My eldest daughter, now aged 6 was not an immediate Disney Princess fan from the moment she was born. It was only once she started school and began mixing with other little princesses that she cottoned on to the Disney phenomena. She learnt who all the princesses were and made an informed decision that Belle (from Beauty & The Beast) was her favourite, and requested the dress for Christmas last year. So her Nanna obliged and purchased this one from Argos. I was hoping for a more deluxe version, but my daughter was pleased with this so I need to pipe down.
The dress is made from a bright yellow satin type material, and the skirt part is gathered to replicate the dress in the movie, and the bodice section is fitted and slightly elasticated, and has a large image of Belle on the chest. I hate this part of the dress and think it would look better without it, but my daughter seems to like it. The dress is sleeveless and has two narrow straps on the shoulder and then two straps that are designed to drop off the shoulder which confused my daughter at first but she soon got used to it. She hates having bare arms so she usually wears a long sleeve top underneath anyway, and I think the manufacturers should have considered the sleeveless aspect of it because its not always practical.
What annoys me about this dress is that there is no lining, so its really flimsy. We are in possession of numerous other Disney princess dresses which have linings that beef up the dresses and make them look chunkier. This one has nothing.
If you look at the images of the dress on Argos' website, the dress hangs around mid calf length. However, considering my daughter is 6 (so in the middle of the recommended age range of 5-7) the dress drags on the floor, so it could do with being a bit shorter. She wore it to school for a full day back in January, and at the end of the day she had black marks all around the bottom of the skirt, from her standing on it, and probably other kids standing on it as well.
My initial thoughts about the dress were that it looked tacky, felt cheap, and was poorly made. And to be honest my thoughts haven't changed, but who cares what I think? My daughter loves it, has worn it several times and miraculously it hasn't fallen apart. I even dared run it through a quick wash cycle and it came out unharmed!
So although it wouldn't be my first choice as a Belle dress, and I certainly wouldn't pay £14.99 for it (the current price in Argos), it has pleased my daughter immensely, and that's all that counts right?!
It comes in two sizes - age 3-5 and 5-7.
For Halloween my little girl decided rather than dressing as something scary, she would like to be a princess. While shopping for costumes she spotted this Belle dress and instantly knew it was the one for her. She had recently received a copy of Beauty and the Beast so at that point in time Belle was her favourite princess. It is styled on the yellow dress that Belle wears, and on the middle of the chest it has a large picture of princess Belle printed. It does puff out at the bottom considerably but the dress itself is a little lifeless. Not that it does not look pretty while on it just seems to lack the Princess oomph, and I think this may because the material is a little thin. An underskirt under the dress works perfectly to bring the skirt out a little more making it more dramatic, and means my daughter can get the effect she wants as she spins around.
On first impressions the material seemed a little thin and flimsy. As my little girl is very active I was worried it would rip straight away but has actually held up really well. The material does feel a little scratchy, but my little girl has ever had any problems with it irritating her skin. She can move around well in it without it causing any obstruction, she even wore it to a party at the local soft play with no problems at all. The sizing seemed to be ok but there was an issue with the way it fitted. On the shoulders you have 2 sets of straps. There are straps that fall down to little ones shoulders as Belle's dress does, but as this isn't very practical for a child there are also 2 that sit correctly holding the dress in place.
We found that while the normal straps sat well on my daughter, the falling shoulder straps were a little out of shape, drooping a lot irritating her upper arms. She did get used to the way they sat and she was happy with the dress, but it did take some getting used to. They are not too loose that I would worry about them being dangerous by catching on anything and she does seem to have grown into them a little. The arms are elasticised so they can give little one a little growth room, so that helps with the longevity. Other than that the sizing seemed true to other clothing items, and it sits three quarters of the way down my daughter's legs. Again I would have preferred a full length dress, as would my daughter but this seemed to be a common factor in princess dress up.
