ELC Cut & Play Cake
Advantages: Great for role playing, looks pretty, great price
Before my daughters second birthday we went through all the toys in the loft that had once been her older sisters and we came across this cake which we felt would be appropriate for our daughter to play with.
We originally bought the toy cake a couple of years ago in The Early learning Centre, I can't remember how much we actually paid for the toy at the time but I have looked it up and at the moment the cake sells for £8 which I think is a decent price for the toy.
The cake is basically a plastic circle made to look like a cake, the cake is cut into quarters with little pieces of bright yellow and pink Velcro inside to stick the cake together. The cake is pale pink with white on top to look like the icing and has lemon and pale pink little icing mounds around the cake, I think the cake looks really pretty.
On each quarter of the cake there is a hole for one of four candles to fit into and they fit in nice and easily with a simple push. Also in the set there is a little plaque which says happy birthday on it and a pretend knife also in pink which your child can cut the cake with which of course is simply them separating the Velcro hidden inside.
The cake is fun to play with and my two daughters play with it together pretending it is one anothers birthdays, my youngest has also been counting to 4 using the candles and the cake portions and she loves sticking them back together. I like this toy as my daughter will play with her older sister with it but also on her own and is higly amused cutting the pieces apart to stick them together.
The cake is such a simple idea but it really provides amusement for young children, the cake isn't supposed to be for children under 3 due to small pieces but apart from the danger of them running around with a candle hanging out of their mouths I cannot see why a younger child cannot play with the toy.
Summary: Please don't eat it!
