Advantages: super warm and cosy, long soft faux fur, nice pattern
Disadvantages: they make your hands look HUGE!
Like most girls I love clothes, and I just can't seem to stop myself from placing regular orders with online super-retailer www.ASOS.com. I went a little bit crazy for faux fur accessories over the winter and purchased myself a nice snug headband, and then found these awesome mittens to match. They are part of the ASOS own-brand accessories line and cost RRP £15.00, although I managed to snap them up in the sale for just £4.50.
Product description: "Fur mittens, featuring classic slip-on styling, an all-over long hair faux fur with a contrast dalmatian print and a full lining."
Shell: 61% Acrylic, 26% Polyester, 13% Modacrylic
Lining: 100% Polyester
These mittens have a gorgeous faux fur outer section. The fur is really good quality with a long plush pile. The fur feels really soft and looks really striking thanks to the contrasting black and white dalmatian spot print. The black and white pattern is very bold and stands out, but the simple colours mean that they can be worn with any of my winter coats and add a nice touch of detail. I also like tucking my hands inside my coat pockets so that just the cuffs of the mittens peep out, as this gives a cute look like the fur is actually attached to the sleeves of the coat.
The mittens are lined with a fleecy feeling fabric and they also seem to have a layer of padding to add further insulation, as they are very thick. This helps to keep my hands extra warm even when the weather is freezing cold. The wrist section of the mittens comes in a little to give a tighter fit against the wrist and block out draughts and breezes by forming a close fit over the sleeves of my clothing.
I adore these mittens as they are the warmest, plushest mittens that I've ever owned and the faux dalmatian print fur is uber cute, but they do have one down side. They are absolutely massive! I couldn't get any idea of scale from the photo on the ASOS website (pictured above) and when I received them I was a bit surprised to say the least. They are not large as in too big or badly fitting on the hands, but more that the layers on lining and long plush fur seem to make the mittens look overly bulky. I'm a tall girl and think I can just about get away with wearing these massive mittens, but they would look ridiculous on someone more petite as they would be completely out of proportion.
Due to the nature of the fabric these mittens are Dry Clean Only. I haven't had any need to get them cleaned yet, although I do make sure to brush the fur through each time before I wear them so that the pile lays flat and stays in good condition. I use a small metal hair comb for this purpose and it works just fine without pulling out any strands of the fur material. This keeps my mittens looking great and avoids ending up with tangles or clumps in the fur.
Overall I think these mittens are great because they are so well made and the materials feel lovely. They are super warm and perfect for wearing through the cold winter months. The only problem is that they are a bit on the large size and are verging towards being more of a novelty item rather than a practical fashion accessory. I'm happy with them for the price I paid and would recommend them to anyone who likes to stand out and have fun with fashion!
