When I bought my All Saints Belvedere Leather jacket I was expecting it to be lovely and soft. As with leather handbags and shoes, the feel is very important to me. This jacket is stiff and unyeilding. I just hope it will soften up over time.
As much as I generally despise spending more than £50 on any individual piece of clothing that is not a floor length dress, or any clothing from Allsaints for that matter, this is one total exception to the rule.
The jacket, bought new in store is an eye watering £250. Naturally I didn't pay this much for it as, lets just say I have some nice friends at thestore who were willing to give me a substantial discount. I ended up paying a grand total of £60 - an absolute bargain. However, as most people don't have a generous friend who happens to work here, it can be bought for the full price, or at around £150 on eBay. And as surprising as it may seem, this is actually one of the cheaper jackets in the Allsaints range - there are some which cost £275 and some £290!
~ The quality ~
The jacket appears to be made from some fabulous sounding leather - Black Italian Goatskin Leather to be precise - which is relatively durable (not that I've tested this too rigorously) and keeps me dry in the rain. It also is quite warm, the lining is a soft fabric. One complaint I do have is the sewn on label. When I wear a top which goes up to my neck its fine, but when I wear a tank top of something similar underneath, it can feel a little scratchy.
~How it looks~
To sum it up, it looks absolutely fabulous! The front of the jacket is an asymmetrical design, and there are some buckle fastenings which you could use to fold the leather over you neck when it gets chilly, which looks pretty cool, though I prefer to leave the neck open. I've received several compliments whilst wearing it, and have been asked where I bought it - though never mentioning the price I paid ;). The jacket is quite versatile in what can be won with it - jeans, leggings, skirts, even some dresses. As long as its not overly hot, it can also be worn in the summer. Apparently, it was designed to have some biker jacket features, but I rarely zip the jacket up so I never notice this.
Quite good. The jacket actually has some zip pockets, so you can be safe in the knowledge that something isn't going to slip out of your pockets. I tend to avoid putting things in the pocket though because it is very obvious when you do, and it makes the jacket look swollen. Also, I wouldn't trust the sizing enough to buy it online - although I'm usually a size 8, I had to buy this in size 10. Go in store just to double check.
To conclude, the jacket is an excellent, high quality piece of clothing But I wouldn't buy it full price, as I wouldn't be willing to pay that much. However, if you do have a big enough disposable income, I wouldn't give it a second thought - it would be in my wardrobe within seconds.
