Argos Glamour Play Shoes
Advantages: fun, averagely priced
Disadvantages: needs supervision, quite thin fitting
My daughter loves to dress up, so she was very pleased when her cousin decided to buy her a set of shoes for her birthday this year. My daughter had been dying to get some play shoes, but I was always a bit hesitant thinking she might break her ankle or something wearing them.
I'm quite glad I relented in the end as I can see the joy my daughter gets from wearing them.
The set of six pairs of shoes can be purchased from Argos for £9.99. Personally I think this is an average price for what you receive as each pair is different, and as long as they are well looked after, i.e. only wearing them indoors, then they will last you a long time.
Each pair in the set is to fit one size, which is generally from the age of 4 through to 7 depending on the child's foot size.
First impressions of the shoes are that they are quite a narrow fitting. Now I know I'm not buying sensible shoes here, but children with wide feet may find it difficult to walk in them due to the width.
Each pair is different in colour and design which is quite nice as you can mix and match with dress up outfits. The main similarity between each pair is that they all have a small kitten heel. This is essential to little girls to provide them with that loud click clack as they walk. I honestly think this is the main reason that little girls want these shoes, so they can make these noises.
The quality of the shoes are bordering on average to good in my opinion. They are made fully of solid plastic, each with the heel piece as a separate piece of plastic for some reason. This is where I think they could break if they were going to. I think if they were used outside then this would be the main area they would get ruined quickly.
The designer area on the top of the shoe is decorated with fur, feathers etc. We have found that this area does tend to be where the damage has shown after six months of playing.
There was no show storage with this set when we received it, but to be honest it's not too much of a problem as they get stored in the dress up box along with all the outfits.
The recommended age for these shoes is over three years. I would be dubious giving to a young child as they do teeter and totter when wearing them obviously. With supervision these shoes are fine for three year olds to wear as often I have found that my daughter will wear them for a few minutes and take them off again.
They're not the easiest thing for a small child to walk in from watching my daughter, but she tends to slide along the floor which still makes the click clack rather than pick up her feet which makes the shoes safer to wear in my opinion.
Overall I think these shoes do have a place in a child's role play imagination, and when supervised and worn indoors only they can be fun for everyone.
Summary: a fun addition to the dressing up box
