“ Brand: Asos / Type: T-Shirt „
Like most girls I love clothes, and I just can't seem to stop myself from placing regular orders with online super-retailer www.ASOS.com. I came across this top in the sales where it was reduced from the RRP of £30.00, although looking back at the site now I believe it has sold out.
Thanks to the huge buzz around the Olympics in London this year, a lot of the summer fashions have been taking inspiration from this event and adding a modern, sporty edge to daywear and evening outfits. This top caught my eye as it had an unusual design and I liked the neutral colours paired with a bright flash of neon pink. The top is a bit of a "mullet" affair - business-like at the front, and party-time at the back! The top has two sections made out of different fabrics, with the front being a lightweight smooth navy blue material, and the back section a pale grey marl jersey material. There is some additional detail with a deep V cut out at the back, which is embellished with neon pink elasticated straps going across from side to side. This not only stops the top from falling down, but it also adds a fun touch to an otherwise quite plain top.
I wouldn't really call this a t-shirt (although ASOS have) because it is not cut in the same way as a standard t-shirt design. It has a straight across boat neck cut at the front, and has a loose fit with wide arm holes. I purchased this top in my size, and it falls very loosely over my body with lots of excess material to give an over-sized look. This is great for keeping cool in summer and is comfortable to wear as it allows for freedom of movement. However, because of the cut away section at the back and the deep arm holes, I feel the need to wear a fitted vest top underneath to make sure my bra isn't visibly hanging out. This sort of layered look works well and I usually team it with a plain white top underneath to give a good contrast with the bright pink straps. The only real problem I have with the fit is that it can be somewhat awkward to cover up with an extra outer layer, and if I want to wear a cardigan or jacket over the top for a bit of extra warmth while I'm out and about then the fabric of the top bunches up and feels a bit lumpy because of the excess material that gives it the loose fit.
Thankfully this top is machine washable and I always throw it in on my usual 30 degree cycle. I was a bit concerned that the colour could possibly bleed out because of the dark navy front section and the pale grey back section, but it has not caused my any trouble at all and comes out looking as good as new every wash. It is a very easy garment to care for and as an added bonus it doesn't seem to retain any creases after being hung out to dry on the line and so as soon as it's washed and dry it's ready to wear again.
This is a great top that I would recommend, as it's comfortable and has an easy casual style that is very wearable. It's well-made, easy to care for and suits this summer's sporty fashions.
