Fairisle Rabbit Knitted Jumper
Advantages: Cute pattern, very wintry feel
Disadvantages: Snagging the loose strands
When the weather starts getting colder I usually reach for one of my snuggly warm hoodies, but more recently I've been buying more traditional knitted jumpers as I think they look a bit smarter and "grown up".
One that I've recently bought is this gorgeous Fairisle jumper from Debenhams. I first saw it a couple of months ago but didn't buy it as they didn't have my size in stock, I thought I would order it from their website instead only to find out they only had a teeny tiny size 6 available. Then about a month ago I was having a browse around the Red Herring concession and spotted the lovely blue colour nestling amongst the other clothes on the rail. I picked it up and noticed that it was a couple of sizes larger than I would usually wear, but it was reduced in the sales as well. I decided that I would try it on and if it didn't feel too big I would buy it. After trying it on, it felt about right considering I'd be wanting to layer up with vest tops and t-shirts when it starts getting really cold.
The jumper is 77% Acrylic, 12% Nylon and 11 Angora. It is a really nice blue colour, with the Fairisle pattern in co-ordinating white, pale blue, and taupe. The main part of the pattern is on the top half of the jumper which is also where the rabbit detail is with some other symbols like diamond shapes and zigzags. On the lower half of the jumper there is a small V shape repeated horizontally across it.
The ribbed cuffs and hem mean that the jumper feels cosy and snug for the winter, although the crew neck is a bit wider than you would find on some jumpers so unless you don't mind whatever you are wearing underneath being on show I find I'm limited to vest tops with spaghetti straps.
As this is one of my current favourites it has been washed quite a few times since I bought it, it can be machine washed at 40 but not tumble dried. Once it has come out of the washing machine I put it on one of the radiators to dry. It still looks great and hasn't lost it's shape at all. It can be ironed on a low heat, although I don't think it particularly needs it.
I would have given this 5 stars but there are strands of loose wool on the reverse of the jumper which I keep catching on things, especially lower down where the V patterns are. If you don't notice this can cause the jumper to bunch up where it has snagged. You can pull this back and it doesn't show too much but it is annoying. Also I think the sizing could be a bit more generous, I'm really pleased now that I didn't buy my usual size as I think it would have been a bit too small.
The RRP for this is £30 but I got mine in the sales for £24.
Summary: A jumper for Christmas day
