New Look Blue Floral Belted Bandeau Maxi Dress
by kiss_me2070 I love summer (when we have it) and I love wearing maxi skirts and dresses as they look really summery and are also nice and cool to wear. I recently got rid of 2 maxi dresses I had due to them being slightly too big under the arms revealing my bra a fair bit. That left me with one strapless maxi dress in a beautiful bright blue colour. ... I was browsing in my local New Look store a few weeks ago for something specific that I saw on their website (not a maxi dress) and this particular maxi dress caught my eye due to the lovely colour of it. The Dress = = = = = = This dress is a blue bandeau dress which means that the dress has no straps which makes the dress perfect for summer as you won't get tan lines from straps. The dress is blue in colour and has a beautiful floral pattern all over the dress in different shades of blue. Although the colour of the dress is mainly a light blue colour there are hints of lighter and darker blues in amongst the floral pattern which covers the dress. The dress also comes with a woven tan waist belt to break the dress up slightly. I don't normally purchase flowery things, how-ever I loved the design of the dress and the colour of it so decided I would give it a chance. At first I wasn't really sure if this was too flowery for me, as I tend to live in plain coloured tops and dresses, so I thought I would make a change and actually purchase something that isn't plain. I have to be careful when buying maxi dresses as I find that some can look rather unflattering and make me look rather large in comparison to the size I actually am. I decided to try the dress on before purchasing it so I could see what it looked like. I loved the look of the dress in the fitting room but decided I would buy it to try on at home where I could get a proper look at me wearing it. If I didn't like the dress I could easily return it the following day. After posing in the mirror at home in the dress for a good 5-10mins I decided that I would keep the dress as it didn't make me look frumpy or big and it would lovely during the summer months (if we get them!). The dress is ankle length so may not be suitable for shorter people. I am around 5 foot 5" and I find this dress the perfect length and doesn't drag on the floor which is good as it means the bottom of the dress won't get dirty. There is an elasticated band which sits further down from the bust line which gives the dress a nice, slightly gathered look in this area. Although I am normally a size 8 in tops I actually purchased a size 10 in this dress as I found the elastic on the size 8 dress slightly too tight. The top of the dress also has an elastic band around it so there is very little chance of the dress falling down (unless you have purchased a size too big!). The dress feels extremely smooth and slightly silky to the touch so I was expecting this to feel nice and light against my skin when wearing it. The belt that comes with the dress is a nice design and I find that the colour of the belt goes perfectly with the dress to break the pattern and colour of the dress up slightly. On the New Look website they suggest pairing the dress with some cork wedge sandals for an evening look. As this dress is made from 100% Viscose it means that the dress can be machine washed but must be left to dry, rather than putting it in the tumble drier. Price/Availability = = = = = = = = This is available to purchase in New Look stores and from their website which is www.newlook.com. The dress comes in size 6 - 20 and is priced at £22.99 which I think is reasonable for this dress. Wearing the Dress = = = = = = = = = = I have only managed to wear the dress once or twice due to the lack of sunshine we have been having. The fit of the dress is actually very nice and although it's loose it doesn't make me look frumpy. The two elasticated bands at the top of the dress help to hold to the dress up and in place. I don't find this too tight and it's actually really comfortable. The other band which sits just below the bust ensures that the top of the dress gives a good shape around the bust area. This is also where the belt loops are for the belt to go through. I always wear the belt that comes with the dress as I think it looks really nice. Although the belt is quite small and doesn't have many holes in order you to fasten the belt it's comfortable to wear with the dress and doesn't feel too tight. You could always take this belt off and add one of your own to it. I tend to wear sandals with the dress and I find that it looks nice and summery and the dress doesn't drag on the floor. When walking up and down stairs I do need to hold the dress up a little otherwise I would end up tripping over the bottom of the dress. I have worn the dress on reasonable sunny days and I find that it's really cool to wear and I didn't get too hot in it despite the dress being almost floor length. The material to the dress is really nice and light and when sitting down I didn't find the dress sticking to the skin on my legs which can sometimes happen when sitting down for long periods, especially in the pub! The dress looks really summery on and it also makes me feel really summery when wearing it. The dress looks beautiful with a small cropped cardigan or even a light coloured denim jacket if the weather turns a little chilly. The dress isn't clingy which is good as I know a lot of people feel uncomfortable or self conscious when wearing clingy or tight clothes. Despite this being loose fitting it doesn't make me look big of bulky or bigger than I actually am, in fact I actually think the dress is really flattering. As I have only worn the dress twice for a few hours down the local pub on a weekend afternoon I haven't washed it as I didn't think there was any point. (I'm not one of these people who wear something for a few hours then washes it). Overall Opinion = = = = = = = = This dress looks better on than it does in the hanger in store. The colours to the dress are beautiful and I love that it has different shades of blue in the dress as well as some white to give the flowers some detailing. The dress is really comfortable and in fact it's probably one of the most comfortable maxi dresses I own when comparing it to my other one that I own which I also purchased from New Look last year. In terms of value I think the dress is very reasonable as it's well made and made from lovely printed material. You do also get the belt with the dress too which also makes it good value. I definitely think this dress is one of those dressed that would suit most people, despite their size or shape. The only down-side to the dress is that it may not be suitable for shorter people due to the long length of the dress; how-ever you could always get the dress taken up slightly if you really like the dress and want it. I would definitely recommend this dress to others as it's beautiful, summery and really comfortable. I am now hoping that I get more chances to wear it. New Look Boyfriend Cardigan
