Advantages: Cutting edge styling, Very light with an excellent fit, Crystal clear optics
Disadvantages: Price
Im a great fan of Oakley, although I only have the one pair of their sunglasses, the Straight Jackets. Oakley simply make some of the best sunglasses in the business, light, strong, and sublime styling at the cutting edge of design. The Straight Jackets are certainly no exception with a range of colours and frames available. I have a silvers frame with blue flames coming out from reflective 'ice' lenses. There are about twenty different coloured lenses and around 5-10 different frame options for the Straight Jackets. The Straight Jackets, as with all Oakleys are built to perfection and the hinges etc. feel solid. I do alot of mountain biking which certainly knocks you about at the level I ride and these have not so much as slipped. This is thanks to the rubbery grips that lock behind you head keeping the glasses glued to you head. Also sport wise they provide a good range of vision, although if you are buying sunglasses specifically for sport the M-frames and several others are a better choice. Despite being locked to head the Oakleys are so light and so well deigned after a few minutes you hardly know your wearing them. The optics are crystal clear as you would expect. On top of the standard lenses available for those who usually wear glasses who don't like contacts are perscription lenses. If you want to know for what strength the straight jackets are for about -4.0 to +4.0. Oakleys have the general warranty for build quality, but I'm not sure exactly how long, more than long enough though, if you know please let me know and I'll upgrade this opinion. Oakleys as you probably know don't come cheap, and the Straight Jackets are no exception. Expect to pay around £125 for a pair of these. If your considering perscription lenses these generally cost a steep £70-100 more, and be sure to buy these from Oakley and not get them fitted elsewhere or you'll void you warranty
. Over the top you might say, but I reckon as a one of buy they are worth it, though make up your mind, especially with the state of British weather at the moment.

- 16/01/02 I got a pair of Square Wires, about 2 years old, the optical resolution is amazing. I looked after them as they recommend, putting them into the bag etc, but there is still a tiny scratch on the lens, which was disappointing. |
