This American Apparel Jersey Skirt really is a girl's best friend! It comes in an assortment of colours from rainbow brights to more sombre and neutral colours, which is great as I can team my navy version with a shirt and still look fashionable but modest and serious for a work interview and then go crazy at the weekend or a night on the town with my girlfriends in my bright orange version, which I team with a lace body. I paid in the region of £26 each for the 3 skirts I own. I do think this is quite excessive for a skirt that is essentially a small bit of jersey material with an elasticated waist, however, at the time of buying my first skirt, I couldn't find anything similar at all on the high street. Despite dipping into my student budget, I think the amount of times I have worn all 3 of the skirts has made it worth the money in the end. After seeing Alexa Chung wear the grey version with a blazer, I made it my mission to get that same skirt and take tips from her style, which I am a big fan of. The skirts go with absolutely everything and are so versatile and made even more brilliant by the fact, you can wear them with a different top over and over again, without anyone batting an eyelid or realising you were recycling your wardrobe in such an efficient way. I would recommend this skirt to anyone who likes the high waisted style, as this would be a perfect wardrobe staple for you. I own the navy, moss green and bright orange versions, having bought the navy instead of the coveted grey, as it was out of stock. I think the quality is good, and the price is in line with all of American Apparel stuff (which I personally feel is on the steep side). However, I do not mind spending a tiny fortune on what I perceive to be a wardrobe staple that will see me through for ages and is versatile. After a year of wear, the navy version did become slightly bobbled, but was still totally wearable as it was quite indiscreet. I would also not recommend if you don't like really short skirts, as this skirt does tend to ride up quite a lot, so you have to tug it down quite frequently. And finally, I personally feel the skirts do come up quite small, so I would definitely suggest trying one on, before purchasing, if possible.
every girl needs this skirt in an array of colours in her wardrobe (i recommend a dark heather grey or navy in particular). This is such a great looking and versatile skirt it can be worn many ways such as long slung, high waisted, as a swing top or made into a makeshift dress. The beauty is in the simplicity, it is super flattering & comfortable but very pretty with cute pockets which due to being super deep are actually quite functional. Despite being a little pricey for a simple skirt you get enough wear and versatility out of it to more than make up for it. the quality is also great, I have had one of these for around two years, wearing it loads and washing it normally but it hardly looks worn or damaged. Only con I can think of is the price but to be honest it really is worth it. this is the skirt to have and to love!
American Apparel obviously originate from America, so it's generally more expensive in Great Britain. This skirt in particular is £25, which you may think of as expensive. However, in Topshop, they would be selling for at least £28, so it's not as bad as you think! This skirt comes in soooooo many colours, there's always a new addition, but the most popular are black, dark grey and navy. They're soft, flattering and VERY comfortable. The waist band isn't too tight or loose, and sits nicely above the hips. The pockets give the skirt a practical approach (great for cold hands and keys,) and also a cute look, reminding me of school. The skirt is so versatile. It can be casual, worn with just a t-shirt, or with a blazer and a shirt for a smart look, or heels and a vest for a dressy one. You can wear it so many times, with so many looks, but it still looks brand new. The sizing is a bit different to the UK, I would recommend a Small for those who are 8-10 UK and a Medium for 12-14. They are not too short and fall nicely half-way down the thighs. To stand out, go for a bright red, it'll really get you noticed!
