Watercoloured Floral Bulldog Clip
by xd-o-n-z-x
I bought this clip after receiving a similar one as a gift. This one is identical to the one I had for Christmas, but is a different design. To look at this is very attractive; it consists of 'watercolours' making up a 'blended' flowery pattern. It's very girlie.
I always used to wear clips like these when I was younger - but ... the plastic brown ones you get. When I started my job as a waitress a number of years ago, I wore the 'plastic brown' clip and because I was running around all day, my hair kept coming undone and falling out of the clip which was annoying.
However, I was pleased when this clip actually held my hair in place and now I wear it to work every day.
The clip is made from a metal material and is quite strong. However, I am still careful as I know that clips like these can easily break. This clip is very sturdy and has had a lot of us and yet it is still going strong. I have noticed that due to the fact that the clip is made from metal, it has got a number of scratches on it, although you can't notice it when you are wearing it - only when you look really closely. I have had my clip for around 6 months now and I have had a lot of use from it.
I am not very good when it comes to styling my hair, plus the fact that I have hair that doesn't want to do as it's told. When I wear this clip (in fact I think this is the only way you can wear it, but I might be wrong?) - I put my hair into a 'low ponytail' and then clip the 'tail' to the back of my head.
I have dark hair and so I think that this clip really stands out. Many people have commented on how pretty my clip is which is nice. When I'm at work, we have to wear a plain black uniform and so I like that I can 'brighten' myself up a little bit with this little accessory.
I was amazed at the price!! I paid £2.99 for this clip and not only does it look great but it is of excellent quality too. In the past I have paid around £5 for a similar clip and they have broken straight away!!
I would definitely recommend this hair clip!
Thanks for reading!

Her Curious Nature Black Woven Alice Band
by zombieflesh
I must confess that recently I have become severely addicted to watching the TV show Gossip Girl. I've been devouring the past series' on DVD and it is a true guilty pleasure! My favourite character has to be Blair Waldorf and I love her style, especially the cute headbands she always wears. This has inspired me to start accessorising my ... outfits with headbands and when I saw this one in the www.ASOS.com sale I couldn't resist buying it.
This Woven Alice Band is made by British brand Her Curious Nature, and I liked the way that they style their items to bring together both vintage and modern elements. It originally cost RRP £22.00 but it's now reduced to £9.00 via asos.com.
Product description: "Beaded hair band by Her Curious Nature. Hand made in London. Featuring a wide black hair band with a tiny bead-embellished finish and grosgrain covered tips."
I like that this headband has quite a classic and traditional looking design. It is a simple Alice band with a wide section that shows off the beautiful beading detail. The headband is only available in black but that was perfect for me as it blends in well with any outfit. Even though the beads are black they have a brilliant shine to them and really catch the light, which draws attention to the headband, and also helps it to stand out and still be noticeable against my black hair. The beading runs over the whole of the outer section of the headband and easily adds a glamorous feel to any outfit. I have worn this more often than I had originally expected to, as it not only works well with evening outfits and swanky dresses, but also looks good when juxtaposed against my usual urban / grunge daytime looks.
The Alice band itself has a nice wide body and slightly thinner ends. It is quite firm and does not flex much as the structure of the inner materials help to keep it in shape, and also provides a good grip. This means that it stays in place perfectly without budging as I'm moving around, which is a relief as it's annoying to have to keep re-positioning hair accessories, and this one does the job of keeping my hair tidy without moving at all. The underside of the headband is finished with a plain, smooth fabric so that it does not snag or catch against the hair when worn. One feature that I had underestimated was the grosgrain covering at the tips of the headband. This simple touch makes it incredibly comfortable to wear as there is no rubbing or pinching against my skin.
I am really impressed with the quality of this headband and there is clearly a high level of craftsmanship gone into producing it. Each piece is handmade and finished to perfection, with simple but essential design elements ensuring that the headband not only looks good, but is comfortable and easy to wear. I would happily buy from this brand again, and would recommend this headband as a quick and simple way to add a touch of sparkle to any outfit. Read the complete review |

Pieces Dottu Mock Ostrich Jeans Belt
by zombieflesh
Like most girls I love clothes, and I just can't seem to stop myself from placing regular orders with online super-retailer www.ASOS.com. I came across the Danish brand Pieces while browsing on this site and instantly became a big fan of their designs. I now have quite a few items by them as their style seems to really fit in with the ... different looks that I like to wear. I bought this Pieces Dottu belt for £9.00 last year, but it is no longer available in stock via ASOS.
This belt is available in sizes S, M, and L. I have the S size and would say this is best suited to UK size 8-10. It comes in a choice of two different colours; either "cognac", which is a rich, warm brown tone as shown in the picture, or "black", which is what I opted for. The belt is a faux leather effect and is made of 100% PU.
I really liked the simple style of this belt, with the plain colour and slim width making it easily wearable. The belt fastens with a standard buckle but this is also quite plain and has no decorative touches. It is a dull brass toned metal which works nicely against the darker colour of the faux leather. The material does have a slight patterning to it as it is meant to resemble ostrich leather. It is covered with small dimple marks which mimic the appearance of ostrich skin. I do love the look of ostrich leather but don't really have the budget to afford the real thing, and this is a nice imitation piece.
I have worn this belt practically every other day since I bought it 10 months ago, and love that it has proved to be such a practical and versatile accessory. It does its job well and fastens securely to keep my jeans in place so they're down sliding down over my hips every time I move. The only issue I have is that the holes for fastening the buckle are simply punched through the faux leather and are not reinforced in any way. This has meant that over time as I have been wearing it, the holes have weakened and started to stretch. This wasn't too much of a problem until recently and now the fastening that I use most frequently has stretched so badly out of shape that the material has started to tear towards the edges of the belt and the end length is left hanging by just a few threads. It hasn't quite broken completely, but it is incredibly close to falling apart so I can no longer wear and I had had to throw it away. I've got so much use out of it that I am happy with the price I paid and think it was good value for money, but it still feels a little disappointing that it's worn down in this way.
Overall, the Pieces Dottu belt is a great buy for its simple, stylish design and the imitation ostrich leather adds a nice touch of detail. I love the look of this belt I think it looks great and is suitable for wearing with any sort of outfit. For a faux leather piece it has lasted well enough although I wish it had reinforced sections on the holes so it could have suffered less wear and tear and not needed replacing so quickly. I would still recommend it and would probably re-purchase if it was still available, but I've chosen another Pieces belt as a replacement and this time it has reinforced holes so hopefully will last me for a while longer!
