“ Brand: ASOS / Type: Designer Wear „
I used to be addicted to ASOS.com a few years ago, browsing the website every night and knowing almost every item that they stocked.
I am not as big a fan these days, but I still have a soft spot for the website and tend to put orders in a few times a year.
~ Price and availability ~
This dress cost me £12.50 in the sale reduced from £35.00.
I bought it in green, but red and black versions were also available.
The dress is currently out of stock on asos.com, but it often comes up on ebay.
~ Appearance ~
The dress is chiffon with a soft 100% polyester lining.
It has a sweetheart neckline and then has lace in the same colour, which goes up over the shoulders like vest straps.
Behind the neck the lace comes together from each shoulder and there is a single button fastening.
There is a large triangular shaped opening in the back and below it is more lace until it reaches the elasticated waist, which is quite high.
Having so much lace and a big hole in the back, you can see the straps if you wear a bra with it, but you could probably get away with a black strapless bra if you had the black dress as the lace above the elasticated waist would help to hide your strap.
The dress falls just above the knee.
~ Wearing the dress ~
I have only worn this dress a few times. It is not one of my favourites and not one I reach for as a regular day dress.
Because of the inconvenience of having to wear a strapless bra or no bra at all with this dress I tend to wear it when I am going out on a night time rather than a regular day dress. I don't think it is very dressy though and I have worn it a few times when going out for a meal with my other half, but have never worn it for a normal night out, meeting friends for drinks etc.
I don't always wear dressy dresses when I go out, but if I was going to go for a bit more of a casual look I would rather wear something a bit more comfortable and convenient.
I think the red and black dresses look more dressy than my green one and I was tempted by those colours as well and I'm not sure why I ended up buying it in green.
I bought this dress in a size 10, which is my usual size and I found that it fits well. Having an elasticated waist and no zip fastening I feel that I could have even gone down a size.
The dress feels comfortable to wear and isn't too tight anywhere. It has a flattering shape, flaring out a bit at the waist.
I have found the button on the back needs to be undone to get the dress over your head, but I can do it up myself when the dress is on as the button is just behind my neck.
I have found that it washes well and comes out looking as good as new once I've run an iron over it.
~ Conclusion ~
I like this dress, but I don't love it and it wouldn't be a miss if I removed it from my collection.
It is rather inconvenient not being able to wear a bra with it and the look of it is too casual to justify such an inconvenience.
I bought a similar dress from ASOS in black, without the big hole in the back, not long after I bought this and I much prefer it
This dress is comfortable, a flattering design and it looks and feels good quality. I bought this at a very reasonable price of just £12.50 in the sale, but I'm not sure if I will bother to wear it again.
I knew when I bought this dress that it was backless so it is my own fault really, but considering the fairly casual look of this dress, the green one anyway, I think I am being fair in giving this dress just 3 stars.
~ ~ Introduction ~ ~
I order regularly from asos.com and I am very happy with the offered service, the variety and the quality of the products. I usually buy dresses, accessories and handbags and I always find great offers on the products that I like. I purchased this dress two weeks ago, for £15.75 (the RRP was £35.00). I had a 50% discount from the original price plus an extra 10% off that I got using a promotional code from their promo e-mails. Currently, it is on the "up to 70% off" sale and it costs only £12.00.
The dress is available in 5 colours: black, cream, pink, green and neon red. The available sizes are from UK 6 to UK 18 but some sizes and colours are already sold out. The black and the neon red versions were my favourites but my size wasn't available in red. So I ordered size 10 in black colour. According to my measurements and the size guide, I should be wearing UK 12 because I have wider hips but my real size is 10 for all the dresses that I've purchased so far.
~ ~ ASOS Skater Dress With Lace And Mesh ~ ~
It is a sleeveless black dress with lace details from the ASOS collection. It has a loose fitting on the top and the skirt is in A-line. However, it can be worn with a thick waist belt to create an even more flattering slim waist.
The top of the dress is covered with black lace. The lace has a beautiful embroidered floral pattern and a black strapless fabric section is attached under the front lace layer, from the bust until the waist line where the skirt starts.
The back of the dress has the same sheer lace design, leaving the skin uncovered underneath. The lace fabric is semi-transparent, light and flimsy so I am wearing the dress with a skin-tone bra in nude shade.
The skirt is double layered. The external layer is a black sheer mesh and there is also a polyester inside lining in the same colour. The inside lining is a bit shorter than the overlaying mesh.
~ ~ Details about the dress & the design: ~ ~
* scoop neckline
* sheer lace back
* fitted waist
* full mesh layered skirt
* mini cut length
Product Code: 150313
The top main body of the dress is made of 100% Nylon and the skirt is also made of 100% Nylon. The lower part lining is made of 100% Polyester. Although it's synthetic, the material is very soft and comfortable.
The care label says that it should be washed with similar colours in the washing machine and it should be ironed on the reverse side.
~ ~ My opinion ~ ~
I bought this dress because this cutting flatters my silhouette and because the lace is a top style in the winter's fashion trends. When my order arrived, I was really pleased with the nice design and the fit.
The loose fitting is easy to wear and a "safe" choice for me when I shop online, because I am confident that it will look nice on me. I have small waist and wider hips, so this dress fits well on my body type and makes my figure look thinner. Additionally, it's reasonably priced and I am definitely going to wear it a lot this winter.
The dress slips in and out very easily. The waist line is elastic and it doesn't have a zip closure. The length of the dress is great, it's not too short or too long for an evening dress and it's ideal for a Saturday night out or a party. The sheer lace design on the back is very sexy and elegant, and it puts my back on show in a classy way. Also, the cutting is great and the dress is very beautiful and comfortable.
I wore the dress on Friday night at my friend's birthday party and I think it was really pretty because I had some nice compliments. :)
~ ~ Summary ~ ~
I think it's a beautiful dress, appropriate for different body types because of the loose fit. It's a great dress for my nights out and it can also be worn in formal occasions if it's styled with the right accessories, shoes and a glamorous updo hairstyle. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and this dress has earned 5-stars from me!
