Advantages: The same price as normal tights: quite comfy - but are they too good to be true?
Disadvantages: They just didn't work for me!
December 2000 Dear Diary, As a long-term sufferer from cellulite (note to men: that's the stuff women moan about incessantly, that makes the backs of their legs look a bit like orange peel in mild cases, or the cratered surface of the moon in a more severe example), Christmas may have come early... Yes - I have just bought six pairs of tights which promise to magically improve the state of my wobbly skin by imparting micro-vitamins as I wear them! Hoorah! In the interests of medical science (and fellow sufferers), I plan to describe my experiences with these tights over the 21 days it's meant to take to transform my legs into Claudia Schiffer's.. Day 1: OK, the Aristoc Slimline System tights do not claim to give you supermodel's legs, but they do claim clinically proven improvements in 21 days of continuous wearing. And before you panic, you don't have to keep the same pair on for 21 days (yeuch) and neither do you have to wear them overnight. I was very excited this morning putting them on (I don't get out much!!) and they're like normal tights, black, 15 denier, with a bit of tummy control in them, and they feel quite soft. At £4 each, they're only what I'd pay for normal tights anyway... Day 2: I didn't notice much difference last night, though my skin felt quite soft but that might be psychological. The tights come in a big plastic box, with little bags for each of the six pairs, so you can 'file' them away and use them in rotation. Very scientific. The microvitamins stay effective for three washes.... Day 3: I checked the packet today, and it said that I should see the first improvements after 10 days. I must confess (well, we're all friends here, anyway!) that my cellulite is a sore point. I never lose weight from my thighs, ever, and they're not a pretty sight on the beach: I have probably got the worst case of it of all
my friends. So there are two possible scenarios regarding the wonder tights: one, I am a lost cause or two, if anyone is going to show improvements, it ought to be me. Day 5: I had nothing to report yesterday. I've nearly finished the six pairs in my Slimline System pack, so ended up handwashing the others, apparently this preserves the micronutrients or whatever so they stay effective for longer. I do like the tights themselves, but so far, no transformation. Call me naive for expecting one, but I like to dream. My skin on my legs does seem fairly soft, though. And I suppose I am less than a quarter of the way into my very un-clinical trial! Day 10: There hasn't really been much to say, and today I got fed up wearing tights all the time and put trousers on, so I guess Aristoc could say that invalidates my whole trial (could wear them to bed though I suppose). Now I'm afraid so far I have noticed NO difference. My legs are still are lumpy and large as ever. Much to my disappointment. The tights are lasting ok though.... Day 14: First big ladder in my tights... and they're all showing big signs of wear after one or two washes. Sorry guys, but I'm getting disenchanted. And still no signs of improved pins. Though I really wish they had looked better, given that the ladder was so disastrous I had to take the tights off and wander round with bare legs looking like a hooker until I could buy some more! Day 21.... Boo hoo, my legs are as fat and bobbly as ever (what an attractive picture!) and I'm afraid that they didn't work for me. I didn't wear them every single day, but even so.... and they're not especially durable. So it's back to exercise and the Rosemary Conley boring diet for me...

- 18/02/01 How disappointing!!! If only they worked!! Oh well, back to the drawing board eh? I need the kind of swimsuit that goes down to the knees! |

- 04/02/01 lol that opinion made me laugh! I always fall for these 'miracle cures' too. In an attempt to reduce the size of my legs I am cycling, walking, dieting and daily electricuting myself with one of those dreadful Rio Slim Gym type things! |

- 10/12/00 Good point, Feathers... though I suppose the same ought to apply to all those miracle creams that are meant to slim your thighs...
I guess the message is - if it's not on prescription, it probably doesn't work... but I'm carrying on for now! |
