Advantages: Goodclassic range, very verymade and lasts.

Disadvantages: Gone to the chav's over the last few years..

Here I am going to tell you a little bit about the Fred Perry clothing brand, but firstly a would like to let you know how this major fashion brand originated and how I has become so successful today.

FRED PERRY HISTORY

This clothing brand has taken its name from the legendry tennis player, Frederick John Perry but most will know him as Fred Perry. This Cheshire born tennis player was the world's number one player for five years running and most importantly a three time over Wimbledon winner.

He was the first British man to win titles at Wimbledon, the French and US open and lastly the Australian singles open.

This is where the clothing brand first came into the equation, as Fred Perry was so successful he was approached in the late 1940's, by an Austrian footballer who was trying to make it in the fashion industry, he had designed and invented the legendry sweat band and wanted Fred Perry to wear it and put his name to it, this was done to promote the brand on behalf of the footballer and with Perry being a roaring success within the sporting industry, This was a gamble that paid off and made the brand as popular as it is today.

This sweat band then went on to the production of polo T-shirts, with three buttons down the front and a laurel motif logo in the breast of the T-shirt. This t-shirt was an instant success in the 1952 Wimbledon games.

This was originally produced in white and natural colours, until the late 1900's when the brand was picked up by the mods, skinheads and football casual scenes. Fred Perry then went on to produce many different colours and designs, making the brand more appealing to a wide range of people.

CLOTHING BRAND TO DATE

Since the late 1900's the Fred Perry brand has come on leaps and bounds, I remember buying my first Fred Perry T-shirt and then my grandad put me right off it as he wore it when he was younger, it was at this point I looked into the background of the Fred Perry brand as I thought my Grandad was pulling my chain.

When the brand adopted the different colours and got recognised by the football casuals and teenagers it became a high fashion brand, but as the chav's have now picked it up as there must have clothing, I feel that it less appealing to most as they will get branded as a chav.

This has now branched out and currently product, round neck and polo T-shirts, shoes, bags, belts, caps, jeans, tracksuits, hoodies and most other clothing items.

Fred Perry has two different clothing brands, the sport range and the classic range.

The sport range is the lower budget Fred Perry clothing and it most appealing to the chav and football casual as it is mainly consists of tracksuits, hoodies, t-shirts and sweatshirt jumpers.

The classic range is more advanced and this is reflective in the prices, you pay lot more as this classic range is made with better quality materials and they consist of fine knitted garments, shirts and better quality polo's, even though the polo's look the same as the sport range they are made with better materials and the only difference being the buttons.

Not only does Fred Perry cater for the sports industry, but they also cater for children, women and men.

MY OPINION

You can expect to pay anywhere between 28.00 and 55.00 for a traditional Fred Perry polo shirt, the price varies on where you buy it and if you go for a sport or classic version.

The laurel motif logo is very eye catching and is basically a patch that is stitched onto the clothing, I feel this is much better than an iron on logo as it will never wear away.

In my experience if you pay out the full 55.00 like I did for my classic polo T-shirt, then it will last. I have washed it so many times and it is still in perfect condition without any bobbling, shrinking or even stretching, the only thing is that it has faded slightly, but what can I expect as it is now over five years old.

This was a brand I would wear religiously and I would even by my husband, but over the past four years I feel that it has gone cheap and tacky as the chav's have in my opinion killed it off.

I will still buy a few knitted ladies jumpers, as some of the classic range is still very nice indeed, but I don't flaunt the fact the is it a Fred Perry, I would never buy an item with the brand logo splashed across the whole garment.

I am sure Fred Perry will be around for years to come, but I will leave it to the youngsters and chav's to support the brand.

Summary: Long lasting clothing, that will be around for many years to come.
