Kids at Play Little Cooks Kitchen
by mickr Kids at Play Little Cooks Kitchen As a present, our little one received this 'Little Cooks Kitchen' from a family member and her eyes lit up when she ripped open the wrapping paper. She has always loved playing with other play kitchens, and adores real cooking, so this play kitchen was something she had wanted for a ... while. The kitchen is £16.99 in Argos and I have seen the same online for a little less though this is the average price. The kitchen stands at approximately 88cm high which is quite a bit smaller than some toy kitchens though it is designed for three years plus which is a perfect size, though really, I can not see it lasting many years as your child grows. Putting this kitchen together was a little taxing, which frustrated my youngster. The instructions were fine, though the way that this kitchen is made, makes it difficult for one person to put together alone as you need to push parts together whilst slotting in other parts. It took a while just to get one piece in! After it was put up properly, there was a whole host of stickers to put in all the relevant places. My youngster wanted to do this, though after trying to stick the first down in the wrong place, we tried to peel it off and it immediately ripped! Note to myself and others: Build this kitchen fully before wrapping up for the child! The kitchen itself looks lovely. It is set in two pieces, the base (which caused most of the problems in assembling it) and the top shelving unit. The main colours are pink and purple with some white parts finishing it off nicely. As already mentioned, there are loads of stickers to add to the appearance of not only the kitchen itself, but the accessories also. There are a few different plastic hooks and shelves to hang the accessories on and the small oven door opens up for the child to put the pans inside to 'cook'. The side shelves are rather small and most things fall off of them though the bottom shelf holds a good number of bits, and the hooks keep the supplied utensils hanging perfectly. You also have space on the main base with a sink and cooker top. The kitchen comes with twenty accessories which include everything from pans to cardboard food boxes. From a few of these kitchens I have looked at, this seems to come with a better range of accessories. Now, the appearance is lovely though in reality, the kitchen is perhaps not so. There were a number of problems I found with this. The first was the sheer flimsiness of the kitchen. It is very lightweight and easily falls over, and when this happens, parts of the kitchen fall apart! This has also included the bottom part which was the difficult part to build which meant rebuilding the whole base which became so annoying! Other problems include the stickers coming off of the kitchen and accessories, the cardboard food breaking easy, and the height problem for taller children. It is not all bad, though, as my little one loved playing with it despite the problems, though personally I would recommend not buying this and perhaps looking at toy kitchens a little better made. Just Like Home Mega Food Playset
by baby-cakes My daughter received a few items from the Just Like Home range from Toys R Us for her birthday and Christmas last year and one of those items was the mega food play set - and mega it really is!! There are 120 pieces in this set and there is a great range of foods - there are vegetables such as corn, chillies, carrots, lettuce ... and onions, fruits such as grapes, pears and apples, and then other foods such as pizza, fries, burgers, chocolate, ice cream, doughnuts, cake along with packets and tins of foods and a mini salt and pepper pot. The food comes in a large clear fronted cardboard box, with the pizza being the initial thing that you see as its large in the middle of the box. The downside with the packaging is that once opened there is nowhere to put the food so i had to buy a plastic box specially. My little girl adores this set, she loves making the meals in her kitchen and then plating them up to serve to myself and her Grandma. The set really promotes role play and imagination and I love that it does that, its a really important part of play in my opinion. The variety of items in this set is what I think really makes it a good buy however there are some very small crisps (just like pringles) which I really don't like as I feel they are too small and thin to be totally safe. The set is recommended for children aged 3 and above, but even then I think the pringles aren't all that safe as children at this age still tend to put things in their mouths. All in all I feel this set has been a really good buy and my daughter has had a huge amount of play from it, and at £12.99 personally I think it was a bargain! There are various other sets in this range so you can just keep adding to the collection if you so wished. I would recommend this play set as a great starter for food play, the range of food in the set is adequate for children to make pretend meals and also play shopping! Read the complete review |

Kids at Play Little Cooks Kitchen
by cloud99 My son loves to play with kitchens whenever we go to parent and toddler groups and when he is at nursery so for his second birthday I bought him this kitchen. The kitchen is pink but I do buy my son pink things if they are what he wants. I have on occasions bought things that are cheaper in pink than blue and he really doesn't ... care what colour his toys are. The kitchen is available from Argos for £16.99. It is designed for children over three years of age and comes with 20 accessories items which include pans a mobile phone, salt and pepper pots, cooking utensils and cardboard boxes with food designs to represent food. It has a shelf with utensils racks hanging off, a sink and cooker top. It has an oven and lower shelves for storage. It is 88cm high, 47 cm wide and 31cm long. My experience I put this together one on an evening once my son was in bed. The instructions say two people to assemble but as a single parent I am used to doing the job of two people so this held no fear for me. Assembly was a nightmare. It really did need two people it needed to hook the back in while holding two selves in place. There was quite a few swear words so it was fortunate my son was asleep. The top half was much easier to fit together. The utensil rack literally clipped on to both sides. There was then a load of sticker to put on everything from the oven front to utensils and plates. Once it was completed I hid it in the garage until the day of my son's birthday. It was not wrapped but there ready to play with. My son was delighted to see the kitchen and did enjoy playing with it; He enjoyed cooking with a small frying pan. He poured himself small drinks of water in the little cup. One of the problems with this product is my son wanted to cook his cereal and crisps and so the toy plates, cups and pans needed to be washed up this then meant that the stickers got wrecked and had to be removed. While I realise that this is designed for a three year old and older. While my son is quite a boisterous the utensils rack he would pull off as soon as he started playing with the kitchen. I also found that when he would start dragging the kitchen around the lounge the back and shelves fell apart. I did fix this on a couple of occasions but it needed to be completely taken apart to rebuild. My son was happy playing with this but it was far to flimsy for my son and I ended up giving it away on Freecycle to a child who hopefully didn't treat there toys too roughly. I have since bought a better quality kitchen which and it has definitely been worth the extra money. I would not recommend this product as I have seen a couple of more robust play kitchens that are only a little more expensive. Read the complete review |