As my daughter wore this for both a party and Halloween the weather was very chilly. I paired the dress with white tights and a cardigan to keep the cold Scottish weather from getting to her, but it is fine on its own in the house. There are no accessories with this dress, so my daughter chose to use her costume jewellery just to add a little sparkle to her outfit. She also likes to wear it around the house to be a princess for a day. It is fantastic for role play, by giving my daughters imagination a boost. My little girl is going through a stage where she loves to dress up so she was over the moon to add another outfit to her collection. Despite her now having a number to choose from, Belle does make an appearance fairly often as she is still my little girl's favourite.
We have washed this dress numerous times since we purchased it. The first few times it came out it really did look brand new without any damage. As time has gone on the picture of Belle has faded a little, but it is not peeling or breaking away from the dress so my daughter still uses it. A few parts of the dress are fraying a little, but again nothing noticeable unless you are doing the washing and inspecting the clothes as you go. This is perfect for keeping the dress clean without having to worry too much while she is wearing it. After washing the dress it does become creased especially around the skirt area. These creases end to drop out once it is hung up, and although it says it should not be ironed it can be straightened out on the lowest setting.
For around £8 this dress is a great buy. It may not be the deluxe version of this costume, but my little girl still really enjoyed wearing it. We have washed it a few times and although there is slight fading it is nothing too much so that the dress looks tatty and old. The sizing can be a little strange with the straps of the dress a little large for daughter. It is widely available online, but we purchased ours from our local XS stock. It seems to retail between £8 -£15 which I think is a fair price for a Disney dress up. It is in no way a deluxe costume but my little girl truly loves it so that is what matters.
My daughter is 11 years old (so this shows how long ago i purchased this costume for her!), but after a recent de-clutter of our spare room, i found a whole host of her old dressing up costumes, with this particular one being among them!
The dress itself was purchased because my daughter was really into the Disney franchise, and in particular the princess's (Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine etc...), which most little girls go through!
The dress is like a ballgown and is supposed to represent the dress worn by Belle (Beauty and the beast), when she attends the ball for two halfway through said film.
The dress for a little girl is very fancy looking with the bodice part being a cross between a vest top and string top, making it both comfortable to wear but grown up to look at.
The skirt part is made up of swags of satin material, layered to give the skirt a very full looking effect, so when my daughter would wear it it would "swish" around her, making her look very regal! She would also match this look with her fancy plastic high heels, which to this day i don't know how she didn't break her neck in them!
The dress is a lovely canary yellow, and is made up of satin and what i would describe as a stretchy velour for the top, which makes it comfortable to wear (she would wear this dress for hours at a time, with her even trying to wear it to bed once!), but also leaves it looking like a minuature ball gown!
There are a few details on the dress, for instance there was (when first purchased) a rim of mariboo fur around the shoulder straps, and also a broach featuring a picture of Belle on the bodice (just to tie the dress to the film i think!), but the mariboo soon either wore off or got picked off over time, and no longer exsists!
Sizes available start from around the 4-5 mark, with me buying my daughter the next size up for her to grow into, which she did, then grew out of, but with how the dress is designed she was still able to squeeze herself into it well after she surpassed the age on the garment.
To clean i had to sponge it down rather than machine wash it, which i had to do a few times due to her majesty liking to have tea parties at the same time, and there was always some sort of jam stain down the front, but this did seem to come out reasonably well, except for a small grease stain on the back of the satin skirt, which remains to this day!
Wear and tear aside from the loss of fluff, and the small stain i found that it wore very little, maybe a little fraying of the seams around the bottom of the dress but that is about it, so little in fact that i have recently just given it to a work friend for her grand daughter who has just entered the Disney princess phase, and apparently she has yet to take it off!
Price wise i recall this being quite expensive at the time, but due to it being part of a "buy 2 get third free" deal being run that year in my local Woolworths, collected a fair few pieces of dress up stuff.
Via www.amazon.co.uk this costume is now available for around the £10 - £12 mark (increasing in price when increasing in size!).
This was a lovely costume that is now having a second lease of life with a new little princess, recommended!

WHAT IS IT?
A dress up costume for little girls in the style of Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
This is a very pretty dress that is bright yellow with stitching to hold the skirt up in horizontal pleats. It has got a fitted bodice that shows an image of Belle and a full skirt. The fabric is a false satin but feels very shiny and cheap, I think the skirt is a strange length too and hangs mid calf when other Belle dresses I have seen have been closer to the ankle.
