Minnie Mouse Costume
Advantages: Looks lovely, my little girl loved it
Disadvantages: Becomes worn far too quickly
For my little girls birthday she decided she wanted to go to nursery in dress up. While we were shopping in Tesco she came across this Minnie mouse puff sleeved dress and fell in love with it. The dress is a ball style dress that is three quarter length in size. It comes down past my daughters knees and the netting under the skirt makes it puff out like a princess dress. It is a warm pink in colour with white polka dots printed all over the dress to resemble Minnie mouse. Then on the front is a nice large picture of Minnie mouse just in case anyone was in doubt as to who you are dressed as. Also with the dress are some lovely Minnie mouse ears that are conveniently sat on a black headband. They are a fair size and my daughter thought it was brilliant she could wear the same ears as Minnie!
The thing that caught my daughters eye was that this was both a copy of Minnie mouse's dress, but it also has the netting under the skirt that in her eyes makes it a princess dress. She was over moon that she could mix the two together with this one dress and so we found it in the trolley. It was only £10 for the dress and the matching ears which are reasonable compared to other Disney licensed products. I cannot seem to find the age range these stretch to and from but in my local store they had them from age three years up to age 6 years. We purchased the age four to five and found it was a little bit loose on my little girl. Usually she wears a four to a five so it does seem to be large in proportions.
The material is good quality but it did look like it could be a little scratchy against skin. My daughter has never complained about any irritation, but she has always had a vest or t-shirt on underneath depending on where she is wearing it. I do feel you need something underneath it as the cutting around the neck and shoulders leave a little skin uncovered. As the dress is also short sleeved it will need matching with a cardigan or something to keep little one warm in colder months. My daughter decided to wear her new welly's with her dress, but she does like to swap for her princess dress up shoes to match the dress nicely.
It is fitted with elastic around the arms and top area of the dress so as little one can move around freely. It is a little big but because of the flexibility she was able to continue to play as she normally would. She really enjoyed wearing her Minnie outfit and although she never really pretended to be Minnie mouse she still loved spending her day wearing it. The thing I liked is that the ears are stuck on to a sturdy headband. This means that once I got my daughter dressed in the morning there was no need to fix an accessory that falls off ever five minutes. It stays put on little ones head without being a nuisance and sometimes she will forget she even has the ears on. The headband is light so it can be worn by little one for long periods, but still very well made in case it should be taken off by little hands. It fits my daughters head perfectly but it could easily fit a child a few years older as it is padded and has a little room.
The problem with this dress is it is hand wash only. I did try to sponge any dirt away from the dress but this resulted in making the dress look patchy and really untidy. I decided like so many other dress up sets I would put it on a low heat wash and hope for the best. Unfortunately even on a 30 wash the spots of the dress had began to peel when I removed them from the washer. Also the main picture of Minnie mouse on the front of the dress has began to crack so it really does look untidy. So if you do decide to purchase this dress my advice would be to sponge clean so that you do not ruin it.
My little girl still loves this dress but if the spots begin to peel anymore it will be unusable. Even with me hands washing this now the spots are still continuing to peels away and crack. She still wears it around the house but unfortunately not out to party's anymore because of the state of it. The Minnie mouse headband is still perfect and my daughter still insists on wearing her ears around the house at all times. She was disappointed that the dress had been ruined and has asked if she can have another for when we travel to Disneyland Paris. It was great for the short time we used it, and it certainly made my little girl happy on her birthday.
It is a very pretty in pink dress which when mixed with Minnie mouse was a huge hit with my daughter. It fitted her well and she was able to move around freely in it. My little girl is now four and still manages to spill juice over her dress, get chocolate all over it and generally get messy. It can only be hand washed and the dress can look very tired quickly. I would still recommend the dress as it would be perfect for a dress up party or special event. I put it in the washing machine causing the spots to fall off but if you hand wash it the dress will last longer than the time we have owned it.
Summary: An average dress up
