The Dress My little girl loves Disney princess and her interest has only increased since we dined with them at Disneyland Paris. Dressing up has always been a favourite in our house, so while I was shopping in Sainsbury's in their 25% off clothing sale I decided to stock up on a few sets. I came across this Rapunzel dress us and thought it would be perfect for my little girl. The usual retail was £14 and in the set you receive the dress itself, and a headband with a long braid bit of blonde hair just like Rapunzel's. The dress is made up of deep purple and pink trimmings and looks just like Rapunzel's dress in the film tangled. There are purple swirls of glitter detailed all over the dress and it is very sparkly. On the front of the dress is a small bow at the neckline with a plastic button with a picture of Rapunzel on it. There is also sheer fabric running across the middle of the dress with a rose in the middle to create a belt. At the beginning of the skirt there is a small plastic underskirt area underneath the dress to make it flair out a little. Unlike other dressing up sets we own it only sits at the midriff rather than continuing all the way down the skirt. It still works well as it gives the dress the puffy looking skirt, but it means there is only soft fabric in the skirt so they can move around freely. The whole dress has the Disney princess feel and has the wow factor for small children. Our thoughts I always tend to go a size up for dressing up sets as I normally find the sizing to be quite small, and as they are so expensive to purchase anything to prolong the life a little is good. As my little girl was four and a half I was a little worried about getting the next size up as it was 5-7. After searching through the dresses this was the only size available, so I risked it hoping it would fit and even if it did not she would grow into it. We found just like other costumes this is small made. The five to seven years was the perfect size for my little girl. The full skirt just touches the floor, the arms and neck fitted her perfectly with help from the elasticised trims. For this reason I do not think it would last anywhere up to 7 years old. I would say my little girl could maybe last it out until she is six (she is five now) but she is not overly big for her age and it already fits her perfectly. The headband however we found to be too big. While the dress fits her perfectly the headband constantly slides around on her head. We can fasten it on with a bobby clip if she is going to a party to hold it in place, but for wear around the house we find it falls down her head and in front of her eyes. Now I did purchase a bigger size so we cannot complain about that, but as it fits my head but still slides forward as it feels front heavy I still have a feeling it would be too big for a 7 year old. When we get it to stay in place it is a great addition for role play. Of course one of the most important features about Rapunzel is her long flowing locks, so this is an important accessory for my little girl. The braid falls past her shoulders so she can let down her hair whenever she likes waiting for that prince to climb up it. The dress is very comfortable for her to wear. It is elasticised on the arms and waist to give it a better fit and the lack of underskirt makes it very easy for her to get around in. The material is a fair thickness, not too thick that she will become hot wearing it with clothes underneath, but not too thin that I am worried about it ripping or tearing while she is playing. She is able to get the dress son and off herself, and she has attended parties in this dress where she has run around nonstop without the dress restricting her in any way at all. The material is very soft so even if it is touching skin directly rather than clothing underneath it causes no irritation. I have washed it many times a low heat cycle and it comes out as good as new. There is no deterioration at all and even the sparkles remain intact which I was pleased about as I always find dressing up costumes a little hit and miss. It cannot be put in the dryer, but because of the material it dries very quickly on an airier or on the line so there is no need anyway. My only downside is that it needs to be hung rather than going in the dressing up box, as the skirt can become really creased if it is not left to drop freely. My little girl loves this dress, and it is one of the better value ranges of dressing up pieces we own. It is a lot more durable and pretty than the Princess dresses available from Ruby dress ups, and washes well over and over again. The material is perfect for being both practical and pretty and when my little girl has this on she feels like a real princess. There are lots of details, glitter and a nice full skirt to make it perfect for any little girl. There is no way to miss it is Rapunzel dress and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Princess dress up for their little girl.
After watching tangled my daughter became very engrossed in Disney princess which was a big surprise considering she was such a tom boy at one point. After watching the film about a hundred times she asked if she could have a dressing up outfit. I would normally buy her dressing up costumes from the Disney store as I know the quality to be fantastic however they can be expensive so when I seen the outfit in argos for £14.99 I decided to get it for her. The dress is a light and darker purple colour and made from a satin material which is slightly elasticated in all the right places to enable the child to put on and take the dress off with ease. The bodice contains the criss cross detailing like the original costume and has puff ball shoulder parts with netted 3 quarter sleeves. The skirt is long and even though my daughter is tall it went right down to her feet. I chose a size 5-7 which is very generous in length. The outfit has been a firm favourite in our house and my daughter wears it at least once a week so it has been washed many times and has still retained its shape and colour and looks new apart from a few clicks due to the kind of fabric it is. The dress also comes with a 90cm hair piece that can be clipped into the hair. I think that the dress would have been better suited with a full wig to add to the effect as the hair strip isn't convincing against darker coloured hair as my daughter pointed out. Overall I think this is a fab costume and certainly looks the part for any child who likes Rapunzel.
