~*~ Entry for the dooyoo relay race - Team GP ~*~
Asda was my first stop when I was looking to purchase some holiday clothes, they are well known for being affordable but still having a nice quality and style, perfect for clothes that wouldn't be worn often. One thing that caught my eye was this G21 tropical animal print dress, it's not my normal style but I bought it anyway.
~ The dress ~
The design on the dress is what caught my eye at first, with a turquoise background and a black leopard type print all over the dress it is certainly a lot different to most dresses. Team that with splashes of yellow and red through the leopard print and big bold red, purple, yellow and green flowers found scattered around the dress, it's definitely not something you would wear to blend into the crowd. Normally I'm into neutral coloured dresses, but as it was for on holiday I decided it was time to stand out!
I'm not the skinniest of people, not skinny at all in fact so it is usually hard finding a dress that doesn't show all of my lumps and bumps, but this dress is quite nice. The top half of the dress is nice and fitted, with a round neck that doesn't expose anything that shouldn't be exposed! There are decorative buttons going down the front of the top which add a nice touch and break the design up a little. The top of the back is ruched so that it can stretch if needed, I found mine stretched a little. The dress starts to flow freely just below the waist so it does hide some of my mummy tummy and does make it look quite flattering. The dress reaches my knees, this makes it perfect to wear with or without leggings, I actually wore it both ways and the black in the animal print does make black leggings look alright with it.
I bought the dress without trying it on and realised once I was home that the back of the dress wasn't great for me. As I am so short (5ft), the back of the dress did end up a little lower than I would have liked as it was showing my bra strap. I got my mum to adjust the straps and made them about an inch and a half shorter so that it didn't show my bra. This adjustment was perfect and made the dress look a lot better when it was on. I would imagine taller people wouldn't have this problem as the straps would be fine for them.
I teamed the dress with a pair of wedges and it worked well, I felt confident wearing it with these. I think that black ankle boots would have looked nice with the dress also, giving it an almost rock chick type style to it. It can worn as a day dress or evening dress, I personally wore mine during the evening. The amount of different colours in the dress mean it's easy to accessorise the dress with many different colours.
~ Availability and care ~
The dress is available to buy from Asda for £10. It comes in sizes 6 to 20 so available in sizes for most people which is nice, better than some shops that only stock sizes 6 to 14!
The dress can be machine washed, I wash it on a 40 wash and it comes out perfect. It can then be tumble dried, though I don't know how well this comes out as I always leave it to hang dry. I iron my dress with a cool iron then it looks as good as new. As the dress was kept in my suitcase for a while it wasn't as creased as I expected and I could wear it without having to iron it, bonus!
~ Overall ~
I'd definitely recommend this dress if you want something that is a bit different, the design isn't to everyones tastes but I love it as it is so versatile! The problem with the back being too low was a little disappointing but was fine once the straps had been adjusted. I think it is excellent value for money at only £10.
