My daughter requested a Cinderella dress for her birthday. I decided to get her Cinderella dress from The Disney Store as they tend to look nicer and are better quality than most costume dresses that can be bought elsewhere. I brought her dress from The Disney Store for £30.00 which I suppose it quite steep for a childrens dressing up costume. There are lots of similar and cheaper alternatives available in many supermarkets etc, however we were also visiting Walt Disney World so I wanted her to have a 'proper' Cinderella dress for the occasion. I probably would have considered a cheaper alternative if it was just going to be used for dressing up indoors.
Rather disappointingly the dress doesn't come with any extras (except arm warmers), so matching shoes/bag/jewellery/hair accessories will come at an extra cost. The Disney Store have lots of matching accessories. I brought matching wand, shoes and tiara!
Sizes start at 2-3 years and go all the way up to 9-10 years. The sizing may be a problem for some as they skip some sizes - for example they do size 3-4 years and 5-6 years, but no in between (4-5 years). We chose a size 5-6 which is generally my daughters size at the moment and it fitted perfectly.
The first thing to point out is the dress is gorgeous! It's very pretty and will make any little girl feel like a princess. A lot of small details have been added to make it look extra special, there's an incredible amount of detail. The dress looks very similar to Cinderella's real dress (although this one has a lot more sparkle!).
It's completely blue in colour. The bodice has different types of patterned lace netting across the front. At the very front is light blue ruched netting, next to that is light blue netting with glittery star pattern on it and around the sides are darker blue lace panels with light blue glitter scattered all over them. The bodice also has rows of sparkly silver sequins all across it and a big blue jewel stitched at the top. The bodice around the back has velcro tabs to fasten the dress and is made from a velvet/velour type material. I quite appreciate the soft material on the back as it means it doesn't snag on the velcro like it would on the satin or lace (it's more comfortable to wear too). The dress has puffball sleeves which are made of light blue lace netting and have glittery stars printed all over them.
The skirt (which is attached) has a hoop at the bottom. This makes the dress look/feel extra elegant and like a proper ballgown. The skirt is made from a smooth satin material and also has two and a half layers of lace netting on top to make it even more big and puffy! The bottom layer of lace is a plain light blue colour, the middle layer is a darker blue and smothered in glitter, the top 'half' a layer is only about 10 inches long (flows down from the bodice) and is covered in glittery stars and edged with sparkly silver sequins!
The dress comes with light blue velvet/velour arm warmers which fit nice and snuggly on my daughters little arms (without falling down). They look great with the dress and very posh indeed! They have small elastic hoops at the end. Children can put the hoop over one of their fingers. My daughter sometimes puts the hoop on her fingers, but usually doesn't bother.
The dress is made from polyester and nylon and is machine washable. Many cheaper alternatives have to be hand washed or sponge cleaned so I was very happy about this. My daughter has splattered her dress in so many different things and I have had to wash it a few times. All of the stains have been removed and the dress is still in good condition. I was slightly concerned that the glitter would wash off but it hasn't. The hoop should be removed when machine washing but I have left it in a couple of times and it's been fine (the hoop is very durable - you can bend it as much as you like and it will spring right back in to place afterwards!).
The Cinderella dress is lovely, my daughter adores it and looks so cute in it! She loves twirling and dancing about it in. She wore it to Walt Disney World and was so excited to meet the princesses whilst dressed up as Cinderella. She even met Cinderella herself whilst wearing the same dress and was very happy when Cinderella said they were twins! She has also worn this dress on many other occasions - birthday parties etc. However most usually it's used for dressing up indoors.
It's quite a durable costume, it's been in regular use for over 4 months and is still in very good condition. There are absolutely no snags to the dress (which there were on her Disney Store Rapunzel dress), even if there were, you probably wouldn't see them due to the amount of lace netting! A couple of very minor downsides are that the glitter comes off really easy and gets EVERYWHERE. Also, my daughter usually complains that the top half is 'itchy'. However this doesn't put her off wearing it and she usually forgets about it after 5 minutes!
Overall I'd say this is the perfect dress for any litttle princess and is sure to please any young Cinderella fan, as long as you don't mind forking out for it!