For the past year my daughter has been mad on Disney's Tangled, so for her last birthday I decided to get her a Rapunzel dress! This review is based on The Disney Store Exclusive version of the dress... **Price & Availability** I brought her dress from The Disney Store for £30.00 which I suppose it quite steep for a childrens dressing up costume. There are lots of similar and cheaper alternatives available in many supermarkets etc, however we were also visiting Disneyland so I wanted her to have a 'proper' Rapunzel dress for the occasion. I probably would have considered a cheaper alternative if it was just going to be used for dressing up indoors. **Extras (or not!)** Rather disappointingly the dress doesn't come with any extras, so matching shoes/bag/jewellery/hair accessories will come at an extra cost (The Disney Store have lots of matching accessories). Plus a HUGE part of Rapunzel's look is her long hair - I personally think the dress should have come with some sort of wig... **Sizing** Sizes start at 2-3 years and go all the way up to 11-12 years. The sizing is quite annoying as some age ranges aren't included - for example my daughter was a perfect size 4-5 years but I could only choose from 3-4 years or 5-6 years, no inbetween. As the dress was quite long and the sizes seemed quite generous I decided on 3-4, which fitted fine. **Look** The first thing to point out is the dress is gorgeous! It's very pretty and will make any little girl feel like a princess. A lot of small details have been added to make it look extra special. The dress looks very similar to Rapunzel's real dress, I'd say the main (but still quite minor) difference is that the costume has a hooped skirt whereas Rapunzel's is more free flowing. However this isn't a disadvantage as it makes the dress look/feel extra elegant and more of a ballgown like the other Disney Princess dresses. It's different shades of purple and is mainly made of a soft shiny satin material. The top part is edged with white lace, has a bow and a pink criss-cross design to give it a corset look. It has puffball sleeves (which are purple with pink stripes) and thin purple netting which covers the mid-lower arms. The skirt half has a lined hoop inside which gives it a great effect and is also covered all around with a glittery swirl pattern netted overskirt (which also matches the glittery pattern on the top half). Around the back, the top half is a velvet-like material and has velcro tabs to fasten the dress. I quite appreciate the velvet material on the back as it means it doesn't snag on the velcro like it would on the satin. **Washing** The dress is made from 76% polyester/24% nylon and is machine washable. Many cheaper alternatives have to be hand washed or sponge cleaned so I was very happy about this. My daughter has splattered her dress in so many different things and I have washed it loads of times. All of the stains have been removed and the dress is still in good condition. I was slightly concerned that the glitter would wash off but it hasn't. The only slight wear has been to the top - some of the swirl pattern has started to fade. The hoop should be removed when machine washing but I have left it in a couple of times and it's been fine. It can't be tumble dried but can be ironed, although I've never found the need to iron it. **Overall** The Rapunzel dress is lovely, my daughter adores it and looks so cute in it! She loves twirling and dancing about it in. She wore it to Disneyland and was so excited to meet the princesses whilst dressed up as Rapunzel. She even met Rapunzel herself whilst wearing the same dress and was very happy that she liked it! She has also worn this dress on many other occasions - birthday parties, an ice show and even a royal wedding party! However most usually it's used for dressing up indoors. It's quite a durable costume, it's been in regular use for almost a year and is still in very good condition. The only wear is some fading to the swirl pattern (which I've already mentioned) and a few small snags to the skirt due to the material. It's easy to clean and scrubs up well. Overall I'd say this is the perfect dress for any litttle princess and is sure to please any young Rapunzel fan, as long as you don't mind forking out for it!
My daughter is really into princesses and when the Disney Tangled movie come out on dvd I was please to be able to pre order it from Amazon Uk. The movie is not like the classic story of Rapunzel it has a whole new twist to it, we all really enjoyed it. As I was going to Disneyland for the first time , friends had recommended purchasing our dressing up costumes in the Disney store here as they are double the price in paris and since Rapunzel was flavour of the month I had decided to get the costume. I found the Disney store version of Rapunzel costume was too expensive at £34.99 so I opted for the cheaper dress from Tesco. Tesco sell this exact Rapunzel costume complete with the braided head wear for £12.99 a real bargain in my opinion. The label states that it is an official disney item. The Rapunzel dresses start in size from age 2-3 years and finish in the size 9-10 years. My daughter is three and I opted for the age 2-3 years as this fitted her best , she is very petite for her age. The dress is mainly purple with light lilac coloured trim and ribbon and made from satin polyester material. It has short sleeves with elastic cuffs so they sit better puffed up on the sholders, the bodice has the ribbon criss crossing down the top half and a plastic badge in the centre of Rapunzel , this is glittery and colourful. The bottom of the dress floats out a little and has a mesh undercoat this seems to help. The dress is thin and mainly just for play dress up or games. The head piece is made from synesthetic blonde hair that's been braided just like Rapunzels own hair in the movie. At the top is a purple bow ribbon and a small tab of velcro. The way this attaches is awkward but you have put the plait around the head and secure both bits of velcro and let the rest of the braid hang down. There is no decoration on the head piece apart from a small bow and its very thin. Unfortnitly the head peice kept falling off as the velcro is not strong enough so my daughter ended up losing this on our trip. The dress can only be machine washed but must be air dried not tumble dryer or it will melt the fabric. I think the dress looks very like the Rapunzel character from the movie. It is of coarse a cheap version and is not as good quality compared to the Disney store version but this one is half the price. Money nor quality matters to my daughter she was happy enough just being Rapunzel. My daughter did wear the dress at Disneyland and got loads of comments from the princesses she was in heaven. I have washed the dress around five times now as it gets dirty easily and have no issues with it. I am so pleased with the dress I will recommend it.
