“ Brand: George / Type: T-Shirt „
Change in weather means a change in wardrobe. Im not in a position to have major splurges on fashion because by the time I know it September will be here, and in the meantime I have uniforms to buy and things needed for the home. One of the great things about shopping in Asda is having a good look around the George section for cheap, cost effective clothing items. I picked this up ( on two separate occasions ) for £3.00. I have this top in both black and white.
Why did I buy it?
I bought the black version because I needed to wear all black to attend a course, and I wanted something cheap and cheery as I didn't want to spend too much money. Also, it was the height of summer last year, so short sleeved was perfect to keep me cool.
The white version I bought because I was going to iron on a transfer onto it to attend an event and the transfer would stand out better against a white background rather than any other colour. Also, I generally didn't want to break the bank on this purchase.
How does it look?
This is a short sleeved rounded neck top. All in one colour, no patterns, just plain. All of the top has plenty of stretch and give to it, but more so around the neck area as there is added support and it feels more elasticated than any other area. This is good in regards to taking it on and off over the head.
The top itself when worn sits just above the hips. It is fitted but not too tight, and hugs the right areas such as chest and waist.
The neckline comes down just at the right point, so allows you to be modest in look but still shows the neck area nicely while covering the chest.
How to wash
30 degrees. Wash similar colours together. Iron on a medium setting.
How does it perform?
Both of these tops have performed well. The black one is the one Ive worn the most and had the longest. But both are a decent thickness. Stitching is great and neat. No stitching has come away or been unpicked for whatever reason.
They are very easy to wear, and feel very comfortable on. Quite light weight so perfect for this weather. This is one of those tops that goes with everything, not just because of it being plain and one colour, but because it doesn't draw attention so if you wanted something more busy on the bottom half of you, you can do that with ease and not be worried about clashing.
It does have a good stretch to it, but it retains its shape well before, during and after wearing. Great top to wear underneath something else. When the weather was a lot cooler, I would put the black version under an oversized jumper I had because it was a v neck and was a very low cut v neck jumper, and this covered all my bits appropriately.
This top washes well and dries very quickly. The black top doesn't look as crisp in look and sharp in colour as it did when first bought, but black tops tend to be like that anyway! Its still black though-and not grey! Still the same shape and no obvious fluffy or fizzy bits.
Would I buy this again? Yes I would. It's a great top to have in the wardrobe for a casual look or can be jazzed up abit depending on the rest of the outfit, jellewery, jackets etc so very diverse. This is a good quality and affordable top that they have been selling and made available for year on year.
Would love to try out another colour!
Review of Asda George Cotton Scoop Neck T-Shirt
As I am sure many people will know, George is the Asda own label of clothing.
I purchased a couple of these t-shirts towards the end of the summer. I was in dire need of some new T-shirts as I had lost around 3 stones in weight and most of my clothes were getting too big. I did not want to pay the earth as I hope to continue losing weight! At a modest £3.50 each, these t-shirts were most definitely cheap and cheerful. Asda stock these wardrobe staples in a wide range of colours and sizes. I believe the size range is from 8-24, so there is something for most shoppers.
They are a simple scoop neck style with short sleeves and a smooth finish to the fabric. I am a tall build, being 5'9" and I find the t-shirt sits at a good length on me. The hem is well below my waist line which I like, as I am a bit self-conscious about my flabby tum, even after losing some weight!
I chose a 'safe' black t-shirt and a rather nice blue/grey; both were chosen to go with denim jeans, which seem to be my everyday usual attire! That said, the T-shirts do go well with almost any item of clothing. I have worn them with skirts too and am currently wearing mine under a lightweight jumper as an extra layer on colder days.
I have found that these t-shirts wash and wear very well indeed. The fabric composition is 50% Cotton, 50% Polyester. The t-shirts are machine washable at 40 degrees and can be tumble dried. A warm iron is recommended, although I do not bother. Actually being a bit of a rebel, I don't iron anything, I gave up ironing 15 years ago and as no one has noticed yet, I have no intention of taking up the task again! But I digress!
My t-shirts have kept their shape beautifully, they have been washed and worn many times since purchase and I am pleased to note that the fabric has not bobbled or piled at all, neither have the seams twisted or stretched, something that I have found with budget priced t-shirts in the past.