by Sassy29 I am a cardy and jeans kinda girl. Anything that is comfortable and not too clingy is right up my street. If you were to take a peek in my wardrobe you would probably find 50 plus cardigans in a wide range of colours. I usually wear cardigans rather than jumpers as they are easy to remove, without messing up your hair, you can have them ... open if you are too hot, whilst still keeping your arms warm and you can wear a nice top underneath which can still be seen when the cardigan is open. I have this particular cardigan in three different colours: black, navy blue and grey. I purchased mine around Christmas time from £12.99 from New Look. I think the quality of this cardigan is good, I have worn mine too death and they are still in very good condition. I have found some cardigans to start getting bobbly after only a handful of washes but this one is still bobble free. Also the colour has not faded at all and I have probably washed this at least 30 times. It has kept it shape very well unlike other cardigans I have had that have either shrunk or stretched in the wash. Once this cardigan has been washed you will need to iron it unfortunately. Normally I just hang up my clothes or fold them, but this cardigan can look very creased if not ironed. There are two pockets at the front, I do not put anything too heavy in them as they don't seem to be very strong and are likely to stretch easily. The material is 96% Viscose, 4% Elastane and is comfortable on the skin. The cardigan is quite thin and I would say perfect for Spring and Summer. When I wore mine in the winter I always made sure I was wearing a coat as if I only had the cardigan on alone then it would be too chilly. It is very plain with no pattern on it apart from a boarder/rim that runs around the neck and the front of the cardigan. This cardigan hangs very nicely and sits just below your hips. It looks great paired with jeans and is long enough to wear with legging. I normally wear a plain vest top under my cardigan which looks nice. The reason I purchased this cardigan was so I could wear it to work but it is perfect for any casual look. I also use it a lot on a nights out and when I just need something to cover my arms. I hate carrying around a jacket and this squeezes into my hand bag perfectly once I have finished using it. This is a great, stylish cardigan which doesn't break the bank. It fits really well and I love it so much I bought three of them. I love New look clothes especially their jeans and cardigans. I find their clothes to be reasonably priced and good quality. I would recommend this cardigan as it is one of my favourites and it comes in a wide range of sizes and colours. I think the only way they could improve this cardigan is if they made it a little thicker and the pockets stronger. Read the complete review |

New Look Red Pink and Blue Aztec Cut Away Crop Top Top
by kiss_me2070 Aztec/Tribal print is very in at the moment and it's also a print that I am very fond of. I normally go for plain clothing rather than printed or patterned tops/skirts, etc. I love some of the clothing that is currently in shops with the Aztec print on so I thought I would buy something that would look in trend and in fashion this ... season. I don't normally follow the fashion but this was one that I liked. The Top = = = = = The top I am reviewing is from New Look and is a cropped top in bright colours which include red, pink and blue. The top has a lovely tribal/aztec print on it in black which makes the top less plain looking and the print goes perfectly with the colours of the top. The top is a cropped top so larger people may not be comfortable wearing this top. The top is sleeveless and has a button at the top on the back which helps to keep the top in place when wearing it. The top is availanle to purchase in size 6- 14 and can be purchased from the New Look website or in one of their stores. The top is priced at £9.99. I saw this top online, which is where I purchased it from as my local store didn't have the size I needed. On the New Look website they suggest wearing it with a khaki utility jackets and high waisted jeans for a stunning fesitval style. I wouldn't be wearing the top with these particular items but would find something in my wardrobe to go with it. The top is made from 95% Polyester and 5% Elastane so does have a little bit of stretch to it, how-ever not a lot so if you have a large chest then you may need to get a bigger size in the top in order for it to feel comfortable. The colours on the top are very bright and I love the way that they all merge together. Although I never normally go for bright colours I thought this would look great with some jeans or a maxi skirt, espicially during the summer. I wouldn't normally wear bright coloured clothing but I just loved the colours in this top, espcially the pink and the blue which gives it a lovely summer feel. I am normally a size 8 in clothing, how-ever I found that this top did come up a little tight so I purchased a size 10 which felt more comfortable to wear. It also meant that the top didn't look too tight across the bust area either. Wearing the Top = = = = = = = = = When putting the top on I noticed that the way the top is cut means that you can see your bra straps so this top does look better with a strapless bra. The top was easy to fasten using the single button at the back of the top. The button is sewn on very well so there is very little chance of it coming off or the top of the top coming un-done. How-ever if the button did happen to come off whilst you are wearing it the top would definately not fall down anyway and would still look as good from the front. I think the button at the back makes the top slightly more fitted and it makes it look nice from the back as it leaves a small hole in which you can see some of the top of your back. I like wearing this top during the day with a colourful maxi skirt as it looks really summery and also very feminine. I have had a few people comment on how nice the top looks and how it looks great when worn with a nice maxi skirt. I don't find the top too tight and i find that I don't get too hot wearing it either (probably due the small amount of material). The top can be machine washed which I do on a cool wash and the label also advises you to turn the top inside out as well. I have washed the top once and I have that it comes out looking just as bright as it did when I first purchased it. The black tribal pattern on the top is still intact and hasn't worn off or started to crack either which is good. I find that the top dosn't take long to dry on the line on a day where there is a slight wind, alternatively this can be place on a radiator to dry as well, although I prefer hanging clothes out to dry in the fresh air. Overall Opinion = = = = = = = = I absolutely love the colour and the design of this top and it is currently my favourite top. Although I have only been able to wear the top once due to the rubbish weather we have been hoping I am hoping I will get chance to wear it a lot more when/if the weather warms up. In terms of value I think the top is very reasonable as it's good quality and the material that the top is made from isn't too thin. I think the top looks best with a maxi dress but it can be worn with a number of different outfits to create a look for either day or night. I would definately recommend this top to others, espicially if you like bright colours and print and don't mind showing off your tummy a little. I suspect over time and with regular washing the colour will eventually fade. I can't think of any faults with this top. (review may also appear on ciao) Read the complete review |
