Normally expensive - but watch out for absolute bargains! (Gap)

Advantages: Can have great sale bargains, merchandise is good quality, and stock is "classic" preppy american

Disadvantages: Prices are high compared to other high street brands, and not that short of designer labels

GAP does have a fantastic line in the "preppy" American look, with khakis galore. Their advertising conveys a great vibrant image, and due to high repetition, you can be almost guaranteed to be humming the most recent tune.

I agree with LAMoore that their prices are expensive. Although the quality is good, it doesn't justify a price which is just a little bit short of that charged by designer labels such as Polo Ralph Lauren, or Gant. I'd rather spend that little bit extra and get a decent label than just Gap.

That said, they can have some fantastic bargains - I recently picked up some shorts for £5.99 instead of £30 - marked down for some reason or another. If prices were like that everyday, then I'd be a bigger Gap fan - however at normal levels - no way!

The service is particularly American - the meeter-greeter on the door, ever attentive shop staff, each particularly keen to give you their name (only so they get sales credit!). It's fine at first, but spend more than 15 minutes in there and you've had enough!
