“ Brand: Asos / Type: Jeans „
Like most girls I love clothes, and I just can't seem to stop myself from placing regular orders with online super-retailer www.ASOS.com. I needed a few basic pieces and this was my first calling point when I needed to buy a new pair of jeans. I spotted these Coated Skinny Jeans and figured they would do the job nicely. They were originally priced at £35.00, but I got them in the sale reduced to £21.00.
The reason I chose these jeans is because I wanted a plain black pair of jeans, and particularly like the "coated" finish which adds a little individual touch to make the jeans seem smarter. The coated finish essentially forms a waxed look which covers over the fabric, and most times will be matte but sometimes comes with a shiny version as well. Even though the jeans I bought were described as black, I must admit I felt a little disappointed and misled by the description, as the jeans actually have a deep indigo colour, and the black colouring is only from the coated finish. This means that essentially the jeans just look dark blue with darker sections, rather than the plain black colour that I would have preferred. Overall I did still like the look and the style of the jeans so I kept them and have been wearing them frequently throughout the year.
I particularly like the cut of these jeans as they are very flattering to my body shape. They have a normal fit around the waistline, which is surprisingly hard to find these days as most jeans seem to have a lower cut and sit around the hips. They are comfortable and practical to wear without any fear of the back slipping down, although there are belt loops all the way around the top edge and can be worn with a belt if required. The legs are very slim fitting and can be a little tricky to put on and remove because of this, but once they are on they really hug tightly to my legs and the skin-tight finish looks great. The length is also spot-on for what I need, as they are long and remain fitted all the way down, and the length works well when worn with either flat shoes or heels, as well as tucking into long boots easily as there is no excess fabric around the lower legs and ankles.
The jeans are made of 98% cotton and 2% elastane, although I do not find them to be particularly stretchy. I had an embarrassing moment when I slipped over in the street, and because I was carrying shopping bags in both hands I didn't manage to break my fall, and landed straight on the kerb knee-first. This caused a slight tear which went right through the fabric, and has eventually started to fray a little, but other than this small accidental rip the jeans are quite durable. The fabric has quite a tight weave and you can see where the coated finished has been applied. It seems to be thicker in some areas such as around the pockets, and has begun to rub away in some patches through the usual wear and tear as I've had them on. In particular, the fronts of the thighs and the knee area are showing quite a lot of wear to the coated finish, and the denim underneath shows through quite prominently, which is a little odd as the rest of the material looks darker. They are machine washable although it is recommended to turn the jeans inside out first, and I have been doing this in an attempt to help protect the coating.
Overall I think the design of the jeans is quite smart and they have a nice skinny fit. The dark colour makes them versatile enough to wear with many different outfit options, and the only downside is that the coated effect has started to come away in some areas. A nice pair of jeans that look good and fit well.
