I needed a laundry basket for my 3 year old daughter, so when I saw this in the local bargain shop for £1.99 I thought it would be perfect as she loves Fifi.
The cube comes flat packed in a little card and plastic packet. As soon as you remove it from the packet it pops open to its full size. It's 17 inches high, 11 inches wide and 11 inches deep. The bottom, top and 2 side panels are pink, the front and back panel are yellow. Each edge also has a small band of yellow trim.
The front panel has a big picture of Fifi on it, surrounded by pink flowers - it's very girly.
The top of the cube has a circular opening, 8 inches in diameter. There is no flap or lid on the opening.
The cube is made of a thin but strong kind of polyester - almost like tent material. For clothes and soft toys it's ideal as you can stuff lots in there without worry of damaging the cube. If you were planning on using it for hard plasitc toys you would have to be very careful as the material could easily be punctured.
For my little girls laundry I've found it ideal as it takes several days worth of dirty clothes no problem and keeps them neat and tidy. It has also helped make her more responsible for tidying away her dirty laundry as she loves putting her things in the Fifi cube at night.
If needed, the cube can be folded back down by using a twisting action.
The cube is not washable but can be wiped clean with a damp sponge.
For the £1.99 that I paid for this cube it has been excellent and is still going strong after 18 months.
I brought this for my sisters bedroom at a car boot a couple of weeks ago, I paid £1.00 for it and it was in new condition because the woman said she hardly used it for her grandkids because none of them was all that mad on Fifi and it was just taking up the room. I knew my sister would love it and the pink colour matches her bedroom walls so it was worth £1.00, I was thinking about it for a washing basket for her but it's roomy inside so she's started using it to keep some of her toys in instead of squeezing them all into her toybox.
I'm going to call it a toybox in this review even though that isn't specifically what it's for, it's a mesh basket that is held together with a flimsy wire frame. It can be put away easy, you just twist the whole thing into a kind of figure of eight and then it will collapse in on itself to be put away flat. Then when you want it out again your just untwist it and pull it all back into shape.
The design is lovely, 2 sides of the toybox are pink and the other 2 sides show Fifi standing up like she does in the actual Fifi logo. Those sides are a nice bright yellow colour and I think it would definately look better in a girls bedroom.... even though I know a few little lads who love Fifi as much as my sister does. Being mesh it makes the toybox nice and bright looking because there is no heavy fabric lining, I think it looks mega pretty and I would have loved something like this when I was a little girl.
The toybox is very light weight so when it's empty it can easily get knocked over, that doesn't matter because it's not going to hurt it but I think it would have been nice if it had a bit more substance to it. I know you'd have lost being able to fold it up so easily if it was made of thicker or heavier material but it feels so light that a gust of wind could blow it away. Another thing with it being so light is that once it's even half full of clothes or toys it makes it feel a bit weird to carry because the mesh bit on the bottom stretches down so you end up carrying it like a flid because you're worried the bottom is going to go through. It's not, it's just the give of the mesh that makes it feel like that but I definately don't feel confident moving it around.
There's more room inside the toybox than there looks and my sister has moved more of her toys than I thought she was going to over from her main toybox to this one, at first she just used it for her Fifi toys but now there is loads of stuff in it. It's like she's aware of it being more flimsy than her wooden toybox because she only puts soft toys in this FiFi box and is always very careful not to put anything sharp in there. She tried to see how many toys she could get in it once and the sides swell out so it holds a lot more than you think it's going to.
My sister loves this one because she can easily tip it over and get her toys all out at once instead of having to keep leaning into her other toybox and even then never quite getting to the bottom. Even now she's going off Fifi a bit she still loves this toybox and it was definately £1.00 well spent, it's a million times better than a rubbishy pop up basket she had of Dora last year and I remember that cost a lot more and the wire started poking out after a week. I think this one won't have that trouble because the stitching is dead strong where there is any chance of the wire coming through like in the corners and stuff, it's actually very well made and I think it will last for ages.
I bought this about a year ago from my local woolies (sniff!) when my little one was at the height of her Fifi phase! Initially it was great for storing her toys, all those bits and bobs at the end of the evening that you can't be bothered to sort properly hide away in here really well! Since though as her Fifi ohase is passing I have started to use it as a laundry basket for her room, it holds loads of kids clothes and is easy to carry downstairs when its full as it has two handles and you can just squeeze the top together. I wasn't sure how sturdy it would be as the sides appear to bend really quite easily but is has stood the test of time after repeated flattening by my little girl and her friends and still springs back into it's original shape. I do think this is good value for money especially considering I have had mine for over a year now and it could still just about pass as new!
As youve probably become aware from my reviews, my house is a little Fifi World !
This little gem follows through with our Fifi theme yet is useful , quiet, takes no batteries, is one piece only (no little bits to loose) and fits into small corners!
The Fifi and the flowertots compact cube pop up tidy is avaiable at Amazon at just over the £5 mark which gives you free postage. I bought mine from Woolworths (RIP) about a year ago for £4.99
Its made of nylon and is pink and yellow. Two opposite sides are yellow with a picture of Fifi in her signature dungarees and wellies, and the two remaining sides are plain pink. The top is open and doesnt have a lid or a flap to hide whats inside.
It arrives flat and does just as it says - it literally pops up !
When open it measures 40cm high by 29cm x29cm.
It s recommended for ages 2+
To be honest when I first opened mine I was really disappointed. I thought it was tiny! But in actual fact its just a good size for a toddler to be able to reach her prized possessions at the bottom.
Also any bigger and it wouldnt be as easily portable if full as it is now.
Ive just emptied ours to measure it and am suprised at the 26 items its neatly storing not to mention Ive just found a missing remote control !
Use this nifty, light little item to store toys as we do or laundry perhaps?
Initially I purchased this item to use as a dressing up box but over the year all sorts get thrown in.
As its just open top, clearing up time is easy as it all gets thrown in!
Folds back flat when not required. As my daughter grows out of Fifi I shall move this into the shed to store garden toys.
Pops up and folds away in seconds