After seing the fantastic movie "Tangled", my 8 year old daughter was really keen to get a Rapunzel costume. There are quite a few on the market at the moment, and prices vary greatly. The official Disney store version, costs £30, whereas Asda do a more reasonably priced one at £12. Unfortunately, when I went to Asda, they only had the very small sizes in stock, so I looked on Amazon where I found the dress pictured above, for £12.99 plus the postage costs, which didn't seem that bad. The dress arrived 2 days later in a flat parcel. At first I wondered how on earth the dress could be inside, but on unwrapping the parcel, I could see that the dress was quite basic and thin, and pressed against a thin sheet of cardboard. This was a bit different to the princess dresses that I have purchased in the past for my daughter, which usually had hoops or petticoats underneath, and were very high quality. This dress, in contrast looked a bit more like something you would get from a pound shop, and similar quality, too. My daughter was really happy though, and has been dancing around the house in it since Saturday. Today is Tuesday, and as I sit with the garment in front of me ready to review it, the first thing I notice is a small tear in the bodice, which I am going to have to stitch later before it gets any bigger. I really don't think that this dress is going to last very long! So, to a description of the dress itself. As I have mentioned, it looks very basic and poor quality. The one I saw in Asda was much nicer than this one. The label inside is an official Disney label, so I am surprised how shoddy this product looks. The main bodice of the dress is made from several materials. The front is made from two different shades of thin shiny satin polyester material, with the darker panel in the centre. There is a thin strip of lace on the collar area. Just below that is a picture of the Disney character Rapunzel, on a glittery background, surrounded by flowers. Two lined of shiny sequins criss cross over the front centre panel of the dress. The back of the bodice is made of a much more basic fabric, a plain purple stretchy fabric, that loks quite cheap and tatty in comparison with the shiny satin at the front. However, the advantage of the stretchy fabric is apparent when it is worn, as the garment is able to accommodate children of all shapes and sizes! The skirt part of the sress is made from the same satin fabric as the cenrtre panel of the bodice. It is very thin, and not lined, and does not even have an underskirt layer. I imagine this could rip or catch very easily during play. The type of fabric that it is made from creases very easily and looks quite rumpled. The sleeves are probably the nicest part of the dress. They are puffy, "Snow White" type sleeves, and have a thin, pink net material attatched to the bottom which extends doen to the elbows. The pink stripes on the sleeves look like ribbon, but are actually just printed on. The net part of the sleeves looks like it will also catch quite easily. The sleeves are elasticated at the top. The dress is sponge clean only, which is also a bit ridiculous, as these things will inevitably get dirty. My daughter likes to eat at the table when she is wearing the dress, and I know it is going to get grubby at some point. Also, if a child was wearing it to a party, or school book day, it would also very likely get dirty, so for me, it is really important that these sorts of items are washable. If it gets dirty I will be inclined to give it a gentle handwash and hang it outside to dry and hope for the best. A sponge is not going to get this clean! It also states that the dress is not suitable for children betwen 0-3 as it is a choking hazard. I can't work out why, as I don't know many kids who would be inclined to eat this! The dress also comes with a clip on braid, which is quite nice. The hair actually has a glow in the dark section running through it, which is a really nice touch (if you have seen the movie, you will know why). Again, I had quality issues with the braid, which was glued onto the clip. The braid came detatched really easily, and I had to glue it back on again. My daughter does really love the braid though, and wears it, even when she doesn't have the dress on. The clip has a cute yellow fabric flower on it. It is hard to know how to rate this dress, as it is VERY poor quality. However, my daughter loves it, and has worn it most of the weekend, and put it on as soon as she came home from school yesterday. The price is cheap for a Disney Princess dress (they were 60 Euros at the theme park), but in my opinion, £12.99 was still too expensive for the quality of the dress I actually got. If anyone out there wants a Rapunzel dress, I would reccommend the Asda one over this one, which is a much higher quality for the same price. I will award it 2 stars, but only because my daughter loves it. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go and mend it before she comes home from school....
