Advantages: it my birthday every day

Disadvantages: candles not great

My little girl was born at Christmas and when she was two whenever anyone asked her what she wanted for her Christmas she always said just a birthday cake. My mum wanted to get her a birthday cake she could keep, but just round plastic cakes did not seem very exciting.

On a visit to the Early Learning Centre, we came across their Cut and Play range, which included a pizza, fruit and vegetables, a baguette set, ice cream set and a birthday cake.

The Cut & Play Birthday Cake cost £8 from the Early Learning Centre store but if you wanted it for home delivery, you would have to add £4.95 to the cost.

The birthday cake is made of plastic and divides in to four parts and each part has Velcro on it so the parts can join again. In each section of the cake is a hole for one of the candles to go in to. You have to position the candles in the cake and they have to all be in the same direction, then you tip the cake in the correct direction, flames come up on the candles which you child can blow out. You lastly get a knife with the cake so your child can pretend to cut the cake up.

This is a very pretty little cake but because of all the pinks and pastel colours on it, I would say it is more designed for a little girl.

My little girl loved her birthday cake for Christmas and has had hours of fun playing birthday parties. Think she must sing happy birthday at least ten times a day.

In my opinion, this good little cake if you buy it from stores a very good price. The cake stands up well to the test of time and three children, we have had the cake for a year now and none of the parts have broke and the Velcro is still going strong.

The only down side to this cake is the candles as if you don't get them lined up right you will not get all the flames to appear, my little girls finds this hard and I am always the one who has to do the candles.

Summary: fun role play