WHAT I THINK
I have seen better Belle dresses and do not think this is a very good fit. It does up at the back with velcro but this is sewn on messy so it does not meet properly and the dress doesn't close fully. My daughter is 6 so I bought the 5 - 6 years dress and even though it fits on the bodice and waist the skirt is this strange mid calf length and she never looks like she is very comfortable in it.
The dress is wipe clean only but wiping it does not remove any dirt or stains that have got on the fabric. My daughter had only wore it once and then the stitching on the skirt started to rip the fabric and by the time her party finished there were three big holes in the skirt.
WHAT MY DAUGHTER THINKS
She liked the dress very much when I first bought it for her but said it was itchy on her back where the velcro was. She kept twirling around but the skirt is a bit too tight fitting to spin round properly. She was very disapointed when the skirt developed holes but wore it for a few times after because she still liked it and I could not take it back because I had bought it from a shop too far from our home.
2 Dooyoo Stars.
My eldest daughter was going to a classmates fancy dress party a few months back but her dressing up costumes were a bit too small for her so I put a post on Facebook asking if anyone had anything suitable and she was lucky enough to be given a bag of dressing up outfit one of which was the Belle dress.
Belle is a character from the Disney film Beauty and the Beast, the dress was given to my daughter like I said above however for the purpose of this review I had a quick look on the internet and have found that the dress sells for £9.14 with £2.74 delivery which I think is about standard pricing for dressing up outfits.
My daughter is 5 and the dress is aged 5-6, my daughter is quite tall but she is of average build and the dress fits her well and would probably do her a while yet so I would say the sizing on the dress is a pretty good gauge. The dress is also available in ages 3-4 and 7-8.
The dress is a bright yellow in colour and is sleeveless with two straps that sit on your childs shoulders, the dress has a picture on Belle on the front of it situated on your childs chest. The Belle on our dress has worn a little but then I don't know how old this dress is or how often it has been washed so I cannot really comment on how durable the dress is. The straps on the dress are elasticated and the bottom half of the dress puffs out which my daughter thinks is great and she says it makes her a princess.
The dress cannot be washed fully but simply sponged down but as it is only a dress up outfit we haven't had a problem with this but then if there was any sort of spillage this may be a problem.
My daughter loves the dress and she likes dancing around in it, every time we watch the film she has to put her dress on to dance at the end. I would say the dress is pretty good quality as it is in a good state of repair apart from the picture on the front and I think it is worth the price it is currently being sold at.
My eldest daughter was given a Disney Belle dressing up outfit as a gift, and she absolutely loved it, in fact I think she would have slept in it if I had let her. Only problem was anything my eldest daughter loved, my youngest daughter loved and after much arguing over the dress I decided to buy my youngest her very own Belle dress. I was looking for something fairly cheap and eventually came across this dress on Amazon for £9.87 with free super saver delivery. I ordered it and within a few days the postman knocked with a very large Amazon parcel.
On Amazon the dress is avaliable in the age ranges 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. There are various other Princess dresses avaliable from Cinderella to Aurora all in different colours and designs. The Belle dress however is yellow or "gold" according to the product description. On the front is a motif print design of Belle which is already starting to fade slightly. The shoulder straps are slightly elasticated but not adjustable, meaning that sometimes they slip off. The skirt is very pretty and again elasticated around the waist, it is ruffled and puffs out well.
The dress does come with some warnings. For example Choking Hazard and Keep away from Fire. The label also states that the dress is to be sponge cleaned only as it is not machine washable. I found this slightly annoying as its a bit of a pain to hand clean a childs dressing up oufit. Also the dress is not the best quality, after only a few times my daughter wore the dress it began to fray and it also developed a small hole. I suppose this is something to expect from such a cheap item and I was able to fix it with a needle and some thread. Whilst I can't see this dress lasting very long it does do the job as a fun dressing up outfit to play with at home. My daughter has been very happy with it and a few months on it is still one of her favorite toys. When it does eventually fall apart I think I will purchase something a bit more expensive and of a better quality next time thought.
