I bought this Sumo Suit a few months back, for a dress-up day at work! I, funnily enough, was the only person wearing this suit, but it still provided plenty of giggles for everyone at work. Although I looked an idiot, it was still a great idea!
The suit came, flat packed into a small rectangular vacuum bag. It came with everything needed, the suit and even a sumo hat. The only thing that wasn't included was the batteries to run the fans (4x AA Batteries). You slip the suit on, get someone to zip the zip up from behind and you can then inflate.
Inflation takes a tiny amount of time, less than a minute. The more you move around, the more air can escape. Around the neck, wrist and legs are pieces of thread which are used to stop air escaping.
Obviously, one size fits all, but for taller people the more ankle will show, that was the only problem I have experienced.
The suit is made from Nylon, so once it is fully inflated it can get quite hot, especially on a hot day. But to get around this bugging me I just let some air out every time it's full and it lets a bit of colder air in too!
I managed to purchase this suit from Amazon UK, which cost around £20, so is pretty cheap considering the price locally is around twice as much.
~*~*~ Inflatable Sumo Costume ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
The Inflatable Sumo Costume is an inflatable costume, it's made from 100% nylon and comes complete with a black nylon hat style wig. It comes a battery and fan pack which fits into the back of the costume.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
We were invited to a fancy dress party and whilst there are many costumes available for women there is little choice for men, we have previously been to a fancy dress party dressed as a gangster and his moll, so didn't want to do this again and I love a reason to buy new fancy dress so I told my hubby to have a look online for something he wanted to wear. He ended up on ebay where he found this for sale new in box and for local collection, so he popped it in the watch list and kept an eye on it over the four days it had left whilst looking at some other ideas. In the end he ended up being the only person to bid on this despite the clock at the bottom of the listing showing many views, so he placed a bid on the ending day and got it for 99p. I have to admit I wasn't too impressed as I thought he would just look like a fool but hey, it suits him haha!
~ Is it any good? ~
Oh yes! My hubby went along to collect the item, it turned out it was as local as we thought but it was still worth while. The people we bought it off said they had bought it the previous year for their eldest son and he had never bothered with it and that is why they decided to sell it, they also said it cost them the best part of £20.
Getting home my hubby put the box on the table and I was surprised by how small the box was, it came packaged in a box smaller than a shoe box, so I had to get it out to be sure of what he bought ... Or to be nosy. I pulled it out of the box and couldn't help but laugh, as I unfolded it I could see a pair of 'moobs' and a belly button so attention to detail is there! And the wig! It's not a hairy wig but a nylon hat style wig that just sits on your head as a hat would. Even when flat you can see that it will inflate to be quite large.
I got my hubby to put it on, which is in fact quite a simple task due to the zip and velcro opening at the back. I was pretty much in stitches at this point as to how redicilous he looked but I hadn't seen anything yet!
He placed four AA Duracell batteries into the battery pack and flicked the switch to on, after a brief quiet whirring sound of the fan kicking in the suit started to fill with air and inflate, in all it took about 45 seconds to a minute for it to fully inflate and I was hysterical with laughter! He just looked so stupid.
On the night of the fancy dress party he decided to wear shorts and t-shirt underneath the suit and he said that was more than enough as he didn't want to end up sweating as the suit is made from nylon and he said he would end up clammy and boiling!
My hubby said the suit despite making him about three times bigger was actually very comfortable and easy to walk in, he also said it was easy to sit down etc.
~ Overall Opinion ~
This was a big hit at the party, it had every laughing and was a good talking point. Despite them being quite popular nobody else was wearing one so my hubby certainly felt unique.
It stayed inflated all evening and my hubby said it was easy enough to get out of to use the toilet. My hubby stands at 5ft 11 and found that that the legs of the suit came down to his ankles fine, but I thought this should be mentioned as people over 6ft would have trouble in getting the suit down to their feet.
He said he felt fine all evening and didn't get sweaty, nor did he get cold.
I think this is a good suit as it will create a good laugh.
It can even be washed in the machine on a low temperature. Do not tumble dry though.
I may stick my hubby in this suit on Halloween to scare the children away, although I fear they may just laugh at him!
Thanks for reading :o) x
