“ Brand: Sainsbury's „
Every year at Halloween my mummy friends and I have a Halloween party. Its been a tradition since the kids were babies and my little girl has had a few costumes now, this witches costume being the one she worn last year.
I don't really like to spend too much money on costumes for the kids as they usually only end up wearing them once or twice so Sainsburys is the perfect place to find them as I think this outfit only cost me about £8 if I remember correctly. With that you got the dress and also a witches hat. I bought some tights separately but these sort of matched the outfit and only cost me £2 so its a really good bargain and that year I was pleased with the quality of the outfit. This year I looked in Sainsburys to find a costume but was really disappointed with the quality of the outfits, the material was quite thin and there was not much choice so I ended up getting them outfits in Matalan but last year this outfit was perfect.
This dress was made of a shiny polyester fabric, it was never going to be a good quality dress but for a fancy dress costume it is perfect. There was a choice of different sizes, 9-12 months, 12-18 months, 18-24 months and then 2 years plus and so on and I think this went up to about 7 or 8 years so a good range of sizes. The dress differs a bit from the photo Dooyoo are showing as I think this was the dress Sainsburys had for sale a few years ago now.
This dress is mainly purple with shiny silver stars all over it . It just pulls over the head and so has no buttons or zips to do it up with. I think this made it really easy to take on and off and it doesn't matter if its a bit too big or small for your little one as it doesn't need to fit perfectly. As my little girl is quite small and thin I think the dress was a bit big for her but it really didn't matter. The dress had as elasticated panel over the chest so it fit well here and it also had short puffed sleeves. I like that it had sleeves as obviously your little one is going to be wearing it at the end of October so they need a dress that will keep them warm a little bit and not like the other ones you can get in the shops that have no sleeves which in my opinion are quite impractical.
The dress then has lots of bits of coloured mesh material hanging down from the skirt, green, purple and orange to give it a real witchey look. The hat is a stereotypical black pointed witches hat. It is made of the same polyester material and has a wide brim on it. It has a band of the purple material and the silver stars around the bottom of it so it matches the dress. It has an elasticated strap that goes underneath the chin to keep the hat on and it did work well for my little girl although how long does a little person keep a hat on??!!
The tights that I bought were black and orange stripey and worked well with the outfit and made my little girl look like a proper little witch. She got lots of compliments on the outfit and this was a really fun Halloween costume.
Halloween is one of the most exciting times of year for children (along with Christmas of course) and last year my little girl decided she wanted to be a witch. We had already purchased a pumpkin outfit in the sales the year before, but as she had her heart set on being a witch we decided we would purchase one for her. When we came across this costume while shopping in Sainsbury's and they had 25% off making it a bargain at six pound. With the set you receive the costume itself with a hat. You will need to purchase tights as in October the weather is cold, and I do not feel there is any way it could be worn without something to keep little ones legs warm. It is an all in one dress so it just slips over the head, and then of course the hat needs to be put on afterwards.
The dress is designed to look like a witch(no suprise there), and I think it is very pleasing to look at. With bright colours, a large collar and a hat to match it really is the perfect witch costume. Ours is identical to the one pictured above except it came in different colours. The dress we own is mainly black, but the sleeves are transparent with small pink bats printed over them. Then the skirt has pink and purple pleats that fall over the top of the main black body. The dress looks lovely, it has the dark spooky design you would expect for any good witch, but their number of colours thrown in to this costume to make it more appealing. This costume seems well enough made; the main body of the costume is very soft so it feels nice against little ones skin. The pleats of the skirt of this costume are a little scratchy to touch but as these are layered over the main body of the costume this does not come in contact with little ones skin so no irritation at all.
This costume is available in a large range of sizes, as young as 3 months old all the way up to (unlucky for some) thirteen so a lot of scope. We found that the costume was a little on the small size, not overly we purchased an age three to four years for my little girl who was two. The costume seemed to fit her perfectly but she complains a little that the arms were a little restrictive for her. She seemed happy enough dunking for apples, but at the end of the night she complained her arms ached a little from where the sleeves sat. I was a little worried as the hat looked large on my daughter, but it seemed to sit well on her head. It did fall off a number of times and so she decided to leave it off by the end of the night, but it definitely completes the costume. The large collar was a little annoying at times rubbing across my daughter's neck, but it did not cause any irritation and it is soft to touch. It can be folded down if needed, but it feels a little stiff so needs to be pressed down until it sits properly.
My daughter enjoyed wearing this costume, and loved to run around casting spells. She loved that there is a little glitter on the dress and kept telling me it had fallen from her casting magical spells. It was easy to get on and off quickly, simply by lifting it over her head. She won a prize at nursery for the best dressed witch at school, and she did receive a lot of compliments wearing it. I was worried as while it sat on the coat hanger it looked a little a little cheap as the pleats looked plastic. While on that completely disappears as the costume fits perfectly, and it really does look a lot better on. We have not washed this costume, as after Halloween my little girl was no longer interested in it and moved back to her usual dressing up outfits. I did give it a wipe down after use as my little girl managed to get chocolate on it and it seemed to come up well enough. It is hand wash only so cannot be put in the washing machine.
I would definitely recommend this costume as it is perfect for any little girl for Halloween. My little girl did only want to wear it for Halloween, and it is not something we have had much use of afterwards. The sizing seems ok but the sleeves are a little restrictive so I would maybe go a few sizes up just to be safe. We found the dress is long enough, and the hat is a good size but you will need to purchase some tights if little one is leaving the house. This is of course exclusive to Sainsbury's and although it retails at £8 you can find it on offer just before or after Halloween.
