When my son was three he was very much into dress up so my brother bought him the full Fireman get up - from the outfit to the accessory kit including helmet, fire extinguisher - the works!
The outfit was from Early Learning Centre and conprises the yellow trousers and black jacket. I believe this sells for £12 and it really is worth the money.
The fabric is very sturdy and doesn't feel like it would rip even under the biggest pressure of one child determined it was his turn to wear it! The trousers have an elasticated waist which makes them a one size fits all, and they have the silver reflective detail down the legs. The jacket has velcro down the front for easy doing up and undoing by even the smallest fingers, and again has the reflective stripes across the front just like the real thing.
The stitching is very safe and secure and the items are very well made.
ELC also do accessories for this outfit which can be sold separately and I would say they are all a must for any budding fire fighter.
My five year old son loves imaginary play. He is always dressing up as a policeman or a soldier, so I thought this fireman outfit would be ideal when I saw it in the early learning centre. The first thing that attracted me to this item was the fact that it looked really authentic. It certainly looks just like a fireman's costume with the black and yellow jacket. and high visability, yellow trousers.
To the touch the materials of this outfit. Felt thick and well made. It doesn't look cheap and the stiching is well presented. I was keen to check the seams and stitches as I have been caught before by cheaper versions of fancy dress clothes that rip on first wear. However, this costume did appear to be alot more robust.
The cost of this outfit was around £12. Which I believe is fairly reasonable for a fancy dress costume. You can get costumes alot cheaper from bargain stores. However, I believe that on most occasions you do indeed get what you pay for. The authentic appearance, coupled with the good workmanship, certainly made me feel that this costume was worth the £12 price tag.
My son was thrilled when he recieved this costume. He is an average size 5 year old and the costume fitted him well. There is an elasticated waist on the trousers, which not only provided comfort but was also easy to pull down when needing the toilet. The jacket was also very well made. I noticed that it gave my son plenty of room in which to move around freely whilst playing. The jacket seemed to have alot of strength within the workmanship. So no unsightly rips, despite, climbing and reaching within the game.
I also loved the fact that this costume could easily be wiped down with a clean cloth. Due to the shiny material used. So it didn't need to go through the wash all the time. This saved me alot of work.
What, I don't like about this costume is the fact that you have to buy the hat and the fire extinguisher seperately. I wish you could pay one price and have the whole set. I think when your paying £12 for an outfit it should atleast contain the most important part of a firemans uniform 'the hat.' I found this let the product down quite a lot. I was most disappointed in the fact that this set did not include a helmet. My son has a fireman's helmet already, but I am sure most little boys would be most disheartened to find their fireman costume has no helmet.
So in conclusion, I would say that although this is a lovely, good qulaity fireman costume. It does lose points because it has no hat and no accesories to promote the role play of the game. Which I feel lets the product down quite a lot especially when you consider the considerable price tag.
==Fire Fighter's Outfit From the Early Learning Centre==
Now having bought Jack the Early Learning Centre's Fire Fighters Helmet, I felt that the costume would not be complete if we didn't pay that little bit extra out to get the full kit! Now he does love to dress up and probably has far too many items of dress up clothing already but this looked so cute in the shop that I really couldn't help myself!
The Fire Fighter's outfit comes from the Early learning Centre but can also be purchased from Mothercare as they stock toys, games and the like from the ELC but it is all at the same price. We purchased this from the ELC shop itself and paid a price of £12 for it. This is more than I would usually pay for items such as these but the fact that you really do know that you are getting a good quality item when purchasing anything from the ELC and also the fact that we purchased it in a size which he would have plenty of room to grown into, I felt the price we paid was fair. I have however just taken a look on the Mothercare website and seen that there is now some money off this item and it is being sold at £9.60 pence which is a bit of a nicer price on the purse!
The Fire Fighters outfit is recommended for ages 3 years and over but I would say that it is still a little bit big for Jack and he is 3 and 2 months and there is still a fair bit of turn up on both the trousers and the jacket cuffs. Hopefully it should last him a good few years to come!
There are two pieces which make up the outfit and these are a fireman's jacket and a pair of fireman's trousers. The trousers have a nice elasticated waist which hold on tight enough round Jacks tummy without causing pinching and not too lose that they fall down. The trousers are made from the high visibility type of material and are an easy to clean wipe down type of material. The colour is a bright yellow with strips of illuminating silver, just like the real fire fighters!
The jack is good because it has Velcro fastening tabs down the front seam which Jack finds easy to fasten together and even easier to pull apart to take the jacket off. The jacket is made from the same wipe clean material which although not a nice cotton material does still allow the skin to breathe somewhat and doesn't make jack sweat too much. The main colour of the jacket is black but again it has the stripes of silver illuminating fabric along with a couple of the bright day glow yellow strips making it pair up with the trousers nicely. There is also a little screen printed on logo on the breast of the right hand side which says "Fire Department" and adds to the realistic aspect of the outfit.
Both the jacket and the trousers are made to a high quality and are not easy to tear or to damage on any way. They state that they can be machine washed on a very cool wash but I have found it easy just to wipe then down with a damp cloth as they do not seem to get overly dirty.
The outfit goes so well with the helmet we have also purchased and if you wanted to go the whole hog, there is also a little back pack and fire extinguisher which can be purchased to complete the set.
Overall, the outfit can get a lot of play out of it. It is hard wearing and although the price is not especially cheap, it is fair for the quality of the item. Jack loves dressing up in it and I think he just looks so cute in it, it makes me glad I bought it for him.
It has got to be a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a high recommendation!
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