In fact, I have been so pleased with my t-shirts that when Asda were having their end of season sale, I snapped up two more of these t-shirts, one in white and another in a deep aqua as they were half the usual price which made them even more affordable. I also bought a couple in navy blue for my 13 year old grand-daughter to use as school sports T-shirts at the same time. Hers are a size 8 and they fit her well, loose enough for ease of movement during her P.E. lessons, yet not too oversized or overly baggy.
My only criticism of these T-shirts is that the sleeve length is slightly odd on me. The sleeve hem sits rather high on my arm, too long to be a cap sleeve, yet not quite long enough to be a true short sleeve. As mentioned I am a tall person, obviously having long arms in proportion to my height, so possibly on a more petite frame the sleeve might well be more acceptable.
The T-shirts seem to be true to size and wash and wear better than some more expensive garments I've bought. True they are not high fashion, neither are they particularly exciting in style or design, but as a bog standard wardrobe staple, I would recommend these to anyone as they really do represent wonderful value for money.
Thank you for reading.

This is an ideal basic soft t shirt that's great just to stick on to go down to the gym or for a run. As it's a scoop neck it's really feminine and summery so also looks great matched with jeans or shorts for a casual look. I got mine purely to wear for jogging as it's getting warmer weather now and i wanted a thin, lightweight t shirt; this one was ideal.
I got it in my local Asda (instore) for £3.50. There was lots of different colours and sizes of this style t shirt, all at the same price. Sizes started at an 8 and went up to 24, and the colours available were black, camel, purple, green, red, grey etc. I chose the grey, which is lovely and light and not dull like most people would think when thinking of the colour grey.
The top as i said before has a scoop neck (not too low) and is in the style of a basic everyday casual t shirt; it's nothing special and is nice and simple. The sleeves are the usual t shirt length and fit well; they don't flap around when i'm running like some t shirt sleeves do. The t shirt is true to size and fits me well, i'm a size 8 and got a size 8 and it fits like a glove which i don't mind but perhaps if you want one a bit looser i'd reccomend getting the next size up to your actual size, or simply try on different sizes instore.
I also love this t shirt because it covers my bum (only just), so i'm able to wear it with leggings without worrying every detail of my bum is showing lol.
I was a bit hesitant at first paying the £3.50 price tag when there are £1 t shirts available in shops like primark, but as soon as i saw how good quality it was and the fact it was 100% cotton, making it nice and soft, i decided the it was worth the extra couple of quid.
Although the t shirt's quite thick, it's still nice and lightweight but keeps me warmer than my usual acrylic primark t shirts. As mentioned before i use it for running and even though it's a light colour sweat doesn't show up or make the t shirt damp. (gross i know!)
Washing the t shirt is easy; it's fine to be washed in the washing machine and tumble dried and fine to ironed.
Overall reccomended; extremely versatile, comfy and a great quality wardrobe essential.
Just recently my local Asda store has started to try and entice us to their clothing section by placing a few hanging garments by the door as you enter the store to try and grab your attention. I spotted these t-shirts in a huge variety of colours including yellow, red, green etc and at £3.50 for such a smart looking top I bought one without even visiting the clothing section (sneaky Asda!).
Out of all the colours available I actually opted for the colour on the top of this review page which is like a slate greyish blue. Made from pure cotton it is quite a thick and well made, a smooth t-shirt with a rich colour pigmentation to it and of course it is suitable for machine washing and tumble drying (I have had no issues with this at all by the way) and it comes in sizes 8-24 both in store and from the Asdadirect.com website.
Its long lined, has 1/4 loose sleeves with a not very low rounded scoop neck that sits against the skin nicely and I opted for the size 12 in this for extra comfort thinking the 10 on the hanger in store looked a bit small for me however I had to take the size 12 back and exchange it for a size 10 as it is very true to size!
Comfy, with give in it...I like the length (just comes above my bum) of this and love the fact none of my wobbly bits get displayed when wearing it either! Its well made, double stitched in places and easy to care for and wear and I'm so pleased with this plain t-shirt I shall certainly be buying a few more just as a cheap but smart options to wear this summer!
Only available in Asda stores.
