Looks good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg

I work in an office where the ventilation isn't fantastic, so after bugging the office manager I ordered one of these fans from Amazon. I have been delighted with the purchase and have been much cooler since its arrival.

The Honeywell HT-216E is a 12" desk fan and it sits nicely on my desk and doesn't take up too much room. Working in IT, this was important as my desk can get quite cluttered with IT equipment. The fan also looks stylish and although I have this fan in the office, I would happily have it in my home. The fan is chrome, which in my opinion is much nicer than the white, plastic fans that most of my colleagues have. The base of the stand is robust and sturdy.

The fan oscillates left and right and there are 3 speed settings, so you are able to adjust it do your desired setting depending on home hot or cold you are feeling at the time. I haven't had any problems with the fan not being powerful enough to cool me off. I have also found that the fan isn't overly noisy.

Honeywell offer a 3 year warranty on the product and the current RRP is £29.99. However, you can currently (May 2011) pick it up on Amazon for £19.99. Honeywell have a strong reputation in this field and I believe this represents excellent value for money.

I would recommend this fan to friends and family and would purchase another one without hesitation if I required one at home. Compact, powerful and keeps me nice and cool.

      A good buy .

It's been pretty hot so far this year, and worse still, for the last few days there has been no breeze, so the air in the house feels hot and stifling. Lucky then that we decided to purchase a fan last year to keep us cool . My boyfriend decided to get the Honeywell HT-216E 12" Oscillating Table Fan in the Chrome finish - the main reason behind his choice was that he could get next day delivery, and he was really suffering from the heat, particularly when trying to sleep at night.

The fan is 34 cm long, by 30.5 wide, and is 45 cm tall. It's a good size for sitting on a table desk or worktop - we have ours on a table near the bed most of the time, as thats where the heat causes most problems with lack of sleep . However, we do move it from room to room if needs be, so it helps that there is a convenient sort of carry handle on the fan for carting it about . Its fairly heavy at 3.2 kg, but not too hard to move about .

The fan itself is a smart chrome affair, with four blades safely secured in a wire cage. The gaps in the cage structure are small, so it's relatively safe as it stops fingers getting in the way of the blades. It has a wide circular base that keeps it firmly in place, and the fan head angle can be adjusted by loosening a bolt at the side, moving the head, and then tightening the bolt again - I do find the bolt a little stiff at times, but I would assume it is meant to be to prevent children fiddling with it .

The fan has three settings (adjusted through a knob at the side of the base) which change the speed of the blades rotation and the amount of breeze produced. You can also change whether the fan oscillates, or simply stays still whilst on. The power cors is a nice length, about 1.8 metres, so I can easily plug this in and still have plenty of flexibility in where I place it .

It takes a few seconds to kick in fully once started, but even on the low setting a nice cooling breeze is produced which cools the room down fairly quickly, whilst the highest setting simply blasts cool air at you . It's surprisingly quiet when running- yes, you'll hear some noise, but it won't ruin you watching TV or reading unless it's right near your head.

I think perhaps my one criticism of this fan is that I have a rather large bedroom, and some parts of the room simply don't get touched by the breeze. However, this is a rather small fan, and I really shouldn't expect miracles. Touch wood, nothing has gone wrong with this fan so far, but it's reassuring that it came with a 3 year manufacturers warranty.

For £35, I think it was a good buy. I think at some point this summer I probably will purchase a larger and more powerful fan so that my whole room is kept cool , but this would certainly do the job excellently in smaller rooms.

      4 stars. Recommended
