In my opinion, there's no such thing as having too many vests as they are such a basic wardrobe staple. Vests are essential really and they can be worn in so many different ways. I don't normally buy vests from Topshop because there are cheaper alternatives in Primark and New Look etc, but these basic strappy vests, unlike a lot of Topshop clothes aren't actually too overpriced.
These basic vests retail at £6 each, which for Topshop branded clothing is a bargain. I managed to get mine for £3 each in store as they were on the sale rack, but I'd of happily paid full price. The vest is available in two basic colours - black or white. I decided to get both as like I said, you can never have too many vests!
These vests are very simple in design - the vest is obviously sleeveless with thin 'spaghetti' straps. I normally prefer thick straps as I find the thin ones quite flimsy, although because the straps on these vests are made of normal fabric rather than being elasticated, they're fine and they stay in one place and keep my bra straps covered. I always make sure that I wear a bra with thin bra straps with one of these tops, because the straps are so thin and it doesn't look right when bra straps are visible in my opinion. The vest could be worn over a bandeau though too or a strapless bra.
The vests have a deep scooped neckline which is quite low cut. I have quite a small bust and I find that the top doesn't fit particullary well around this area and it does need adjusting quite a few times as it droops a little in the middle of my cleavage, yet it fits fine around my stomach and hips. I always find myself looking down and realising that the top is showing way more than I'd of liked, which is a downside and this is why I usually only wear it around the house, or layered under a blazer/jumper/cardi. If I do wear it on its own, I usually wear a bandeau so that I don't feel concious that i'm showing too much cleavage!
The top is stretchy and it feels a bit like a bodycon vest. Because it's stretchy and the material is quite thin, it means that it is quite sheer and a coloured bra/bandeau can be seen through it slightly. I've also noticed that even my belly button is slightly visible so clearly these vests aren't the best quality, although despite the 'visibility' issues the top is soft, comfortable and it looks pretty nice on as it clings to all the right areas. The material is cotton (100%) and the top washes well and it dries really quickly too as it's so thin.
The top is easy to style as it's so versatile and it is best suited to casual wear. This is a nice summer top because of the lightweight material, but it can be layered under a cardi etc in colder weather. Sizes avaialble range from six to sixteen and I'd reccommend getting a size bigger if you don't like skin tight tops, as these are designed to be well fitting. Length wise, this vest comes down to the waistline of whatever trousers I am wearing so it isn't very long and I'm only 5'3 so on taller girls it'll probably be almost cropped. Overall, reccommended - 4/5.
For as several years now I have brought vest tops to sleep in rather than buying actual pyjamas, I cant even remember how I got into wearing them for bed but I find them so much more comfortable and they also go with anything you do not need to keep them in a set and they are cheap to buy. I usually ask for some new vest tops to sleep in for Christmas and this year was no exception as I was finding that some of my older ones were getting a bit shabby. I please pleased to find two vest tops to sleep in inside my stocking this year, these were Top Shops Basic Strappy Vests.
The Top Shop Basic Strappy Vest is what the name suggests a basic vest top, it has quite a low rounded neck and very thin straps, the straps come down and join the top of the neck line and continue as an edging around the whole of the top of the vest taking in the front, back and under your arms. The straps are just the right length so that the top sits quite low but without being 'too' low, I hate sleeping in tops where the neckline is so high around your neck that you have to keep pulling it down, on the other hand I do not like tops that are too low that you wake up flashing a bit more than you would like to be, so far I have had no trouble with the length of the straps at all, the vest sits in the perfect position for me. The straps are not elastic like some other vest tops I have tried in the past, again I quite liked this idea as it meant that you do not have to worry about the elastic going and them becoming loose, with there being no elastic in the straps I do not have to worry about them becoming too big.
The Basic Strappy Vests are made from 100% cotton, the fabric is actually quite thin which makes this top ideal for the warmer summer months or to wear under jumpers. The thin material also makes them ideal for me to sleep in, I will happily sleep in a vest top during the winter no matter how cold it is, I would rather have a duvet and blanket over me in bed to keep warm than wear a thick long sleeved top, I hate feeling trapped in thick layers of clothes, I find in these vest tops I feel free to move about, the thin cotton fabric also allows you to keep cool, ideal for the summer.
The fact that the vest tops are 100% cotton makes washing them very easy, there are no real special washing instructions they can be washed at 30 or 40 degrees, I just do mine on whatever temperature the washing machine happens to be on at the time, the label suggests that you reshape whilst drying. Mine have been washed on several occasions now and so far I have been very impressed, I literally put mine in the machine with whatever I am washing at the time and leave to dry on the radiators, they have not lost their shape at all, they still fit perfectly and look in excellent condition, some vest tops I have had in the past become baggy after several washes, this is not the case with Top Shop Basic Strappy Vests, the have remained fitted just as they were when I received them. I find that by wearing the vests to sleep in they are washed more regularly as they are worn more often so for me it is important to have vest tops that will withstand quite a lot of washing, this is certainly the case with these.
I received two Top Shop Basic Strappy Vests for Christmas, one in black and one in white, I would say that the white one is thinner than the black one and feel that this may be better for layering. The vests come in three colours, white, cream and black there is not a large range of colours but they do have the basic colours that would go with pretty much anything no matter what you choose to use them for, although I use these vest tops to sleep in I would wear them as a regular vest top with jeans or a skirt in the summer and they would be ideal to take on holiday. The tops come in a range of sizes as well including size 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16, I have found the sizes to be very accurate, my parents brought my regular size in these tops and they fit perfectly.
The vest tops obviously come from Top Shop and are sold for just £6.00 each which I think is a bargain, they are currently on special offer of two for £10.00. I would certainly say that they are worth the money, the tops are of an excellent quality for such a cheap top. Whilst you do not get anything fancy with these vest tops they are very versatile making them excellent value for money, I have definitely had my moneys worth out of mine.
I would definitely recommend the Top Shop Basic Strappy Vests they can be used for a variety of occasions whether its for casual wear, layering or like me to sleep in they are the ideal top to have around. They come in colours which will go with pretty much anything. The tops are also very cheap at just £6.00 each and are of a very good quality for this money, they wash extremely well and keep their shape and colour. I will definitely being buying some more of these when I need to stock up on my vest tops and I would certainly recommend them to anyone.
