Having a little money left on an amazon voucher and with a string of birthdays coming up, I came upon this Chocolate Digestive Button Mirror which cost me £3.49 on amazon, and had in mind to give it to my sister. My sister is a bit of chocaholic and so I thought this would be perfect as a little nik nak to finish off her birthday present. There also seems to be other options for these mirrors including a cupcake version and a chocolate chip version, but this was the most apt for her, plus I thought it was the kind of mirror that would be quite discrete in her handbag if she needed to have a quick peek at herself etc.
When this mirror arrived, I didn't actually realise what a button mirror was. From the pictures I assumed this was a mirror than you flipped open with the chocolate digestive on the outside - not so. This kind of mirror has a mirror on one side and a picture and in this case a chocolate digestive picture on the other, so it isn't a flip mirror, which I was disappointed with, although I should have done my research better before purchasing. I much prefer the flip mirror as at least the glass is kept clean, whereas the mirror that isn't covered can get very dirty and grubby in a woman's handbag, especially someone with children as you carry all their stuff as well.
My biggest disappointment however was with the actual chocolate digestive picture- there was just something cheap looking about it, rather than something unique and one of a kind. I realise that it only costs £3.50 but I was still expecting better quality and in the end I decided not to give it to my sister as I just didn't think it looked good enough to give as a gift and looked like something cheap and tacky. My daughter now uses it in her little pretend handbag as it fits in perfect and she can role play with it. IN fact it is probably better designed for a child because of its quality than as an actual mirror that you would give someone to use.
All in all, I was disappointed with this product and wouldn't either purchase again or recommend it for anyone looking for a 'different' gift.
After my compact mirror that I usually carry in my bag broke, I went on eBay to buy another. This was kind of an impulse buy based on the quirky look of this mirror. This cost me £2.90 off eBay, I have seen these being sold on other websites for a much higher cost although I wouldn't call £2.90 for a pretty standard little mirror with a picture on particularly cheap. There were quite a few other designs available, I saw cupcake, chocolate chip cookie and bakewell tart designs.
This is called a button mirror which means that it has a mirror on one side and the picture on the other side, it isn't the type of mirror that you open up and has a mirror on either side.
The mirror itself is pretty good quality, it hasn't fell apart yet! The mirror seems to be attached well enough to the back whereas in some of the compact mirrors I have had, the mirror comes apart from the back which is really annoying and you can see that it's only been attached with a small drop of glue. Luckily I haven't had that problem with this mirror.
This mirror is fun and quirky, the chocolate digestive design is a photo which makes it quite realistic. You could definitely mistake this for the real thing from a little distance. The size of this is pretty small, about 3 inches across which make it handy and pocket-sized which is useful. I like the look of this mirror and I think it would be a great gift for someone who loves chocolate biscuits, this also goes for the other designs that are available.
Since buying one of these for myself, I have bought another to use as a gift. I gave this along with a nice mug and a few other hot drink related things to make a little tea/coffee/hot chocolate hamper, I think this fits in perfectly with it. This chocolate digestive mirror would also make a good stocking filler. Even though it's a novelty item, it's still very useful and handy so it's fun but still practical.
I would recommend this as a fun but useful mirror, I think it makes a nice little gift and there are other designs available for you to choose from.
It's always handy to have a small mirror in my handbag or coat pocket when I'm out and about, and I've never seen any reason why these mirrors can't be cute and quirky little fashion accessories in themselves, which is what let me to purchase this unusual chocolate digestive button mirror from a trader on ebay for the cost of £2.95 including shipping. It was a UK seller (Glint_London if you'd like to purchase your own), so it only took a couple of days for this to arrive, securely and safely packed in a padded envelope.
Essentially, think of a badge, 3 inches across - that essentially what you have here, except for where the pin part of the badge would be is a mirror instead. The pattern on the front is designed to look like the chocolate topping on a chocolate digestive biscuit, with the recognisable pattern of waves and lines, and it's a very good likeness, almost enough to make me want to pick it up and eat it!
The mirror itself is decent - no edges where you can catch yourself, and a good clear reflection. I've found that this doesn't steam up with my breath when I'm using it, which is also handy. It's a good size for slipping into a coat pocket or a handbag, and although it occasionally picks up the odd smear, these can easily be wiped off. I've had this a few months now, and it's taken a few bumps and even been dropped once or twice, but not sustained any damage barring a small, barely noticeable scratch in the chocolate pattern.
Overall, it's a fun and quirky design, and I rather like it. Of course, I have as many mirrors as I do handbags, and this isn't my favourite by a long shot, but it's a great silly quirky item, and at less than £3 is great value.
Round 'button' mirror.
Approximately 3 inches across.
One side has a mirror with silver coloured edging.
The other side has a realistic image of a chocolate biscuit which is sort of glossy.
Currently available on ebay for £2.50 with free postage - this is a UK seller so no long wait while it arrives from Hong Kong.
The image above may be slightly confusing to those who do not know as it is showing two mirrors and both sides. On one side you have a round mirror and on the back is a realistic image of a milk chocolate digestive biscuit. The chocolate image is smooth and glossy and very life-like.
These little mirrors are both lightweight and useful.
The novelty factor lies in them looking like a biscuit of course but the mirror is also functional and would fit into a pocket or bag very easily. It has no rough edges and is smooth and lightweight.
For £2.50 this is a great novelty gift for a chocolate lover - without the calories. It can be added to Birthday or Christmas gifts and is a novelty most people would love I am sure.
I bought the chocolate one but it does come as a chocolate chip cookie as well if that is what you would prefer, personally I prefer the chocolate digestive.
This makes a cute treat for yourself or a lovely surprise gift for anyone. This is the sort of item I usually get for my nieces at Easter as they get way too many eggs so I tend to get something that looks like chocolate - but isn't. I also gave one to my son's girlfriend and she did not realise it was a mirror to begin with and started using it as a coaster! It did work fine for that too but is better as a little mirror.
===Would I Recommend?===
Finding this mirror was a real thrill for me, as with Mother's Day coming up I thought this would make a nice quirky little gift for my Mum. She like myself likes the odd sort of find that makes a gift individual and different, and as she like myself loves things chocolate and likes to adorn herself with makeup items then this would be right up her street.
This little mirror compact comes in various different styles and you can choose from chocolate biscuits to a range of cupcakes through a whole range of fairies and angels and flags and pretty much any theme you can think of. I found this mirror on a website called kiki.co.uk. But there are other sites out there that do the same style of compact.
This one has the chocolate digestive front to it and this slides away to show the mirror section underneath it, which is encased in a stainless steel bottom and sides. It is 73cm across and fits nicely into a handbag, but do try not to mistake it for a rogue biscuit won't you I don't want any broken teeth.
As I have already said it is a fun item and looks the part, with Mothering Sunday coming up it will be a lovely item with a few bits of Mum's favorite makeup items thrown in for good measure and a nice new makeup bag as well this should be just the thing for her. I can get the makeup bag from the same site too with similar themes so this will work really well for me. I love this item as not only is it cheap and cheerful it is also a bit of fun and glamorous too. What more can a girl want.
Just don't mix it up with the biscuits and you can't go wrong.
Did I say Mother's day is on the way.? What nicer way of spending some of your hard earned cash can you think of than buying something really cool for your mother on her special day.
