“ Brand: Asos / Type: Dress „
So as if it isn't totally obvious already ASOS is just about my favourite place to shop. I used to hate online shopping because of delivery charges and never knowing if things would fit right or look as they do in the pictures. Then I got into shopping at ASOS and that all changed. For a start they deliver and return items for free and secondly they not only provide great full size and zoomable photos they also have catwalk videos that give you a real idea of what something will look like. I pretty much order all my clothes from them nowadays because I am a student with a long distance boyfriend and a few different jobs - I don't have much spare time to go shopping!
This dress caught my eye roughly this time last year because I was looking for a christmas/new year's eve dress and wanted something comfortable, flattering but that would be dressy enough to last me through the festive season. This dress has a really flattering style and shape to it, is made from an expensive looking and feeling fabric but is totally affordable (even for a student).
The dress is essentially a basic wrap dress. It has 3/4 length sleeves, a wrap over v neck and a flared out skirt. The wrap part of the dress is sewn in place so no fiddling with annoying straps or ribbons. It also has a stitched bow detail which sits diagonally across the front under the bust.
When I first ordered this and tried it on there were a couple of main issues with it. I hated the bow for one but soon discovered that I would easily snip this out of the dress by cutting a few threads and without damaging the look or fit of the dress. I found the bow a bit big and a little over the top, without it the dress looks far more refined and elegant. I also found that where the two wrap parts of the bust overlap there was nothing holding them in place and as such it meant you ended up flashing people. Much as I love flashing I decided this probably wasn't the best idea and put a simple stitch where I wanted it to keep this a little more demure but still with the right amount of cleavage.
Once I had made the alterations the dress was just perfect. I really love the look of this dress, the fabric is like a viscose kind of feel to it - slightly silky, very soft but firm and not stretchy. It does need ironing when you want to wear it to achieve the best look but otherwise it is really handy and very flattering. The style is also really suited to me size 10/12 hour glass figure, and definitely flattering for ladies with an ample bust like myself.
I ordered my first dress in a size 12 and in the navy colour as I thought this would be the most versatile colour of the bunch. About half a year later I discovered this dress was in the sale and so decided to snatch it up in the other two colours - a beautiful rich red and a lovely pale nude colour. I still think the navy is the most versatile but I love owning it in a few different colours as I can loads of use out of this silhouette that I love.
The dress originally cost me £35.00 which is probably on the more expensive end of the dresses I usually buy. That said I did get quite a bit of wear out of this dress and was over the moon with the price. Since then it was reduced to £24.50 and so I bought the other two colours too. Though I have yet to wear these ones I am thrilled with the price because this is a dress I will get years of use out of and one that looks more expensive than it really is.
Overall, this is another dream dress for me and an absolute steal.
