“ Brand: Marvel / Type: Mask „
When my mum was asking me what my children might like for Christmas last year, I suggested that they might like some new dressing up outfits as both of them had outgrown the costumes we had. My mum went to Toys R Us to browse the costumes, and one of the things she picked up was this Thor mask. She bought the boys one each, and while I am not sure what she paid at the time, this mask is currently available on amazon at a cost of £12.99.
My boys were overwhelmed with presents on the day, so nothing really got played with for a while, but they love playing dress up so it was not long before the masks were being worn alongside the costumes they had.
The mask is actually a lot better quality than other masks that they have owned as part of dressing up costumes. It is made from a really thick yet flexible plastic. Inside the mask there is a rubberised section which sits across the forehead area and bridge of the nose so that it is comfortable to wear, and there are two velcro straps which run across the back of the head at ear level, and along the middle of the head. The shape of the mask made me think that perhaps it would be a bit brittle on the sides. Other masks we own have been damaged because they have been knocked in toy boxes or been stood on, but these are both still looking immaculate.
What surprises me most is how adjustable this mask is. My husband was wearing it for a good part of Christmas day, and it was as comfortable for him as it is for the children to wear. Although it looked a little small on my husband, it didn't look ridiculously small. It is a little big on the kids, but the way it follows the shape of the jaw, it doesn't look daft.
The kids will wear this for quite a long time while playing as it doesn't move around and irritate them at all.
The only negative my 6 year old son points out is that the cartoon version of Thor has white bits on the mask, where this one is all silver/grey in colour. This is rather a small thing though that only a true fan of the character would pick up on. My younger son had not noticed this.
On its own, I am not sure how good the play value is, but we have a Thor outift too so the two items work well together. They will put it on by itself, but they wear it longer when dressed up as well. My sons would love it if this had come with Thor's hammer too but personally I am glad it doesn't. This adds to the costume to make the child feel like they are dressed as Thor and to get into role.
The price is a little high really - for a little more you can get a whole costume rather than just a mask. However, I feel the quality is excellent, and my sons do enjoy this and it will last them for many years due to the adjustability. I think this is a fabulous dress up item and my boys do really like it and it looks good on. Its nice to own an item that is well designed for its purpose for a change.
