“ Brand: River Island / Type: Dress „
Recently my friend held a big party at a function room for her birthday, the event was very formal and there was a sit down meal included I was completely baffled by what to wear as I'd never received such an invitation before. I was made aware that we would all be hitting the town post-event too and this stumped me even more: I would need a dress that was not only suitable for a formal dinner but which would also double up as a party dress. The party started at 5pm so I knew that we'd be in for a long night so decided I needed something comfortable too.
I looked online at all the usual suspects: FCUK, Topshop, BooHoo, Awear but to no avail it was only when I was dragged to my local River Island store by my sister who wanted to check out the sale that I found this gorgeous one shoulder pink ruffle dress and decided there and then that it would be a great outfit choice.
The material of the dress is 51% Polyester and 49% Viscous meaning that there is not a lot of 'give' or 'stretch' in the dress but it is not totally bodycon tight material making it appropriate for the formal dinner. The fact that it is one shouldered really appealed to me because this is a big trend right now and the ruffle detail stops the dress from being plain and mundane and in my opinion makes it look more expensive.
I selected my usual size 6 from the rail and tried it on in the fitting room I don't tend to wear dresses as I never find a style to fit me but this one hugged my figure in all the right places without being too tight or sticking to me which would prove to bode me well after dancing the night away. Given the pink vibrant colour scheme of the dress I imagined that finding a pair of shoes to match would be quite difficult but I found that not to be the case which further deepened my love for my new dress.
I was pleasantly surprised that after I washed my dress it kept its original colour and shape despite being a material I didn't have much experience with washing wise. I followed the washing instructions detailed on the label and my dress survived its first wash unscathed.
The vibrant colour of the dress ensured that I stood out on all of the photographs but didn't look out of place. It went especially well with my tan and was a complete statement dress, I even wore my hair up so as not to take attention away from the dress.
The one shoulder design on the dress got slightly irritating as the night progressed as it slipped down my shoulder a few times especially when I was dancing so I spent some of the night readjusting and cursing the one shouldered detail!
When I sat down in this dress and stood up again the number of creases were astronomical after a few hours I found that the back of my dress was completely creased but most of them do tend to drop out if you're stood up for a good while after being sat down.
Also, sweat marks and drink spillages are a potential recipe for disaster when donning this dress. Any water marks do not dry quickly at all on this dress so if you spill a drink you'll have to wear the evidence until the night is over!
At £45 I thought this dress was a bargain but given all the bad points that I only discovered once wearing the dress I will be careful which events to wear it to next time meaning I may not get my wear out of this one!
