The grill is tight and the holes small so you wont catch your fingers on it or any other bit of you for that matter
This fan is made of plastic and comes across as a bit flimsy but you dont mind, its not there to look good, its there to keep you cool. On this subject the fans have three speeds to this fan 1, 2, and 3, 1 is just about moving air around and 3 is like a helicopter in the room, with 0 being off obvisouly.
In addition the blades move from side to side, meaning that the air is being oscillated, if your a greedy one like me, I tend to switch this feature off and have it concentrating on me and you can turn it off very easily by pressing the knob on the top up and down, down keeps the oscillating going, and up stops it, keeping it at that angle it stops.
Setting up is easy , there are instruction sinside the box, being light its easy to put up and being plastic its easily cleaned.
Summary: Pretty good for the price- I would recommend
